Any word yet on how much it's sold in the States? Ryan Payton made the comment that it needed to sell 1 million on day one to break even. There were only 20 people in line to get MGS4 at the midnight launch at the Gamestop that I went to. I hope that it caught on much better everywhere else. Then again, maybe Columbus, Ohio isn't a hotspot for gaming...

The entire Japanese language is based on calligraphy. This is a great tool for them to use to help people improve their handwriting. Unlike english one false line can change the entire meaning of what you're trying to say.

wow lol. 9/10 of those games are extremely lame!!! mgs4 seems to be the only decent one up there. either japan has a whole lot of aweful games making mgs4 the best by far or they are just weird! how could dragon ball Z be the seventh most played game?

The Japanese like different kinds of games and the vodeo game installer base is demographically more widespread which means that Japan has more casual gamers buying games. Calligraphy for example is extremely popular with older people who have been buying the DS and Wii like crazy.
A game that you might find lame can be somebody else's favorite. On the other hand, I don't think GTA4 is going to sell as well in Japan as it did over here. Hardcore gamers will pick it up but the large crowd of "casual" gamers (housewives, little kids, retirees, mid aged people) may not like it enough to shell out ¥7,000.

Its 2:1 - its selling 2x more than the entire rest of the chart combined. numbers 2 through 9.. Thats what the article is saying. Nothing to do with what's in 2nd place.

OK...I don't understand the hype. I have to admit, it's an OK game...but I have to also admit...it's a stretch even calling it a game. An "interactive movie" would be more accurate. I'm only probably about 1/2 way through...but I'm already frustrated by the cut scenes. I bet this game only probably have about 4 hours of actual game play by the end...the rest is sitting and watching movies. It's fun..but no way near deserves the hype.
I hope this isn't the future of "gaming".

You're wrong. The gameplay reinforces the story, and the story gives the gameplay purpose. If you can't appreciate that, go back to your FPS's.

Not an MGS fan, you should probably just sell it instead of finish it. Us fans play it for the story which is fascinating if you have played the other ones.
Personally I still stand by my 11/10 rating, after beating it today. My buddy said he cried twice during the ending..it nearly got me too.

One of the major goals in MGS4 was to wrap up the story of the series. I haven't played the game yet :(, so I can't really say much about the cut scenes, but from what I have read and seen from gameplay footage, if you have played the earlier MGS games you should truly appreciate the cut scenes.

I usually don't care what people opinions are of games, but saying there is only 4 hours of gameplay is stupid as F*CK. Please, for God's sakes, don't say stupid shit like that if you want to be treated seriously.
MGS4 is better than any game on the 360. 360 is a good console, and has a lot of great games though. But MGS4's story is just so good. MGO is fun too. Its just DIFFERENT.
MGS4 is something new, other than COD4, or Halo 3. FPS's are getting old, and xbox has a lot of FPS's.
Btw, those cutscenes are epic. This whole game is epic. Hideo Kojima = 1337est game dev. of all time.
