SOCOM headset officially revealed
The Blu-ray retail version of SOCOM Confrontation will include a Bluetooth headset. However, expect something much classier than the one included in the Warhawk bundle so long ago. This one is made specifically with gaming in mind -- and as such, earns the official PlayStation branding. The headset, which will also be available seperately from the game, is designed for long use and even includes a much-needed Mute button, a feature uncommon to most Bluetooth headsets. The device will also include a USB cradle, so that it can be charged via the PS3.
While neither the design and price have been completely finalized, Sony plans on pricing this quite competitively. From the looks of its quality, we believe Sony will charge more than what they did for Warhawk.

What exactly is a Blu-ray headset?

"include a Blu-ray headset"
Wow Sony is really pushing the envelope with technology this generation. Blue tooth is soooo last gen.

I miss the old ps2 socom headset that i had to keep together with eletrical tape lol
LS @ Jun 27th 2008 12:50PM
I still use my Socom 1 headset to this very day. Nice bit of kit back then, so I expect this BT version to be a sound investment too
Nathan @ Jun 27th 2008 12:57PM
I've already talked to people at GameStop (which are taking pre-orders for SOCOM) and they said the pricing they're receiving is $59.99 retail (with the headset). I don't know if that will change at a later date, but that's what it's going for now.
wisconsinista @ Jun 27th 2008 3:50PM
Wow that's not competitive at all. Google the BT125 -the warhawk BT headset and you should be able to get it for $20 as I did. Works great for it's purpose. $30 price premium to plug in to ps3 it seems if Gamestop is to be trusted.
Phoenix @ Jun 27th 2008 5:52PM
That's WITH a game. Not just the headset.
Bit more competitive now, isn't it.
Nkosi @ Jun 27th 2008 8:17PM
The game w/o headset is going for $36.99 on Newegg and $56.99 with it.
A $20 bluetooth isn't bad right? Especially one w/ a mute button.
Nathan @ Jun 27th 2008 10:43PM
I don't know how they can sell the game without the bluetooth headset seeing how they've said on numerous occasions that the retail version will be bundled with a headset. So unless they've changed their mind in the numerous interviews, I'd go with GameStop since they're usually pretty accurate on prices and dates.
Paul @ Jun 27th 2008 11:41PM
It's a nice package deal.

It looks very good. I'll be picking it up.
shato @ Jun 27th 2008 1:11PM
i'm not a socom fan, but i'm buying it for the headset although it isn't a blu-ray headset after all XD
Carney @ Jun 27th 2008 1:48PM
I went through the trouble of getting the Blu-ray Warhawk rather than the download in part because I wanted the headset. But I've never been able to get the headset to work. I follow the instructions on the little yellow piece of paper but the menus in the PS3 don't even correspond to what it says should appear. Has there been a system software update that has significantly changed the menus since the game's release?
Anyway I'm still hobbled online from not being able to talk.
Maybe I'll pick this thing up.
phuphroo @ Jun 27th 2008 2:09PM
blu-ray headset lmao! wow, that sure caused a disturbance in ps3fanboy!

Looks great but will cost $60 standalone and I'm not a Socom fan but if it coast 60 standalone I might actually buy Socom just to get this and increase my pathetic PS3 library.
Rob79 @ Jun 29th 2008 3:57PM
Not sure if anyone noticed, but in the last picture you can see a little nub at the bottom of the headset, this looks alot like a JawBone. For those that do not know what that is it is a Bluetooth headset that uses a sensor that sits on your cheek and when you talk it listens but when you are not talking it uses noise shield technology to cancel out everything around you. I am very interested if this is the case, because right now my jawbone works GREAT with PS3 the only thing it is missing is that mute button. Interested if anyone else has one and thinks the same as me. I went to the socom site where they talk about it a bit and they mention there is more features to be announced so this would be great news if it was the same tech in teh jawbone.
theclaw @ Jun 29th 2008 8:13PM
It's because this is the first bluetooth headset which Sony has branded with the Playstation logo.
w00zzy @ Jul 1st 2008 6:36AM
The price of the game should be 60.00 w/headset. That was what I heard last month. Hope nothing changes between now and Sept. 16th. I just recently gave away my Socom 1 headset that came with the game. Maybe this one will be as good.
Bluetooth headsets speak out @ Jul 3rd 2008 1:07AM
I like to know about its range and when it will release.
allen @ Aug 18th 2008 3:16PM
gamestop has the headset standalone on their website for 49.99. The bundle is 59.99. The only thing I want to know is: Does this headset have a noise cancelling circuit?
Jonathan @ Aug 19th 2008 4:35PM

So better than the Warhawk jabra one huh? When I have the Jabra turned off I can clearly hear people through the speakers but when the headset is in my EAR I cant hear anything but people mumbling jibberish to each other that you can't hear. Betcha it's just my bandwidth..pfft
