Bad Company devs address issues, Conquest Mode DLC soon
DICE wants to let you know they're still working hard on improving Battlefield: Bad Company by fixing some issues that have popped up and also by adding some much desired content. DICE isn't goofing off here, the addition of a Battlefield series staple, Conquest Mode, is apparently almost done. DICE says it's "currently going through testing and certification." According to Shack News, this DLC will be free of charge.
Also, in case you've run into some bugs or problems, DICE is listening and is working on several issues. Here's a list they've laid out:
Also, in case you've run into some bugs or problems, DICE is listening and is working on several issues. Here's a list they've laid out:
- Clan support/private rooms/team chat
- Auto balancing on servers
- Continued support against stats exploits
- VOIP issue on PS3 (working with Sony on this)
- Squads might be split up when joining a server as a squad. This is due to team balancing in the games that are being joined, and usually resolves itself in round 2.

What about Trophies?
Shane @ Jul 2nd 2008 8:48AM
How about doing something about the utterly false "You are the Last Man Standing!" warning...or either completely removing the red dots over your opponents or making their presence make a bit more sense (how does the game decide when a red dot appears?)...or tweaking the differences between the various weapons so that they actually mean a little something(is it me, or are reload-times the main difference)? Oh yeah, and as the guy above said...friggin' trophies.
UKASSKICKR @ Jul 2nd 2008 9:03AM
SHANE, THE LAST MAN STANDING IS WHEN U ARE THE LAST MAN ALIVE IN YA SQUAD OF 4, AND THE DOTS APPEAR OVER THE ENEMY WHEN U OUT YA CROSS HAIR OVER AN ENEMY OR A MOTION SENSOR PICKS EM UP!
RazLeboL @ Jul 2nd 2008 10:27AM
Last Man standing is always right... It doesn't mean you are the last man standing in your team, it means your the last man standing in your 4 man squad.
The dots appear when one of your teammates spot the enemy and it's shown for everyone. They also show if a recon class uses their radar "grenades".
They have minor differences and it's this way so that it stay balanced for everyone.
saulpimpson @ Jul 2nd 2008 9:51AM
also if a teammate sees an enemy they will appear as a dot on your map. my main beef is where are the parachutes? kinda makes helicopter flying a lot more dangerous than it should be.
nick parker @ Jul 22nd 2008 9:23PM
it decides by whether or not they have done or taken damage in the last minute, and whether or not it believes you are attempting to shoot them. it shows it when it thinks you plan on shooting (when you have a sniper reticule on their head) it might also show when they're about to shoot you, i'm not sure
onesidezero2481 @ Jul 2nd 2008 9:42AM
agreed. trophies ftw.
ModderFokker @ Jul 2nd 2008 9:55AM
I want a gun that actually kills somebody after three hits and not a entire ammo clip
Popfrogs @ Jul 2nd 2008 11:52AM
The sniper pistol is pretty deadly, give that a try.
Kevin @ Jul 2nd 2008 10:02AM
This game had a terrible demo.
Snake @ Jul 2nd 2008 10:33AM
I liked it :P
Kevin @ Jul 2nd 2008 11:08AM
Well it's just an opinion but the controls felt a little weird.
Maybe its because I liked COD4s controls so well.
Wayne @ Jul 7th 2008 6:53AM
I really liked the demo, now I have the game. It's not for everyone I guess...
DaDriva92 @ Jul 2nd 2008 10:33AM
It would definetly be an approvement to do something about the "YOU ARE THE LAST MAN STANDING" message.. It's figgin' irritating when it appears in the middle of the screen, and just bugs the hell out of me. it's just a distraction, it would be fine if they put in a corner or somewhere it's not blocking your vision. maybe just create an icon for it, and place it above health and ammo. Other than this small thing, I think the game is off the hook, and it'll probably get a lot better with the conquest mode coming up! Great work, DICE!
Omorda @ Jul 2nd 2008 11:45AM
it is in the instruction booklet. page 11 in hints. it also has several awards listed for it. so if you didn't know you were put in four man squads than you just can't be helped. i mean it even gives you the option to spawn with your squad!
that being said, i can't wait for a some dlc...the unlocks section seems so unexciting compared to cod4 (which face it, everyone is going to compare this game too).
Nachkebia @ Jul 2nd 2008 11:16AM
How about Trophy support and in game music support including in the next patch?
Shane @ Jul 2nd 2008 11:36AM
I didn't even know there WERE four man squads during multiplayer. This is the problem with games that ship with nigh-useless manuals. If this is my first Battlefield game how am I supposed to know there are four man squads when the manual doesn't say anything about that? If I'm in a tank at the gunner position and somebody is driving my tank and "You are the Last Man Standing!" pops up that's gonna cause confusion. How do I know who's in my squad and why should I care? I think I'd like the game better without the red dots. To each their own.
OAKside @ Jul 2nd 2008 12:03PM
"If this is my first Battlefield game how am I supposed to know there are four man squads when the manual doesn't say anything about that?"
This is my, I dunno, fourth(?) BF game and I am still trying to figure out things. I'm a fan of DICE (on the PC at least), but they have done a very poor job explaining things like squads, "red dots" or ANY advanced controls/techniques.
There's no excuse for not releasing a decent, comprehensive manual on a game of this scale. It feels unprofessional and rushed. I can't help feel that EA has done "extensive research" and came to the conclusion that manuals are for dorks. Or something. :)
Averna @ Jul 2nd 2008 12:15PM
Just to clarify.
