Call of Duty: World at War trailer debut
Please don't mind the Games for Windows and Xbox 360 logo at the end of this video. Rest assured, Call of Duty: World at War will be making its way to the PS3. For one rea$on or another, the debut trailer for World at War was featured exclusively on the Xbox Live Marketplace. It looks like Treyarch is using a similar (if not the same) engine used by Infinity Ward for Call of Duty 4. However, will Treyarch be able to match the success of one of the best games of last year?

Looks EXACTLY like COD4 except set in WWII. I wonder how this game will be compared to SOCOM and Resistance 2....i.e. will more people be playing this game or the Sony exclusives. When is release??
jay-G @ Jun 21st 2008 3:41PM
i cant wait
Ty @ Jun 21st 2008 3:42PM
Last time I heard about this game, people were touting "aliens"... looks like some gruesome theatre of WW2 to me.
blake @ Jun 22nd 2008 11:47AM
@ Ty
No one who actually read the articles that were out about the game said there were actual aliens.... (some people did say that in the forum but its because they didn't RTFA......or they did and failed to see the nuance in the aplication of the word. Alien force i believe is what was mentioned.... which was then clarified; to wit - (from maximumfear )
"They are described as seemingly alien because of the fact that during WWII the Japanese totally surprised and shocked the US forces with their tactics and tenacity."
Ok then -

hmmm i remember a certain game called call of duty 3...
SUCKED im guessing it will do the same.
TinyTim121 @ Jun 21st 2008 3:52PM
I know there are loads of World War 2 games out, but the last one i played was Medal of Honour: Frontline.
So seeing as i've had a (long) break from a proper WW2 game, maybe COD:WAW will be pretty good for me.
But i do understand why many people don't want the series back at WW2
Daalyman @ Jun 21st 2008 3:55PM
Oh my goodness this looks very interesting.
Tho i think that scene at the beginning has been done in
a movie before? can not remember which one.
evilfoxhound @ Jun 22nd 2008 12:40AM
After playing MGS4, all other games look like shit. It's spoiled me :(
The trailer just looks so generic that It looks like a last gen title.
lee @ Jun 21st 2008 4:03PM
haha 'rea$on'
MexicanTerrorist @ Jun 21st 2008 4:02PM
This game fails for being WW2 again.
And for not putting PS3 in the trailer.
EPIC.
FAIL.
Andrew @ Jun 21st 2008 4:23PM
I hate 2 go back 2 ww2 games ugh i hope it be good. But i will be more interested in socom:confratation
Nate the Prophet @ Jun 21st 2008 4:37PM
I disagree. The graphics and gameplay look much worse than COD4 to me. This game will blow--and not in a good way.
Popfrogs @ Jun 21st 2008 4:37PM
Treyarch can't do anything but WW2 shooters, and at this point I think it's safe to say we're tired of them. COD5 should be an evolution of COD4.
Andrew @ Jun 21st 2008 4:55PM
^^ Nate and popfrog u are right........
MCX @ Jun 21st 2008 7:06PM
So are they saving the #5 for the next Infinity Ward title?
Daalyman @ Jun 21st 2008 7:32PM
This new one would be number 5.
The next one would be number6.
nick @ Jun 21st 2008 5:19PM
from that vid it looks like its set in japan. that sucks. every other game ive played that was set in japan during ww2 was aweful and i didnt like the mood of the game. i thought the europe setting was awesome and they could really build more on COD 2 cuz that was a great game. COD 3 wasnt.
Chris @ Jun 21st 2008 5:18PM
Maybe those were the 360 and PC graphics, so the PS3 version will look much better! (Joke!)
TJ198917 @ Jun 21st 2008 5:27PM
It doesn't look like the same engine to me. It doesn't look good anyway. It's gonna flop. People are gonna be more on socom anyway so who cares.
wocyob @ Jun 21st 2008 5:36PM
with COD4 they took like 10 steps up...now there taking 20 steps back....lame
frankym @ Jun 21st 2008 5:43PM
I think Infinity Ward will make a COD5, but it won't be out until fall of 09.
Notice that this is NOT a spinoff of COD4.
I was also reading on a Spanish gaming site that Activision will release COD games on a yearly basis a la Madden.
mavbsbll21 @ Jun 22nd 2008 12:52AM
Give me that link...por vavor :)
eclipse27 @ Jun 21st 2008 6:06PM
Hey Andrew Yoon,
Not only do I not mind that the COD:WAW trailer and logos were XBox 360, but I really hope that the powers that be at Microsoft do the usual and buy it exclusively for the 360. I don't about anyone else but after looking at the trailer, Microsoft can have this garbage all to themselves.
It will move units solely on hype (at least 2 million on both consoles, perhaps)
But, 10 million total like COD4 did (and still going), forget about it. It will not have no where near the impact of COD4
Look, IW set the bar WAAAAY too high, and this won't cut it. Bottom Line!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Daalyman @ Jun 21st 2008 7:30PM
I don't see this as a bad thing IW started the Modern theme
and that's theirs alone, Treyarch has still more to tell in the
ww2 era of the game, so i for one I'm glad they are doing
this.
