The Boss Extreme, beaten in under three hours [!]
The most hardcore MGS4 players are going to go for the Big Boss achievement trophy emblem, which requires masterful play with no deaths, no alerts, no kills, no recovery items, no stealth suit and no special items. To get the emblem, the entire game must be completed in 5 hours, but Tyndis from YouTube has managed to do it in less than three hours.
Obviously, because the entire game can be seen in these videos, it should be obviously that this is one giant spoiler. If you haven't beaten the game yet, come back to watch it later. But for those that want to see Metal Gear greatness, enjoy.

Makes my just under four hours run look bad...
Stoo @ Jun 26th 2008 7:35PM
whats with the crazy walking in video 7? May be in all of them but I only clicked on 7.
Also I didn't realise the guards ignored you in the civilian costume. I though at the start of that level it said anyone outside will be shot on sight. I spent the whole level sneaking behind everyong without being noticed.
Hackmysack @ Jun 26th 2008 8:44PM
is solar gun not a special ? * he uses in 2nd video
jae29one @ Jun 30th 2008 6:49AM
Damn this guy is a BEAST!!!

WOW watching this really makes you feel useless dont anyway well done to the person who did that jesus
stargateheaven @ Jun 26th 2008 9:05PM
He could do it faster, i noticed straight away on the 1st screen. He should roll a little earlier.
kentuckyfried @ Jun 26th 2008 8:20PM
Looking forward to watching this (incrementally of course).
How is it that the Gekko doesn't trigger an alert within the first minute of this video (especially when we can hear the !! sound right in that first sequence)?
KUV1977 @ Jun 26th 2008 10:26PM
no, actually the gecko does not trigger an alert. I also noticed this a couple of times. Also the dwarf-gekkos (or what's their name) in Act 5 don't cause an alarm, you probably couldn't avoid it anyway...
kentuckyfried @ Jun 26th 2008 10:09PM
ohhhhh..that's weird.
I'll h ave to try that out. So the Gekkos will see you, get agitated and shoot at you, but don't count as an alert? What about those unmanned flying things?
also, what about the Beauty and the Beast bosses? If they lose sight of you but see you again, those count as alerts? (I can't remember, I'm on my 2nd playthrough for no kills/no alerts and I haven't gotten to Laughing Octopus just yet).
KUV1977 @ Jun 26th 2008 10:36PM
oh i forgot, while fighting the BB-Corps you won't trigger an alert with them ever - as far as i can tell. I am not sure what happens if your fight takes long enough that the frogs awake... They most probably will trigger an alert...
mavbsbll21 @ Jun 26th 2008 8:50PM
Solar gun ownage in video 2...
KUV1977 @ Jun 26th 2008 10:35PM
I am not totally sure about the Gekkos.
I think they do! trigger an alert but not in the beginning of Act I as you are looking to them as if you are one of the militia men who they are chasing anyway, so why would they give an alert for you. I think the noise is there though so you know they are after you...

At least at the beginning the Gekkos will make the usual "!" noise, but don`t trigger any alert phasen, but they will sometime go after you. Guess that`s because it is just the beginning and kind of tutorial for the player, plus it is hard to avoid the Gekkos at all at the start.
SporadiK @ Jun 28th 2008 10:08PM
It's a fake. He killed Crying Wolf therefore he cannot possibly get the BB emblem. Nice try though guy, you can't fool the people that watch the whole thing.
JaseH @ Jun 27th 2008 3:55AM
What's the point of rushing a game?... how does it make you any greater, just because you can finish a "game" faster than others?
I like to take my time with games.
This is like, picking up a movie, fast forwarding it to the end & recall everything you've seen.
*clap clap clap* I love you humanity.

The point is - since you were asking - to unlock the big boss emblem, which was obviously put in there for a reason - so that people unlock it... for that you have to beat the game in under 5 hours on hardest difficulty. Also you have to skip the cut scenes or otherwise they are counted in your play time... i doubt also that it was his first playthrough and sometimes with movies you already know, it totally makes sense to skip the parts you don't like or find boring just to see the scenes you find great...
Also there is this new thing called 'tolerance'. So even if there was no pint in being fast other than he wanted to be, it would be sufficient as he did not harm anyone else with it...
by the way: I love humanity, too, at least sometimes...
Tombstone @ Jun 27th 2008 7:39AM
It's called Speedrunning.
PSPDog @ Jun 27th 2008 12:28PM
It's pretty obvious that this guy has played each level several times. He knew exactly where enemies would be and the exact paths to take to avoid them and get the fastest time.
JaseH @ Jun 27th 2008 2:07PM
The emblem is for 'show'. As proof that you've beaten the game under 5 hours on "Hardest" difficulty. My point is, WHY?!...
Does this emblem really matter to people?... how sad can one get?... - I stick to my opinion. It's pointless.
5 hours is required & people give props for 3?... - I'll tell you what. I'll pick up a book, say bible size, & and I'l let you read it first. After you're done, I'll pick it up & skim right through it. Oh no, it's fine... I've already read it. But guess what?... Yes!... Speed of lightning baby!!
It's such a pathetic 'goal' for a game. Leave this to races.
Anyway, I appreciate everyone being easy & calm on me here, however some of you will either love it or hate it. It is how it is.
I guess I'm just too much of a gamer to understand this at all.

