Japan readies for God of War by throwing party
God of War: Chains of Olympus is on its way to Japan on July 10. To help get the game into the minds of PSP gamers -- and peel them away from Monster Hunter -- a special event was held last Friday in Tokyo. There were 15 booths where people could try out the game, tons of free swag such as keychains and t-shirts, and specially crafted drinks As Chains of Olympus devs Ready at Dawn have let their sun set on the PSP, this summer's release for Chains will be the final game on the system from the crew. In that respect, this event was not only the celebration for kicking off the PSP God of War game in Japan, but also, an unintentional farewell. We only hope the game does well in Japan because it really deserves the love.

It's such a shame that SCEE doesn't learn a lesson or two from SCEJ about how to release games, build up huge amounts of interest, and interest people in buying a PSP and games. It would be wonderful to see something like this in Europe... A Crisis Core special event in London for instance! What I wouldn't give to see something like that over here.

Well you can't have it for all games but there was a release event for MGS4... 2 kinda there was one for FFXII theres been one for KHII and one for God Of War 2 I'm pretty sure there might've been others too.

Fair enough; the PSP is the only console I have owned though since a Sega Saturn, so I haven't really been paying attention to PS2 game-release parties. Still, I can't remember ever seeing a PSP game-release party in the UK, and surely that sort of thing would help to reinvigorate the PSP market? (At least it couldn't hurt...)

Even though it was fairly short and didn't add anything new to the game mechanics, I enjoyed every minute of the game. An excellent portable addition to the franchise. Hopefully our Japanese friends will enjoy it as well! SO stoked to hear more on GOWPS3.

They obviously have taste over there so it should do fine, I think the psp should be blitzing here too honestly...

About time a game releases here first, i just wish they would get on the ball with, kingdom hearts, i think there taking so long because of piracy, Sony is going to stop realising games, just because of all the games, being pirated.

I think the Japanese are probably going to buy more copies of Persona 4 on July 10. Just my opinion though. I know I want to import it. >.< Play-Asia here I come!

The japanese don't dig western-style games for the most part, but I hope GOW does OK over there.

I wonder where God of War got most of it's inspiration...
cafecito @ Jun 23rd 2008 7:53PM
Greek mythology? =P
Chris G @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:29PM
Wrong! God of War is a Devil May Cry clone first with Greek mythology second.

No, as a hardcore DMC fan I can safely say that GoW 1, 2, or CoO are NOTHING like DMC 1,2,3 or 4.
Alien @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:28PM
In Japan GoW sold 20k copies , while GoW2 did 40k copies . Seeing the fact that PSPs popularity has risen in Japan , I could see it doing anywhere from 20-80k . But thats still nowhere near the amount it already , whitout the help of a bundle , did in the US ( 500k + ) .
cafecito @ Jun 23rd 2008 9:05PM
Is it? Oh well, if you say so. I don't like DMC at all.

BRING ON TEH GOATS!
Dr Haisook @ Jun 24th 2008 5:35AM
I don't think the Japanese will like it that much. They generally like long tough games.
ultra lucky cat @ Jun 24th 2008 1:41PM
Does a free "special drink" and cute asian girl ship with each order of the game? In that case i'll be ordering a copy shortly. :D
