Life with Playstation, on video
Were the pictures not enough? Now you can watch the globe in action with the above video showing the freshly announced Life with Playstation. Apparently, the globe isn't just a map but rather actual satellite imaging showing real-time cloud patterns. In addition to reading the news, it also appears you can browse the web and create a selection of music in your hard drive under a title, such as "relaxation", to suit your mood.
[Thanks, Kspraydad!]

"Apparently, the globe isn't just a map but rather actual satellite imaging showing real-time cloud patterns."
Now that really is cool.
Flicky @ Jun 27th 2008 8:07AM
Real time imagery is a cool feature. It would be great if this will work automatically, circling the earth and displaying the items arond the world automatically rather than manually clicking on each one with the controller / mouse. Kinda like a 3D world weather map / RSS news feed.
tony @ Jun 27th 2008 8:08AM
hah, bit late? the wii already has this globe feature that displays world news :D (maybe not with such a good looking globe but at least the wii has the actually star placement in the sky around the earth)
Devin @ Jun 27th 2008 10:22AM
in all it's SD-goodness!
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Jun 27th 2008 11:42AM
that is very true, and i dont think this feature will be a selling point on the PS3 either. its just something else it can do. i mean its kinda cool, and it puts the two Wii features in one program but its nothing to write home about. i will probably rarely use it honestly.
ChodalBerryWagon @ Jun 27th 2008 8:11AM
that looks awesome.
I hope you can zoom in and use it like Google earth, but for some reason I don't see that happening :(
But still, I can imagine myself spending hours and hours just staring at that globe lol, it looks so cool.
and real time cloud patterns sounds incredible
I hope this comes out soon, hopefully within a month or so after E3 (sorry if it was mentioned in earlier posts about 'Life with Playstation', but I just can't be bothered going back and reading them [i have a short memory span lol])

What's next? Will it wash my dishes?
For God's sake...EVERYTHING but games... come on Sony...get it together
stargateheaven @ Jun 27th 2008 8:27AM
I know! They need to concentrate on games.. Or at least 2 teams working on both individually.
adolson @ Jun 27th 2008 9:52AM
Oh, that tired, mythical argument again? *yawn*
reson8er @ Jun 27th 2008 10:35AM
^^
Yeah it seems like a lot of people are stuck in 2005 still.
Sucks to be them really. They must be very high strung.
On eating Raisin Bran Cereal:
"My cereal has no raisins!"
On watching a Jerry Bruckheimer Movie:
"My movie has no explosions!"
You all should stop thinking about what isn't and concentrate on what is :)
Vader582 @ Jun 27th 2008 11:31AM
You mean Sony should concentrate on shovelware like Nintendo? I'd rather have fewer quality games as opposed to a ton of crapware.
MexicanTerrorist @ Jun 27th 2008 8:17AM
Maybe if they focused these resources on Home than maybe it wont be delayed any longer.
Seriously.
Rowdehaj @ Jun 27th 2008 8:35AM
YES. A News feature would be very good for an already ONLINE service ... like Home itself o__o
mixel @ Jun 27th 2008 11:54AM
I'm pretty sure they have enough devs to work on both simultaneously. ;)
More man-power doesn't always speed a project up. Too many cooks spoil the broth etc.
acedoh @ Jun 27th 2008 10:35AM
This looks great and to those who make comments like they should put their time behind games or HOME.... Do you think SONY only has 20 employees? This is part of their Japan division and has nothing to do with the division working on HOME. I think most of these very nice free and extra features will be here this year.
MexicanTerrorist @ Jun 27th 2008 8:30PM
Judging by how fast they are getting these things out, you'd think they only have 20 employees.
But really, I'm not all that mad. I just wish we'd get to experience these things rather than just hear about them.
Word Up, North Korea! @ Jun 27th 2008 12:16PM
They really shouldn't announce things like this until they're ready to come out...this better not be another 9-18 month wait like Home and video download service
focacci @ Jun 27th 2008 4:29PM
All I can picture is this screen on my TV, while siting in the dark, with Pink Floyd, a bean bag chair and a bong.
Graeme Byers @ Jun 27th 2008 7:14PM
You're so incredibly right.
Arnon @ Jun 28th 2008 11:44AM
Cmon.. They realize the PS3 is a gaming console right?.. I don't need to watch weather patterns on a $500-$600 console that I bought for gaming and blu-ray.
benisajosher @ Jul 26th 2008 3:33PM
Then don't use it. It's not like anybody is telling you to. :/
Vinny @ Jul 27th 2008 3:10AM
This generation of systems is focusing on more than just games, all the consoles are showing this.
This is just another feature, its not meant to be looked at as anything more... Its pretty much just something else to mess with. I can't wait to check this out!
Will @ Jul 30th 2008 5:24AM
It would be cool if the globe showed all PS3 consoles that are on and connected to the net. A small illuminated dot for each...kinda like frapper.
Curt @ Aug 5th 2008 5:48PM
Go into the Folding@Home thing, it has dots for all PS3 users connected to the internet on the globe used for a background.
Will @ Aug 5th 2008 10:38PM
I've seen that screen but I didn't realize that was what those dots were. That's cool.
Kaiser_ @ Aug 26th 2008 10:20PM
awww man, the video wont play on ps3 thats messed up -_- the video is L.w.P for PS3 and it wont play for its own system its gonna be on -_- guess i gotta go on youtube