Chill JaseH. It's just for fun. Yeah, I think it's stupid to rush through a game too, but after you've beat it legit and know it through and through, then why not have a bit of fun with it and do whatever you fancy, like say "hey, I wonder how fast I could get to the end?" or "I wonder if I can beat it without killing a single enemy?" and so on.
Using your own movie example, I sometimes will pop in a movie I've seen a bunch of times before, just to re-watch a particular scene... is that somehow cheating too? I've seen the movie all the way through many times, I just want to check out one aspect in particular again.
Popfrogs @ Jun 27th 2008 6:24PM
@JaseH: You just don't get it. Speedruns have been around for a long time and demonstrate a deep mastery of each level/screen of the game. People have been speedrunning all the Metal Gear games and I personally think it's impressive to watch.
I'd also like to see a 100% video some time.
Solid Snake @ Jun 28th 2008 2:50AM
Its because he's trying to get an emblem on the hardest difficulty. In doing so he gets the Patriot, a full auto unlimited ammo super gun.
The Clunge @ Jun 27th 2008 7:59AM
Heh, I just completed the middle east on Big Boss Hard, and thanks to the amount of slow paced sneaking required to avoid alerts and using non-lethal weapons only, that Act alone took me 1 hour 15 minutes to complete. I don't see me matching this performance.
saulpimpson @ Jun 27th 2008 9:58AM
so metal gear solid 4 only has 3 hours of gameplay? ;P
Lars @ Jun 27th 2008 3:30PM
Hehe, I'm surprised there aren't more comments like this. You're not serious right? Please tell me you're not serious.
That's like saying total game time in Tetris is one second, because that's how long it takes to get a block to land or something.
saul @ Jun 27th 2008 3:53PM
no i'm not serious, it was a joke.
but it wouldn't surprise me there are many long cutscenes. i've been playing it and after i got past raging raven and watched the 45 minutes of cutscenes i haven't picked it up again yet. i might play 1 night a week until i get through the rest. it's a real time suck.
Solid Snake @ Jun 28th 2008 2:21AM
All I could do was watch with my mouth open... That is nuts! He has it down to a science.
highman888 @ Jun 28th 2008 8:40PM
Tyndis actually isn't the person who did these video's he just posted them. These video's are actually compilations from several different players, 3 at least. You can notice at some parts the video clips don't sync up to the next correctly. The person who did post this is very very good at video splicing however.
SporadiK @ Jun 28th 2008 10:11PM
The video is BS. He KILLED Crying Wolf and in the end screen it said he has 0 kills. It's all BS, trust me.
brad @ Jul 5th 2008 8:01PM
if u kill the B & B corps bosses it doesn't count as a kill it only counts as a kill if u kill them after they take of their suits so its not a fake cuz i am in the act 3 first part and i killed L. octopus first form and tranq-ed the second form and it sed no kills and as for the gekkos in the very first part in act 1 and in the very last part of act 2 the gekkos dont trigger an alert cuz its pretty much impossible to get past them undetected and this is my third playthrough so i'm going for the bb emblem and i dont even hav the solar gun so it has been and will be especially hard for me and i've had to go through each sequence a lot of times and the clock is ticking when u pause the game, when ur at the title screen, and when ur on the home screen of ur ps3,the only time it doesn't keep running is when ur ps3's turned off, when it is downloading the next part, and when it is loading but it does keep running when the screen says to press start and it even keeps going whenwhen ur saving the game i kno its crazy my time right now is and hour and forty sumthing minutes and i'm only in the first part of act 3 but if i need to pause it i save then pause and when i come bak i just exit to the title screen and and load at the last save point and there u go
p.s.the clock is also running during the cut scenes
brad @ Jul 10th 2008 11:51PM
damn that was good
brad @ Jul 6th 2008 1:20AM
these r the items u get once you've achieved the bb emblem:
WORLD WAR I PISTOL
DESERT EAGLE,LONG BARREL
THOR 45-70
PATRIOT FUTURE ASSAULT WEAPON
PATRIOT SUB-MACHINE GUN
STEALTH ITEM
BANDANNA
BIG BOSS IPOD SONG
BIG BOSS FACE CAMO
u also get the fox hound and fox emblem u might get the hound emblem i cant remember and by the way the reason killing the first stage of the bosses doesn't count as a kill is cuz when they get out of their suits are they dead or r they alive thats rite they r alive therefore it's not a kill the only reason u wud want to tranq or stun them is to try and get the solar gun but u hav to stun or tranq the second phase cuz then it wud b killing them otherwise (^;
