Where to buy the Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle
Come Thursday, thousands of Americans will battle each other in retail stores around the country to get their hands on the new 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle. The package will include the game, a backwards-compatible 80GB system and a rumbling DualShock 3 controller.
Each retailer will have its own policies regarding what to buy with the system, but Wal-Mart clearly has the competition beat with its generous bonus $100 gift card -- an incentive that will also work with this lucrative bundle. Getting a free $100 for buying the Metal Gear bundle? How generous.
If you can't make a Wal-Mart, you may want to try any of these other options:

- amazon.com is already sold out
- Best Buy is holding multiple midnight launches this Wednesday night.
- Circuit City has pre-orders available, but you must buy an extra Blu-ray remote (total: $525).
- EB Games/Gamestop online pre-orders are sold out -- check midnight launches.

fersis @ Jun 9th 2008 11:04AM

I think that MGS4 will be a system seller. and maybe maybeee it can make one million copies on day one or very close to that figure
True_Darknight @ Jun 9th 2008 11:15AM

Swamp Donkey @ Jun 9th 2008 11:29AM
Anyone know if these have 65nm chips or not?
Desi_D @ Jun 9th 2008 11:46AM
For those of us that just need the game:
http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?p=11642449#post11642449
Comes out to $52.24 and free shipping. That's $10+ cheaper than local stores since you'll have to pay tax at local stores.
BlackFreefall @ Jun 9th 2008 11:49AM
If you are in NYC, you can buy the bundle at Virgin Megastore during the signing of Metal Gear Solid 4 with Kojima.
_sean_ @ Jun 9th 2008 11:49AM
Best buy might price match the $100 gift card.
ajster @ Aug 21st 2008 9:07PM
Is this true?....I am definitely campin @ Best Buy for Wednesday release!
cantbeatmegaman @ Jun 9th 2008 11:53AM
I tried to get it from Amazon but they were sold in a minute, literally.
pavs @ Jun 9th 2008 3:53PM
This is just BS. I don't remember anyone forcing people to buy extra shit with the 360 Halo bundle.
Head-set, Blu-ray remote? WTF
How hard is it to just sell the f@^king thing without forcing people to pay for more stuff. Sure, maybe right now the system will sell out, but in the long term, this will keep casual gamers from buying because the add-ons increase the price tag on an already really expensive system.
I just cant help but feel some bias from the retailers against Playstation 3. This is the first chance in two years when the system has a real chance of catching up to the competition and they're trying to mess it up.
Extra $60 wont stop a long term fanboy from buying the bundle, but I'm sure some 14 year old kid somewhere is not going to get it because his mom drives a Jeep and would rather spent that 60 on filling up her tank, buying the kid a cheap wii or a 360.
I'm just happy I got my 60GB last year.
JaseH @ Jun 9th 2008 7:35PM
Oh shut up it's only one retailer.
Snogrog @ Jun 9th 2008 12:03PM
I work at Best Buy and they will definitely price match as long as your local wal-mart has stock.
Alex @ Jun 9th 2008 12:37PM
Is the wal-mart deal for the MGS bundle in print somewhere? Do you need proof to give to Best Buy?
John S @ Jun 9th 2008 12:30PM
Anybody find out what the surprise is that Ryan Payton was talking about??
"Believe it or not, I've been so busy working on a special surprise for MGS4 buyers (that not even those who have leaked copies of the game can spoil! Haha!), that I haven't had time to catch up on most of the pre-launch excitement."
I hope it's not for people that only buy their copy at gamestop.
kentuckyfried @ Jun 9th 2008 5:24PM
I wonder about that one too...hope it's great!
DrCooltC @ Jun 9th 2008 1:26PM
you should check how many bundles your gamestop will before you show up and get disappointed....mine had only 4.
And for the circuit city bundle, if you dont want the remote you can return it to the store after you buy it online after is ships. And shipping is free.
Joee @ Jun 9th 2008 1:32PM
I called walmart and the lady says they have the MGS bundles instock but she thinks they are 40gb bundles. But she did say that they are white boxes, contrasting the usual black boxes they get in. Does this mean it is indeed an 80gb and she is confused?
Has anyone found the actual bundle on the wal-mart web page? I cant seem to find it with their search.
ModeMan101 @ Jun 9th 2008 2:09PM
The only MGS4 bundle is with an 80GB unit, in a white box.
Optimus @ Jun 9th 2008 1:47PM
I'm pretty sure that if you get the bundle at CC you get a FREE BluRay remote.
At least that's what our add said (I work there.)
Al @ Jun 9th 2008 1:47PM
FYE is taking in store pre-orders for the 80gb for $50
ModeMan101 @ Jun 9th 2008 2:12PM
I can't see how they would price match if there's no actual discount being given at Walmart - just a bonus gift card. Or do you mean that Best Buy would give out a gift card to match?
SetoNaikai @ Jun 9th 2008 2:16PM
What about Target!!!
kentuckyfried @ Jun 9th 2008 5:22PM
Target never gets their shit early...always a few days later...they don't do special promos like this even though they should.
chris.westermann @ Jun 9th 2008 2:35PM
