MGS4 is the fastest selling PS3 exclusive in the UK

With the PS2 having been out for three years before MGS2's release (whereas the PS3 has been out for only half that), we're very impressed with MGS4's figures so far. Long may it continue.

So . . . .
What are these figures?
Henry E. @ Jun 16th 2008 10:12PM
Don't forget, the game came out on a thursday as oppose to a tuesday
marauder800 @ Jun 17th 2008 9:23AM
Games usually release on Friday in the UK.
Kodros @ Jun 16th 2008 10:27PM
So, according to VGChartz, it sold 1.3 million worldwide on the first day.

I forget, are we trusting VGChartz this week or not?

cooly. isnt that what Konami said it needed to do in order to stay exclusive? +1 for PS3.
ebbenson3 @ Jun 16th 2008 10:32PM
isn't this because it is a totally awesome game?
Kiltman67 @ Jun 16th 2008 10:35PM
Fastest selling game despite woeful promotion. Can't speak about the rest of the country, but I know in Edinburgh all the big stores that sell games had very small posters in their windows and in the week since it was released I've only seen one TV commercial.
Noshino @ Jun 16th 2008 10:48PM
well, I live in S. Florida, and I have also only seen one TV commercial
And somewhat advertisement on video game shops
naxe @ Jun 16th 2008 11:10PM
noshino you from s.florida??
iam from hialeah. i know you probably could care less
but its cool to know there are real ppl behind those
comments.
i never had the pleasure of seeing any metal gear commercials on t.v. Only posters at game stop and play n trade.
its funny that my obsession for all things metal gear stem from a Pizza Hut sampler that had the beginning of metal gear solid in it. It sure has been a long time.
Noshino @ Jun 17th 2008 5:28AM
Holy crap, so many people from s florida, I used to live in Cooper City but moved to Davie a few months ago...
Actually, my first encounter with the series was when the 2 copies of RE Code Veronica were being used at the arcade, so to kill some time I picked MGS...it was just something rare back then, the mechanics of the game were what really caught my attention...
For the people that can't find the game, try looking at stores other than the regular ones, whenever I can't find certain games, I go to Sears....friend sent me an early copy, so I really didnt have to go through all the hassle...
theodoros @ Jun 17th 2008 9:10AM
I have seen commercials, but mainly on the G4 channel.
Lars @ Jun 17th 2008 2:49PM
I've never seen a single advert. The only reason I knew it was coming was because I listen to gaming webcasts. Just think how it would have sold if they would have pumped the kind of advertising cash into it that Halo 3 got...
GTC0 @ Jun 16th 2008 10:54PM
MGS2 came out one year and one month after the PS2 came out (Oct. 2000 to Nov 2001), not three years. MGS3 came out a little more than four years after the PS2 came out.
babash @ Jun 16th 2008 11:35PM
thanks there, i knew something was odd about that statement
LSDariuss @ Jun 17th 2008 5:26AM
I also saw only one advertisement, but is was in a movie theater, it was freakin' awesome and with the movie guy voice and shit...
The Game is flawless and is the reason the PS3 exist, Exploits audio, graphics and high definition to the limit, if anyone wants to se his/her Home theater & HDTV at full throttle MGS4 is a no brainer...+ the ps3 is the most affordable blu-ray player available.
Cameron @ Jun 16th 2008 11:34PM
MGS2 came out Nov 2001, ps2 came out oct 2000, get your facts straight. I don't judge a game by its sales figures, look at Beyond Good and Evil, look at ICO, get sales numbers out of your ass because it's so f'ing annoying.

Efeez1986 @ Jun 17th 2008 1:35AM
MGS 4 kills GTA 4, Gears of War and every other game that's come out this console generation. MGS 4 really is the best game ever made if you think about it.

Ugh. I want to play through it again.. I'm already ready to. But I promised my friends I'd only play when they were over, so they could see the story too.
It's been taking a while, but we're finally starting Act 5 tomorrow.
Amazing game!

Ive only seen two adverts on terrestrial UK TV. Both on Channel 4. One during Big Brother's Little Brother and one during a repeat of Derren Brown's live show. It was awesome to turn off the game then see an advert for it two minutes later; asif it was saying 'Come back and play moar'
RagingStormX @ Jun 17th 2008 11:37AM
Well I just move back to the Bahamas, but I was living in West Palm Beach. FL for a few years...does that count? lol. Hopefully they are will tell how much copies of the game has been sold from its launch lastweek Thursday, to Thursday of this week.
tom @ Jun 17th 2008 11:40AM
I love how this website only tells us what they want us to believe. The fact of the matter is that MGS4 did not move hardware very much in the UK. Read the followup to the original article. As a owner of all 3 systems, I was really looking forward to the game and it was worth the hype. However, as mentioned from other posts and articles, this game does not have the commercial viability that other AAA titles have. For example, I tried to get some of my more casual gamer friends to buy this game. After watching me play, they said it was way too boring and way too many cutscenes. They said is this suppose to be a video game movie with some interaction! This game in terms of sales numbers will pale in comparison to Halo 3, COD4 or GTAIV.
Chart-Track: MGS4 had "minimal" impact on UK PS3 sales
Despite going straight in at number one in the software charts and being the biggest PlayStation 3-exclusive release so far, Metal Gear Solid 4 has failed to prove a major driver of hardware in the UK, with Chart-Track revealing a "minimal" spike of seven percent over its opening weekend.
The UK sales monitor revealed last night that Konami's hugely anticipated blockbuster, which released worldwide last Thursday (June 12), has become the second fastest-selling PS3 title in the UK after Grand Theft Auto IV, and 14,000 short of the opening weekend figure recorded by Metal Gear Solid 2 on PS2 in 2002.
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Chart-Track director Dorian Bloch played down the game's impact on hardware, revealing: "There's not a lot to say about it – it had minimal impact really. Units were up by seven percent."
Jeremy @ Jun 17th 2008 12:38PM
Not sure if this has been said or not, but..... PS2 was released in November of 2000. MGS2 was released in Fall of 2001.... Simple math says they launch of MGS2, was only a year behind the launch of the PS2, not three.
