PS3 can be a family console, not 360, says Ubisoft producer

An interview on Casualgaming.biz shows that the executive producer of Ubisoft's Games For Everyone range, Pauline Jacquey, sees good potential for the PS3 to become a "family console". By the end of the PS2's life cycle, it has moved from being a hardcore gaming console into a more casual gaming-friendly device; the popularity of games like Singstar leads Jacquey to believe the PS3 will eventually pull off the same feat. She warns that, however, "the shape of the market is not the same when PS2 became mass market." Jacquey further states that she doesn't see the same potential in the Xbox 360, but this will be ultimately determined by the software lineup of each respective console. Rumors of new peripherals like a motion sensing controller and board shows that developers sees the same possibilities in the PS3, so we feel Jacquey's prediction is right on the money.

My family uses my PS3 quite a bit. About 80% of the time its to watch DVDs, but they do play games like Hotshots Golf and Pixeljunk Monsters. As long as the price remains competitive the PS3 will be family friendly to a certain extent.

Not as much as the Wii, but I don't want a majority of the games available to my system family orientated. However, I consider the PS3 and 360 to be about the same family friendly wise. 360 has games like Viva Pinata and Vampire Rain that appeal to families. I'm kidding about Vampire Rain by the way.

LittleBigPlanet could be a huge draw for famalies if Sony gets the word out.

I agree with you man, I really do get tired of hearing all these damn, PS3 vs. 360 and devs actually just feeding fuel to tha fire. 360 has a lot of games coming also family friendly. VP 1 and 2 and party animals, Banjo Kazooie, Scene it!, tha arcade games on XBL Marketplace are also great. The PS3 has a few also, but until I got MGS4 I actually just watched HD movies and let my children play PSN games and old PS1 games like Crash Bandicoot on there. They both have high potential of becoming Family consoles, especially since both supposedly are working on a Wii-Mote controller.
Oh, and before anything is said, im no damn Fanboy, sites like these are idiotic, I just come here for 24/7 PS3 news, just like I goto xbox360fanboy.com also, instead of not getting any gaming news on tha weekend, so on that note, keep up tha good work on getting tha info PSF.com, just stop posting anything that is retarded about TOO much fanboyism..

There have been rumours for the 360 with motion sensing controllers as well. There ARE motion sensing controllers for the Wii. Maybe the PS3 will become a family console but it doesn't mean you should just make it sound like they are coming out with something sensational so that rabid fanboys can come and argue about how the Wii already has motion sensing and the 360 has rumours aswell.

Like i said, i'm disappointed.

She was asked if she thought that Microsoft would succeed in making the 360 a family oriented console and she gave her thoughts on the matter.
That fact that some fanboys get raging console war hard-ons over a 'news' post doesn't make _her_ unprofessional.
What next, people should keep their thoughts to themselves because others can't handle their opinions?

Cocks like Game_playa, are the people I am referring to, ignore them. Anyone who counters an argument by calling someone a FAGboy is pretty insecure about which side of the fence they sit, just because they get upset doesn't mean others should do their best not to upset them.

As for PS3 fanboy. For what its worth I think this post was pretty bad, especially the tabloid style article title.

That's just it though. No one, especially third party developers, care about fanboys. I think this all became very clear when Devil May Cry 4 was announced as multiplatform and Capcom faced an army of whiney brats shouting boycott.

Hmm, here is the problem. As soon as a developer says a good thing about one console (in this case PS3) they are expected to say the same about the other console (Xbox).... well im sorry but the world doesn't work that way. PS3 does have way more potential, and apparently some of you are pissed because that developer said the truth. Since when did it become unprofessional to speak the truth hu? Do you want to hear something like this? " PS3 has good family console potential but Xbox has the same equal opportunity"... well, that would be a lie. PS3 does give developers a lot more options to work with there for giving the PS3 more potential. There is only so much you can do with an Xbox....but there is a lot more you can with a PS3

not to be a fanboy or anything, but the 360 has the same potential. motion sensing, maybe not. IF you want motion sensing go buy a Wii. The 360 has family games, it have rock band, guitar hero, Karaoke Revolution, and NASCAR and golf games, and other sport games. Not only that there are a ton of "family friendly" games in the arcade. There is a potential of a balance board and other accessories like. The PS3's online sucks anyway. Anyway, we all have our own opinions on things and a right called freedom of speech. If we all liked the same stuff the world would be a boring place. I just hate that since HD-DVD went under, everybody is saying the 360 is going to fail. If Blu-Ray would have failed. the same assholes who are saying the 360 is going to fail would say the PS3 is going to fail. They probably don't even have a game console, and are living off welfare in their parents basment.

I see here point given the History of Sony and Microsoft. Both the PS1 and PS2 started as "Hardcore gamer" consoles and moved later on to be also a family console, while MS never tried to bring the Xbox 1 to more casual gamers and so far it didn`t work out well with the 360.