Awesome deal, you buy the MGS4 bundle and then you can buy 15 pairs of jeans with the gift card.
Mattjsrules @ Jun 9th 2008 4:04PM
It will also be avliable at http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665371946
on June 12th. But I don't know what time.
kentuckyfried @ Jun 9th 2008 5:19PM
Sweet...I better bookmark this and hope they don't sell out, my friend wants me to grab one for him using some of my unused Sony Card points.
Dembonz @ Jun 9th 2008 6:07PM
Notice how that Wal-Mart information sheet says they still have "little residue" of the rare 60GB models in stores. Man, would I love to get my hands on one of those...
Davish @ Jun 10th 2008 1:56AM
The list of Gamestops opening at midnight is incomplete...the one nearest my house isn't on the list but it'll be opening at midnight. I need to check how many they're getting but I'll be showing up right when they close at 9 p.m. because I'm not taking any chances.
corbin @ Jun 10th 2008 6:22PM
Just so you know this may be YMMV about the walmart gift card. People that have been able to buy them early at walmart are reporting that the cashier is not prompted to give a gift card like they are for the 40gb, and that in some cases only by complaining were they able to convince someone to give it to them.
Alex @ Jun 11th 2008 12:01PM
The circuit city bundle now requires you to buy an extra DualShock 3 controller, instead of the remote. FYI
Florida PS3 @ Jun 12th 2008 10:40PM
This is a great thread that helped me sort out the release of PS3 Metal Gears. I've never owned a game box before. I'm a PC gamer who prefers FPS like COD, MOH, BF2, FarCry, Duke Nukem, Doom...how far back should I go? (-;
Just bought a Sony 52" Bravia 1080 with 120mhz refresh rate. Then went to buy the Sony Theater sound system when I realized that buying *any* DVD player that wasn't a BlueRay would have had me hating my TV forever. When you've tasted 1080, even for a few days watching shark attacks and such...well you ain't goin' back to lo res TV.
So after looking at the package theater systems I realized that I'll never own another basic DVD player again...and those are the only ones bundled with the theater systems now. I hated the idea of going back to components and loads of wires but the BlueRay was essential now. And expensive...until I figured out I can buy a BluRay and get my gaming for free with PS3.
Learned about the PS3 80GB June 12 release about three weeks ago. It was a long three weeks. I mean I remember people camping out at malls to get Tickle me Elmo for god's sakes. I don't have the patience for that crap now.
Best Buy was the only store I saw to put PS3 80 in their circular here on FL west coast. Called 'em up and they told me to get to the store on Thurs AM about half hour before opening. BB employees were supposed to pass out tix for a guaranteed product to those loyal souls who showed up early.
Wed nite I found this thread and learned about the Walmart deal with the $100 gift card. Walmart opens an hour before BB so I figured I'd head their first. Called instead - according to the electronics counter rep 1. they will NOT have PS3 80GB in stock for a few weeks. 2. the $100 gift card will NOT be for this system when they do get them. So either the WM employee is wrong or the other thread on this site that sez the gift card applies to ALL BluRay systems is wrong. Either way, the local Wally's didn't have 'em.
Got to BB about 10:10AM. So much for the advance guaranteed tix! Saw somebody carrying a PS3 Gears box out as I walked in. Oh crap. Then, like a mirage in the desert there was a table in front of me with 4 PS3's, BluRay remotes, extra controllers, etc. Noooo problem.
And they had 10 more systems under the table. They said they got 17 total. But only 2 people were more anxious than me to get one.
I have read in a few places that getting a crappy HDMI cable will degrade the pic. (no HDMI, even a crappy one, is included) I've also read that the "you absolutely need a Mon$ter HDMI" approach is total crap. Indeed, the BB rep had a pile of $99 cables there and swore I needed one. I settled on a $70 cable that was in the back of the store.
Also bought the 2 year full warranty for $79 since I live in the lightning capital of the US. Then I went to Sam's Club and got a great 2m HDMI for $20 and it works _perfectly_.
Came home. Set it up. It is an astounding machine with awesome features.
I'm ready to do some shooting but thought I'd say thanks to this thread for the head's up on things.

I am really surprised no one has said go to Walmart and get one. I have been in two walmarts over the past two days that had 4 of them. Most people don't expect them to have the new release material on street dates but you will be real surprised to know that they have it. I get almost all my new games that have midnight releases at Wally world. You do have to be patient with the associates because most of them don't have a clue about video games or street releases. The more you go the better they get to know you and realize that people will be coming in at midnight to get the latest games.
aaron @ Jun 26th 2008 2:47PM
so... it was all but a week, no real hype or anything?.. i just rememberd that it was coming out.. been sorta watching walmart shelves and never saw it, now everyone is sold out.. will there be more shipments?...
