Nyko Media Hub adds USB ports, SD card support to 40GB machines

The cheaper 40GB is missing a few features, the most noteworthy being backwards compatibility with PS2 games. However, it has a few other minor quirks. For example, it only has two USB ports, instead of four, and it's missing some memory card readers. (The 20GB launch machine is also missing memory card readers.) Well, Nyko will have none of that nonsense!From the press release: "We found that many of our customers who had purchased the popular 40 GB version of the PS3, which has less USB ports and no media card reader, were looking for an affordable solution to expand with these features," said Chris Arbogast, Director of Marketing at Nyko Technologies. "With the Media Hub, an additional three USB ports and a media card reader are now possible for all PS3 models, allowing consumers to enjoy the full capabilities of their multimedia system no matter which model they choose."
The Media Hub is expected to hit stores in August, with a rather steep asking price of $20.

Um, $20 isn't steep. For what it does and how it helps your PS3 experience it's worth a lot more. I'm mean come on, you're telling me sony removed all that stuff from the cheaper models to save only $20?

im sure it does. all PS3's can use card readers and USB hubs anyway and im sure that's all this thing is. $20 isn't a terrible price either since you get it all in a neat little package too.

No need for memory card readers. My 20GB has 4 USB ports....and I have a ton of USB memory sticks.

Ya it's a good deal if your into media.I have a 80 gig so this is useless for me, but nice to see they are givein people a choice.

The most important question is: is that a external powered USB 2.0 hub? If not, it's not worth the money...

Why would you need this if you have a 60GB PS3?
I guess extra USB ports is nice but the Media Hub would be pretty useless.

I paid $45 for four extra usb hubs so i could play rock band. how is $20 expensive? then again, this is Canada and we get ripped off every day of our life.

As long as it slids in and matches the PS3's color, I'm buying it... Or I can always buy an external card reader because I already ordered a smexy usb hun... o_O