Josh @ Jun 21st 2008 6:29PM
yeah cant say I'm looking forward to this. I loved COD4 and really thought they would progress on that for the next one, I'm really sick of WW2 shooters, its been done way too much. Ok, Nazis, I get it. My only last glimmer of hope is that this isn't titled Call of duty 5: world at war, so maybe COD5 will be another modern warefare game and is in the works.
John @ Jun 21st 2008 6:40PM
Just think if they used all this coding on a 'peace' game. Oh, my bad. I keep forgetting how dumb humans are. Let's all believe the lies and practice war training, enabling ourselves to get dumber and dumber
Kodros @ Jun 21st 2008 7:55PM
"I keep forgetting how dumb humans are."
Your post isn't helping...
evilfoxhound @ Jun 21st 2008 7:48PM
After playing MGS4, this trailer looked like a last gen game. The bar has been raised.
Kodros @ Jun 21st 2008 7:56PM
How about we don't care where the bar is at and just hope for an exciting game.
Also, please point out the game from last gen that looks like this.
TJ198917 @ Jun 21st 2008 7:51PM
IW wont be making Call of Duty 5. Treyarch is!!! They already said this was COD5. The games gonna blow nuts.
OAKside @ Jun 21st 2008 8:09PM
No Infinity Ward, no good. At least that's what my brain tells me the odds are...
SSG @ Jun 21st 2008 8:45PM
I was playing MGS4 today and had to laugh because "Big Mama" reflected on how FPS games were training young people for war, and during the cutscene it flashbacked to some game which I believe as COD4. Was that the correct game? BTW, as long as I can shoot through trees, I am definitely picking this up.
killah1987 @ Jun 21st 2008 9:31PM
I think it was killzone 2
Andrew Yoon @ Jun 22nd 2008 11:49AM
No, that wasn't the correct game. It flashed back to MGS4's debut trailer, where it started off as a FPS game.
Mo @ Jun 22nd 2008 2:52PM
I thought it was halo lol
GridloQ @ Jun 21st 2008 9:22PM
I'll take WW2 over modern combat any day.
KingOfGods @ Jun 21st 2008 9:36PM
I'm interested because it will be the first COD with online co-op
JAH75157 @ Jun 22nd 2008 12:06AM
ZORBOT SAYS YAY!
tt76 @ Jun 22nd 2008 2:47AM
I can see it now.......
Host Ended Game
And........
Connection Interupted
Might as well stick with PS3 exclusive games if we want a good host sysetm
Nonhippyhippy @ Jun 22nd 2008 7:35AM
I would guess that treyarch wouldnt do COD5 in a modern setting because then people would compare it directly to 4, and they know they would not be able to top that... i feel sorry for treyarch, they have a hard act to follow..
That said, this looks like Call of Duty 4.5.. it looks like a total conversion mod for COD4
Will @ Jun 22nd 2008 12:10PM
I am sorry to say, THIS LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER TRYARCH GAME!!!! It looks nowhere near as good as COD4:MW, it looks just like COD3, and different developers are unlikely to use the same Graphics Engine- Ugh, this is so sadd
I have nothing agaisnt WWII, Airborn is one of my fav. games, but Im sick of the Pacific conflict after seeing 'Thin Red Line' , 'Flags of Our Father' and 'Letters from Iwo Jima'
I bet they saw the movies and thought: hey, ppl like watching these movies, theyre gonna have to love games then - and BTW, that flame thrower looked so crap
RagingStormX @ Jun 22nd 2008 8:35PM
Well I am not concerned on how it looks....the whole WW2 just isn't my thing, so I will not be getting this. Nice trailer though.
Random Hangman @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:58AM
I think this looks excellent! I love COD4 (have it on 360 & PS3) and still play it regularly and after viewing that trailer, I'm genuinely looking forward to WAW.
It's all very good saying "Boo Hoo - Infinity Ward didn't do it" but how about waiting til the game comes out and hoping that Treyarch have learnt lessons from their previous mistakes and hopefully will make a kick-a$$ game.
Michael @ Jun 26th 2008 12:32PM
This game will be class, especially online play because now more people play cod, it will be hard to match cod 4 but will still be a class game.
SgtBeetle @ Jun 25th 2008 2:57AM
I don't understand.. when you have one company that does a great job making a game of the year COD 4 and then let someone else do COD 5. the trailer don't even look as good as COD 4 did. If it ain't broke don't fix it, I always say. Oh well I guess my COD experience begins and ends with COD4..
Should have stayed with IW....
dean @ Jun 28th 2008 2:57PM
modenwarfare brilliant! could have carryd on to modenwarfare part2 maybe but no
goin bk to cod3 ww2 :S
will be crap
LowKi @ Aug 28th 2008 1:48PM
OK so, I'm not sure why they want to explore the "darker" side of WW2. WW2 has beed done to death. now don't get me wrong seeing Canada coming to save Americas ass at the end of COD 3 was awesome. And after watching the video, climbing and sniping from trees is a very welcome change, but WW2 is no longer the way to go. Just because WW2 was the only thing people can think of to make a game, doesn't mean they have to keep pumping the perverbial chemical toilet. we need new and fresh ideas for made up wars.
