Only On: new PS3 television advertisement

Reader Marc M. spotted this ad on television while watching Saturday Night Live. This ad features montages of LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Gran Turismo 5: Prologue. No pre-rendered footage here! All three of these beautiful games were showcased using realtime PS3 graphics ... and all are exclusively available on Sony's console. This ad's approach seems to be "let the games do the talking," but we do wish it were a bit more exciting. Y'know, like this one.

I saw this to. I think it pretty exciting, but they could use the new resistance 2 gameplay videos from gametrailers.com. I like the fact that they tried to make the sackboys seem like epic warriors.

I think it's a great commercial. The black blob of the old one was neat, but distracted from the actual games they were trying to show. This one is all games, and I think that's EXACTLY what they need to show: look, we have awesome games. Period.

Right now they aren't trying to convince parents to purchase the PS3 for their kids, they convincing people on the fence that there ARE, like Nate said, great games offered Only on the PS3.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I enjoyed the weird white-room commercials of year-one. I think the rubiks cube was my favorite. Maybe it didn't communicate the value of PS3 most effectively, but it entertained the hell-out-of me.
But in contrast, I do like the idea of just showing the games. I think that's what's really hard about game-ads, games are interactive and it's near impossible to simulate interaction with commercials. Which is why I think every game should attempt a demo. There are a few games even after commercials, articles, and gameplay videos, it wasn't till the demo that I actually gave a damn.
But do you think it's safe to advertise LittleBigPlanet when it's not out yet? And why not show Ratchet and Uncharted? Those are great exclusives I've turned back to when GTA4 didn't keep my attention. Oh...and Warhawk!
Just for kicks, anyone have a favorite game commercial? I think mine is for Jet Moto 2 when that guy is driving real slow and all the other racers are passing him and doing flips off canyon walls. He eventually turns and looks at the screen, hops off the bike, then yells at the player which turns out to be an old lady.

I am in the UK and we never got those white room add's. Just some stange nuts add's which would make you get Wii or XBox360.
I just would love to get a copy of the White Room add's in HD.

I agree, LBP needs to be marketed closer to October, not June, July or even August. PSN titles like PJ:M or Wipeout would make great replacements, or like Zombie said, R&C as well, but that game has been out for a while. The games need to be "fresh" IMO.

The cutscenes in MGS4 are realtime? Because some of that footage was from a point where you have no camera control. Your character isn't even there.

Bad voicing but the idea to showcase the pick of PS3's exclusive titles is great. Imo,the games mentioned before like Warhawk, Uncharted etc should be there too though,and maybe throw in some quick shots of big-hitting PSN games for good measure.

But I really think that it is a cool ad. I love the build and I love the underlying message. I can almost see this as the daily mantra in the SCEA corporate boardroom.

I think this is one of the better commercials made, its hilarious.... a great approach. It makes PS3 players look like Spartans... and any other console player is a Persian...

actually the two ads are the result of two different ad agencies. the "saliva" ad was made by OMD, but Sony decided that they weren't doing a good job of selling the ps3 (cuz you know, it's not Sony's fault) so they went to another ad agency down the street.