As example Scene It never sold well and that was even a 1:1 copy of Buzz. Next will be then Lips the Singstar copy and and maybe a copy of the Wii-Remote. MS has a lack of in house developers who can make something new (except for Rare). It doesn`t work to just copy other casual games or hardware (that applies also for a Wii-Remote like PS3 controller). If people want to play with a Wii-Remote like controller they get a Wii, if people want to play a Buzz or Singstar like game they get a PS2 or PS3 where the games have a proven history of quality instead of going to the 360 and play a copy of those games. MS has to find there own way and there own games if they want to break into the casual games market and get the console to a lot of people otherwise they don`t have chance with the current strategy.

On the other hand there is Sony with a good amount of 1st Party developers who can create new family games and PSN developers who make new fresh games compared to the pimped retro games on XBLA. Should LittleBigPlanet be able to live up to the hype and the trailers, then it will get a lot gamers on the console who are more casual. Plus what I look forward are games that make use of the Eye Toy camera in a way that was shown some time ago in the "Tech Demo" where you can just paint something on a paper and then use it in a game.

All in all here point is completly valid and just a reflection of what Sony and MS have achieved so far. Sony proved already several times that they can make a console for hadcore and casual gamers, but the attempts of MS failed so far because they mainly copy only Sony games but that`s not what there audience want.

I own both a 360 and a PS3. There is very little in the way of family games for the PS3 right now. That's just the reality of the situation at the moment.

And from what I've seen, Microsoft is really targeting the family market for the future. But I haven't seen Sony doing the same thing.

So I don't really know what her basis is for saying this. If you are going to make claims like this, it would probably be a good thing to bring a little evidence to the table.

I completely agree wit you bro. I honestly just bought my PS3 about 3-4 months ago, mainly for tha Blu-Ray player, and MGS4.
Tha PS3 is just like tha PS2, its succeeding cuz of tha built in DVD drive with tha PS2, alot of people fed into that. Same with tha PS3, tha Blu-Ray being built in, if they would have failed tha HD format war, theyre console would be crushed.

Now I like both of my consoles, 360 a little more right now. I have already played through MGS4, and online is aight, but tha PS3 is more of just a multi-media system to me. Ya know MS is always saying which system is mainly for games??? Well, I hate to tell ya, but 360 right now is there. All I ever hear from tha PSFanboys, is how bad theyre version of a third-party game sucked compared to 360's... example: RSVegas, RSV2, Fear, The Orange box,, just to name a few. Now CoD4 is equivalent to tha 360 version, just minor differences between leaderboards ( PSN to see your friends stats they have to be online, in XBL, you can check them whenever you want ).
I just hope to see both consoles succeed, and here is why... I put my money into both of these consoles.. MY MONEY! So I hope for both, not just one. So NO, im no F**king fanboy, to me you lil kids that are need to get better parents who will buy you 2 or more consoles, stop being broke a**es!

So I guess its just um... GO PS36ii!!!!

I'm glad i have someone who sides with me. I hope both succeed to. I own a PSOne and a PS2. The one thing I like about the 360 over the PS3 is that the 360 can be used as a Windows Media Center Extender. Where I have Windows Vista Home Premium (would not recommend) it works great. I feel the 360 in some ways is Microsoft's version of the Apple TV. I like it so far. When it comes right down to it, both consoles have basically the same games. Only a few first party games are on one or the other. I truly believe both consoles will succeed. Each has Pro's and Con's and different people like different things. I ended up with a 360 because i could afford it. At the time I was like $50 short on a 40gb PS3. Personally i like the way the 360 operates, and i think it looks better in a home theater setting. But, as i said earlier, I hope both do good and have longevity. It's time to end the disputes of which is better and have everyone get along and unite to accomplish a common goal. HAVE FUN GAMING!

Nope, this article is just crock. She never even gave proof for her supposed claims, it was very unprofessional. It sounds like something a forum troll would say.

If you saw someone posting something along the same lines as this, with no proof to back her his/her claims..what would you think?

Well I would say the history is already a good proof and despite of Sony/Nintendo product ripoff there is nothing on the 360. Just name one really good family product (that has a fighting chance against Eye Toy, Wii-Remote or LittleBigPlanet) that comes from MS and is not a ripoff.

Of course the 360 would have the same chances as the PS3 in terms of being a family console, but MS doesn`t use the chances. They just copy without making something new and I don`t think she is unprofessional, it`s just a mater of fact that Sony is good in turning a hardcore console into a family console plus MS doesn`t have anything that comes even close to LBP at the moment.

Idk.. I think they are trying. You have Viva Pinata 2 and Banjo-Kazooie 3 coming out this year. Those look really entertaining. To say that one copies the other would mean that there would be very few products in the world right now. Look at cell phones for example.. Microsoft "copies" just as much as Sony and Nintendo.

Right, few things wrong with this post. I'd like to know when you got a time travel machine, how do you know LBP is any good? Sure, it looks cool but games have been hyped up before..and sucked.

Really, tell me what MS has copied from Sony that Sony has not copied from someone else? As we speak, sony is already copying a few of MS's online ideas. Sony is no better, at all.

-Sony is ripping off achievements, naming them Trophies.

-Sony is ripping off ingame menu, calling it in-game XMB.

When did this happen? Far as I know, PS 1 and 2 are not really considered family consoles and never have been. How do you know Sony is any good at this? Seriously, let me borrow that time machine.