You identify your squad by the colour of their name on the scoreboard, the light blue people are on your squad.
It notifies you when youre the last man so you can take cover and allow your squad to spawn at your location, rather than back at the base camp(clearly more important for attackers).
The purpose of squads is to allow you to gain tactical points for working together (Im yet to have a game where people actually work as a group). So if youre in a tank with a squad member and one of you takes a guy out, you get bonus points for being the diver or the support.
Playing in a good squad (only works with friends right now, everyone else seems to play the damned thing like a solo deathmatch) you can rack up an insane amount of kills/points in a round. Spec Ops class is awesome if you actually have a Demo class with you that doesnt bugger off after 15seconds.
a.j. @ Jul 2nd 2008 12:04PM
this game rules.
uh-oh polio @ Jul 2nd 2008 12:14PM
How about making the guns actually kill people? Ive shot people in the chest with more than half of my 50 round clip and they ran up to me and knifed me. I mean what the fuck is that.
Let me choose who i want to spawn next to.
Make some sort of UAV system
Make the tanks more destructible. No More taking 4 rpgs to knock them out.
Make me able to land my helicopter instead of blowing up even when i set it down very lightly.
In game music
Add-on sights
Let me talk to everyone on my team. as i use sniping a lot as a form of recon above everyone.
Take out the handheld artillery thing people use every 30 seconds.
annnd we should be good. Other than that great work.
Martez @ Jul 2nd 2008 12:22PM
Tanks go down with one C4- doesn't get much easier than that.
I think mics would work better if it was open mic for your squad, push a button to talk to the entire team.
Sergiosimon @ Jul 10th 2008 12:31PM
With that uav system where you are thinking about it's more like call of duty and than this game doesn't have the battlefield feeling anymore this game just is fucking awesome
Pistolaero @ Jul 2nd 2008 1:00PM
-How about fixing the grenade/explosion splash damage. Can't tell you how many times I've hit someone with a grenade and they still live.
-A few times, I've spawned next to my sniping buddy who has just laser tagged a vehicle. Only, I didn't spawn next to him like I should have, but with the missile he just called down. Guess who got -10 points for a suicide?
-Did Ubisoft make this game? The reason I ask is, why is there an annoying gunfire glitch in this game? I have to completely quit the game to get my sound working again, not to mention that it sometimes just completely stops working. As if I put it on mute forever.
-My screen as a sniper goes black and I have to suicide myself in order to get picture back, but its ok! I can still see the map, my ammo and stuff...just not anything else.
redtown4life @ Jul 2nd 2008 2:29PM
i had the same problems while playing. Nice to know it wasn't just me with those problems.
CoxMulder @ Jul 7th 2008 6:59PM
Can't believe u complain so much...
2/3 headshots from the weakest rifle/gun takes out any enemy, more powerful weapons need only one good headshot.. that's the way it's supposed to be..
And tanks too strong?? U must be kiddin, i like to flank a busy tank plant a c4 on its side and blow it up with a single flick of a switch.. great feeling, u should try it..
Also, an at-mine will almost instantly kill a heavy tank..
Learn to fly if u want to use a chopper, it can be a powerful weapon if flown by some1 who can.. i found it very easy to land, but prefer to get out about 10 feet above the water, and have it crash and blow up (and respawn at ur base) instead of leaving it for enemy use. (great for getting to those crates before the defenders..)
The orange dots can be confusing, but i have no real problem with it. Just use it as an extra, dont rely on it..
I do hate the fact i cant chat with the rest of my team.
And i would like to play an ordinary team deathmatch some of the time..
boris @ Jul 9th 2008 4:39PM
Another annoying point is that I seem to get killed by a shotgun from 100m. I thought they were close range weapons!
XTReME_PriNglE @ Jul 10th 2008 10:03AM
i really dont know why everyone complains about this game and why they comapre it to COD 4 yes COD 4 was good but cmon you can only play it for sooo long. The new frostbite engine for BF works a treat name another game with destructible environments........? thought so. All I need is a decent squad to play with if you fancy a "decent" game then add me PSN= XTReME_PriNglE . and as for the your the last man in your squad stay laive business, if you didnt have a shit squad you wouldnt hear that message all the time! any way I have been waiting for this game along time and now its hear and there is no moaning at all yes the guns take an age to kill but the enemy has the same amount of clips he has to pound into you get up the ranks unlock decent weapons and kill em all!......
Alan Cortez @ Jul 16th 2008 10:45PM
Thank You Averna for being smarter than the rest of us, or actually reading your BC manual, and informing us on how this all works. I have been playing the demo since it came out and had no idea how all of that worked. Cant wait for conquest mode, game does feel slightly rushed but very fun to play. In fact, I have tried all of the call of duty games, although the graphics and gameplay are pretty great, (they actually just blur the background more in order to make the foreground graphics better and cinematic looking, no complaints with that) but why cant we get in and drive one of the many tanks and vehicles lying around mocking us... Vehicles rule, especially tanks. It would be nice if there were more choppers tho and maybe some jets, seems like ps3 should be able to handle that, as they managed it for BF2 on the PC like five years ago... Other than that, please DICE hurry up and give us a CONQUEST MODE already, if you can't tell, all of us should be playing BC instead of ranting on some lame blog site, no offense joystiq.

all of you complaining about sound and video crashing, I suggest going to your ps3's settings and writing down all the audio settings, mixing them all up, then putting them back. you
may have a simple bug in your ps3's audio. but make sure you write them ALL down, you don't want to have a game where guns are silent and walking is deafening. do the same for video
