Call of Duty 5: World at War -- screenshots and four-player co-op detailed

This morning Activision announced a number of details regarding the latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise. Call of Duty: World at War will allow players to live vicariously as both the side of the US against the Japanese and the Russians against the Germans. The most anticipated feature, however, is the four-player co-op mode. On the PS3 (and Xbox 360) version, players can choose between a multiplayer four-player split-screen offline co-op mode or a four-player online co-op mode. Finally, there is experience points to be earned in both online modes, with a difficulty level that "will scale dynamically to provide a deeper level of challenge," so how challenging it will be depends on the experience level of the player and the player's comrades.

Meh, Resitance 2 and Far Cry 2 are on top of my FPS list this fall.
I'll probably pirate this along with Crysis Warhead, if its good, I'll buy it, if not... off into recycle bin.

You wont find out for ages yet, shouldnt be too long. COD5 co-op sounds brilliant, looks like a great selling point.

If this releases in the fall it will be going up against SOCOM and Resistance 2.....seems like suicide to launch in the fall.
Marrvia @ Jun 24th 2008 5:36PM
If COD5 is able to put up the numbers of COD4, it will easily crush SOCOM & Resistance 2 in sales. So it is definitely not suicide. Unfortunately I doubt COD5 is even going to be that good since it is developed by the same guys who did COD3, which was pretty mediocre. I won't be buying this game unless it gets GREAT reviews, although it's hard to trust reviews anymore.
frankym @ Jun 25th 2008 1:46PM
@Maarvia: Are you a moron? Re-read what you wrote...your argument makes no sense. You said if COD5 puts up COD4 numbers, it will crush Resistance and Socom. My point is that COD5 will NOT put those numbers up because first it wont be that good, and second, it is going up against two very highly anticipated games, therefore it will be SUICIDE to go up against these games.

Even if this is the best WW2 game ever, I will still pass.
WW2 games just do not get me interested anymore. Wish em best of luck though.
Popfrogs @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:09PM
Yep, COD3 sucked and Treyarch is living in the past, literally.

It doesn't specify Offline Multiplayer #. How many can play on one tv/console?
Gluesniffer @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:44PM
two-player local split-screen on consoles
kentuckyfried @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:06PM
@ Glue
No possibility of 4 player offline co-op?
Alan Tsang @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:18PM
There is a four-player offline co-op mode and the wording has been changed to clarify this. Apologies for any confusion.
kentuckyfried @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:08PM
I've not played any of the WWII FPS games, so this'll be fine.
If it's done well, why not?
TheBaByBLuEdeViL @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:26PM
Is it made by Infinity Ward? No?Buh bye.

I wonder will the 4 player online coop work like warhawk where you could play with a friend at home and away at the same time? I love that feature
frankym @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:44PM
Whose gonna play this game with SOCOM and Resistance 2 scheduled for release in fall?
Kruegmeister @ Jun 23rd 2008 7:00PM
4 Player Split Screen Co-Op...
Yes Please...
Haven't the Devs figured out that is why the Wii is so popluar.
Yes... Some of us have REAL Friends and not just Online Friends...
James @ Jun 23rd 2008 9:34PM
I'll probably pass on this just based on the fact that it's WW2, but it's about time there is some local co-op, it's so lame to have to pull out the Wii everytime someone comes over because there really aren't any good games.
Hats @ Jun 24th 2008 2:15AM
Why am I the only one excited that it's a ww2 game
Danie @ Jun 24th 2008 8:54AM
$60 For a Mod. lmao?. What a ripoff. I guess there is lot of market puppets that will pay for a COD3+2 Mod. For me!. Call me when you got a new and original game not a clone game with a different mod.
Slug @ Jun 24th 2008 6:20PM
COD4 set the bar and then blew it up.
