PS3 firmware 2.36 now live

As promised, PS3 firmware 2.36 is live. This is a precursor to the very desirable firmware 2.40, which will include in-game XMB. Firmware 2.36, on the other hand, will only improve "system stability when playing select PlayStation format software titles." That's better than nothing, right?

In order to access the PSN, this firmware update is required. For everyone else, you can just wait for the big 2.40 update.

yeah i was playing rock band and it kept lagging then i rstarted my ps3 and boom its at 12 percent now

i hope this fixes the random kicking out of cod 4 thing cuz it really pisses me off

It looks like the sped up the connection speed to remote play. Maybe it's just me but it seems much faster over a local network or the internet.

I looked at past firmware release dates, and they all seem to be around the middle of each month. If the pattern continues, I wonder if we'll see 2.40 in July...?

I was hoping the iPod in MGS4 would allow you to access songs from the HDD so I wouldn't have to wait for this stupid freaking update, but you can't have it all.

The release of 2.40 has nothing to do with E3, and everything to do with Sony's internal QA process. 2.36 is a patch for a bug or security exploit. If they find another bug before 2.40 is ready then there will be a 2.37. The point is that they do not delay bug fixes just to combine them with the new features. That's probably one of the reasons the PS3 has still not been hacked.

The next set of new features will be 2.50. If there is a bug found before that is ready there will be a 2.4x. Come on people, the numbering system is not difficult to understand.

actually, yes E3 does have to do with the release of 2.40, and if you've been paying attention you'd know that the next round of new features IS in 2.40 and not 2.5 so obviously the number system is too complicated for you to understand

Im not sure if you've got mixed up but new content is coming in 2.40 not 2.50, in game xmb for example.
However you are right about them patching bugs and holes up as soon as they find them, I also believe this is why the PS3 hasent been succesfully hacked yet, so there very well could be a 2.37, 2.38 or 2.39 before we see 2.40 despite what the sonys reps have said, its all down to if theres a flaw in the software.

I think firmware update 2.4 is more than likely to hit wednesday, july 16th. Like sum1 previously stated these updates do usually come around the middle of the month, and most always on wednesdays. It should be right aroung E3 so SONY has something good to show in order to boost the summer sales for PS3. I can't wait for this long awaited feature to finally come. F*** crapbox 3fixme

Me too.
When they asked us to list the features we wanted, that was a big one for me for 2 reasons:
1. shut off after certain time time for when we fall asleep
2. a recharge shut off so we can leave our controllers to charge and it can shut off when complete
The 360 already has this feature and i doubt its a big deal to accomplish this compared to some of the other features Sony has given us.
