DualShock 3's available this Friday in Europe

There's no word on whether any different colours will be available, so we're going to assumed that you'll have a choice between black and black. You can count on SCEE to announce something so long-awaited without a modicum of pomp or ceremony. Despite the lack of a fanfare, we're happy to see DualShock 3s finally becoming standard everywhere in the world. All that's left is to phase out the SIXAXIS models and start bundling DS3s with all PS3s. Here's hoping.
[UPDATE] To clarify: DualShock 3s will be made available on the 2nd of July on the Continent and on the 4th of July in the UK.

£40?That's a lot of money for a controller. To anyone with a DS3: Is the price worth it?
Dub @ Jun 30th 2008 5:47AM
YES!!
Especially for games like GTA4 and MGS4 and Uncharted.
How did you guys play these without a ds3?
I seriously want to know how it was on a sixaxis, I can't believe you guys didn't have these before.
Livi70590 @ Jun 30th 2008 6:18AM
Grand Theft Auto hardly uses it. Burnout Paradise, Battlefield Bad Company, MGS4 all work well. Especially after beating mantis.
benny boy @ Jun 30th 2008 6:40AM
How can they charge that much?? Seriously!
That's the same price as a game over here. Or it's the equivalent of $80.
benny boy @ Jun 30th 2008 6:54AM
At least we're FINALLY getting them. Yay.
Devin @ Jun 30th 2008 11:05AM
Yes, the controller feels/looks better, rumbles like a charm & has longer battery life than the SIXAXIS. I was lucky enough to get one for $34.99 ($44.99 - $10) on Buy.com using my Google Checkout discount.
Stoo @ Jun 30th 2008 5:43AM
I imported one a month ago for less than £39.99...
It's crazy in SCEE land.
LiquidSun @ Jun 30th 2008 5:56AM
90% at SCEE should be fired, the top 10% left should work for SCEA. SCEA should take control over Europe also.
Here's hoping.
Greg @ Jun 30th 2008 6:07AM
They really know how to screw us in Europe... I am glad I import everything from Taiwan (more than half price)... In your face SCEE !!!!!!
jim @ Jun 30th 2008 6:14AM
I got mine for £27 a month and a half ago and sold my two sixaxsis for £20 each on E-Bay. Its amzaing how some shops namely Currys and Game still sell this for £30 - £35. Once again Sonys biggest and most loyal region gets screwed.
Shader @ Jun 30th 2008 6:20AM
I got an imported white one for £30 last month, well done SCEE.
Ves @ Jun 30th 2008 6:46AM
The SCEE site says July 2nd.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today announced that DUALSHOCK®3 Wireless Controller will be available for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) in Europe on July 2, 2008.
Carl @ Jul 1st 2008 10:24AM
Wow, what a screwover.
Hoorah for importing for half price!
Luke "MacMan" Centino @ Jun 30th 2008 7:08AM
I think people in Europe who paid the full £425 for a PS3 should get sent one for free as like a thankyou.
ChodalBerryWagon @ Jun 30th 2008 7:26AM
...is there a different SCE company for Australia other than SCEE?
Because we've had DS3s for like... a while now.... :S
CrustyManMeat @ Jun 30th 2008 8:46AM
Whatever you do, use some common sense and do not buy one of these from your local shop. £39.99 is a rip off. Just import one from ebay it will save you about £10 - £15 including shipping.
The Dark Trooper @ Jun 30th 2008 8:02AM
Eh? DS3 have been out for months here in NZ, I thought we part of Europe Sony wise?
stargateheaven @ Jun 30th 2008 8:03AM
39.99. are you kidding??! Rediculous. I really want one, but now i'm not so sure :(
can anyone tell me a good site to import one? a few days ago someone linked to one on a forum and it was really cheap.. but i can't remember the site.
Brodie-san @ Jun 30th 2008 8:48AM
Bought mine in Japan and smuggled it back. Cost €26 (after currency conversion).
It's a nice controller. I missed the "heft" in the Six-Axis. It always felt under-equipped to me. Light and plastic-y. Like it wouldn't be up to getting thrown at a TV.
I should note though for people going to pick these up. The rumble (so far, for me) is NOT as strong as the PS2 versions. It's nice though - Resistance works really well with it. And Uncharted beomes a whole new game. Still not work €59.99 or whatever Sony are going to charge for it in Europe though.
bvhj @ Jun 30th 2008 9:17AM
I already imported a DS3 from America around the beginning of June. It was cheaper than they're going to be over here too :I
MrGrey @ Jun 30th 2008 12:15PM
As usual we in Europe are the last in the queue, but rest assured the wait has been worth it: I have 2 of these I bought from eBay and they really are a brilliant piece of kit. The build quality is much better than the original sixaxis pads and the dualshock feedback just adds an extra dimension to games - I`m just at a loss as to why it`s taken so long to officially come to Europe?

FUCKING YES!!!
babyface @ Jun 30th 2008 12:12PM
Strange. I bought one in a shop here about a month ago. Apparently Switzerland is not part of Europe. I wonder if it belongs to Japan or the US then...
jim @ Jul 1st 2008 6:10AM
Switzerland is part of Sonys EU region but the shop you bought it from must have imported from US or Japan like some shops do here in UK with foregin games that are not released here.
Mooseman721 @ Jun 30th 2008 4:53PM
I imported one of these months ago for 30 pounds.
DelSource @ Jun 30th 2008 7:40PM
Stop your bitching, get off your fat, ungrateful asses and find a f***ing deal. I just preordered the DS3 for 32.99 including postage from a UK online game seller. You can too if you aren't too busy complaining about something very welcome.

Good enough for you?
Be grateful you don't have to buy a Wiimote and Nunchuck set.......
