Real Yakuza 3 announced

We've been billing the previous game Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan (which released in Japan on March 6 this year) as Yakuza 3 for the past year or so because, well, it's easier to write than the original name. We guess we won't be able to do that anymore. The game will be a direct sequel to Yakuza 2. It currently does not have a set release date.

Ok, somebody clarify this for me:
(1) Yakuza 2 was never released in the U.S. but will be soon before the "real", non-Edo era Yakuza 3 arrives in the U.S. (the one mentioned in this article but which doesn't have a release date)?
(2) The Yakuza 3 set in feudal Japan will never be released in the U.S. market? Was it any good? (for those of you who picked it up as an import and somehow can listen/understand Japanese)

I ask b/c I've always been meaning to pick up Yakuza 2 whenever it comes out...I thought that the whole affair had been canned for the U.S. market but it appears that it's actually coming after all these years, it's pre-orderable from Amazon:

You kind of answer your own question on Yakuza 2. It is coming. We just don't write PS2 stuff here... otherwise you would've seen tons of Persona 4 stuff all over the blog.
Anyway, for the other two... if Y2 is any indication... it looks like things will be slow. Very slow if any of those games come to US.

Ok...yeah, just looking for a confirmation.
Word on the street (at least several years ago) was that Yakuza 2 was *never* coming to the U.S. that's what makes this announcement that much more confusing, the way the article is written makes it sound like it did make it to the U.S. market.
