MGS4 shipped three million

Figures for total worldwide sales of Metal Gear Solid 4 are not out yet, but the total shipping numbers are in. IGN via Famitsu, says that total worldwide shipped units for MGS4 have topped over three million. This news comes from Sony's corporate strategy meeting where Kaz Hirai also noted that the game has helped move hardware.

With previous reports of sales in Europe hitting one million in less than two weeks and Japan's first week creeping out with little under 500,000, we're sure interested to hear what the North American numbers will turn out to be. Will we see a significant cut out of those three million shipped units from North America?

Greatest game ever created at this point. Simply superb!!

My only criticism is that there should have been a bit more gameplay.

Wish we could have played as Raiden, even if it was just a little bit :( There were a lot of oppurtunities for it too...

I thought the 80GB bundles weren't selling around here because I saw them sitting in cases 2 days after MGS4 dropped. Last weekend I decided to go to both of those stores and get my Ebay on...but everywhere I went they were already sold out.

I guess this really IS moving hardware...and it doesn't hurt that it's the cherished 80GB model.

That's good numbers... But a question: Didn't Ryan Payton say it had to sell 1 million on day one? Do we know yet if that happened? VGChartz I think said it was 1.3 or 1.4 million on day one, but some people don't believe in their numbers.

Payton came out and said that he never said that and was misquoted. The press got a hold of it (it was misquoted in the NY Times I believe) and ran with it. In truth he never said that to begin with.

Oh, good to know that.. I just did a quick search to see if it were Kojima or Payton, and I found links to Joystiq and PS3FB and both said Payton. I didn't notice any retractions, but I also wasn't looknig for them. Anyhow, thanks for clearing that up!
