had this on VHS, bought the movies again separately on DVD then bought them together in a DVD box set. . . I should have seen this coming. *sigh* I guess I might as well by the Blu-ray now.
xcrunk @ Jul 3rd 2008 10:09AM
I don't know.....that's nearly $30 a flick.
I don't care about extras...I never watch them.
halebound00 @ Jul 3rd 2008 10:19AM
Must......resist..........preordering. The spirit is willing..... but the flesh is spongy and bruised. Screw it, I am ordering it now.
RC @ Jul 3rd 2008 10:30AM
Damn, there goes 90 bucks
Paul (PSN: heypaul) @ Jul 3rd 2008 10:32AM
I hate that Blu-ray border. It always ruins the boxart. It makes it look just as cheap as the yellow Platinum Hits border. Now that they're the only hi-def format, why not just clear cases like with PS3 games?
reson8er @ Jul 3rd 2008 10:45AM
I know what you mean, but I think they try to differentiate the cases to avoid any possible confusion when HDDVD was a format (lol). Remember that HDDVD had those red cases, which were far uglier. In retail, its a very clear and easy way for the consumer to pick out a Blu-ray movie from an HDDVD or even DVD of the same title.
I agree though, clear or black would be much much better.
Dan @ Jul 3rd 2008 11:09AM
A clear smoke/black look would definitely make the boxart much nicer and hot. The blu look definitely kills the looks right now. Especially on this godfather art the whole blue casing kills the feeling..a see through black or smoke color would definitely be perfect.
uh-oh polio @ Jul 3rd 2008 10:37AM
Would this be possible to now put on a single dual layer blu-ray disc?
Dan @ Jul 3rd 2008 11:03AM
With each film brought up to 1080p resolution the amount of space needed on a disc will be much greater. Theres no way they would fit all three movies and extras on one dual layer disc.
Dan @ Jul 3rd 2008 11:06AM
I thought I was one of the few that hated that also, it does really kill the looks of the boxes. And since HDDVD is dead they can pretty much use any color now, which as you both said, the clear or black look. Which in my opinion a clear-black smoke look would look hot.
Ferdasyn @ Jul 3rd 2008 11:10AM
Dear god, I'd love this. I have a trilogy box set, but the picture and sound isn't all that great, despite it being 'remastered.' Maybe once the price comes down a bit.
farfisa @ Jul 3rd 2008 2:22PM
Totally know what you mean about the DVD set. It was the first thing I put on when I got my first HDTV and I was wondering if I should have bought those Monster cables the guy was pushing after all (kidding!).
The Blu-ray set sounds amazing--I'm sure I'll be able to sneak a peak in-store first!
PSPDog @ Jul 3rd 2008 11:13AM
I have the trilogy on DVD, and while I'd like the blu-ray version, the ps3 upscales it good enough.
Rodrigo @ Jul 3rd 2008 11:47AM
screw the godfather, bring scarface and blood in blood out on blu and you got a deal.
Dub @ Jul 3rd 2008 1:41PM
Guh? Dude, I hate it to break it to you, but Scarface kind of sucks...
CANADA36O @ Jul 3rd 2008 12:15PM
I want American History X on Blu Ray :(
Dub @ Jul 3rd 2008 1:41PM
I, too, once loved American History X. Watch 8 1/2 and Seven Samurai, though, and then you'll find the use of black and white pretentious and annoying and realize that it's at least an hour too long. Plus Ed Norton (I'm going to get killed for this one) can't act his way out of a paper bag.
Back on topic, The Godfather Part II is the greatest film ever made. I don't have an hdtv, and already have the dvd box set, but screw it, I'll get this just because it's too sweet.
Matt @ Jul 3rd 2008 2:33PM
I said it before and I will say it again. Godfather = suckage and overrated. Worst yet, I live in Philly where want-to-be-italians (know as Sicilians - note: Sicilians are not Italian) quote this stupid movie non-stop.
OAKside @ Jul 3rd 2008 2:53PM
Sounds like you're just annoyed by your locals. Godfather II is a fantastic film all-around, esp. for its time.
This set looks unbelievable (a bit expensive, though) and the box art rocks. Sure, the blue case kinda ruins the photo, but in person they always look much better.
Dub @ Jul 3rd 2008 5:53PM
Ooh, tough guy internet gangsta, huh? Try spouting that nonsense to anyone who's ever produced, directed, written, acted in, worked on, or even seen a film. Better yet, how about you leave your parents basement for a day and tell those "want-to-be-Italians" what you think about their history, culture, and cinematic achievements.
Or, third option, you could actually watch the movie and stop quoting what other internet gangstas who think they're hard but haven't seen the film say on imdb and rotten tomatoes.
Parts 1 and 2 are the epitome of perfection in cinema. Go cry to Annapolis again.
Shahryar @ Jul 4th 2008 1:49AM
Damn, I've never seen any of the Godfathers. It's been on my "to watch" list forever though. Looks like I'm waiting til at least September 23rd to watch it. I want to get a good deal on it though.
btw - speaking of good blu-ray deals, my Gotham Knight just shipped from Warnerbros and will be arriving on the release date (July 8th). My price on that was $18.86.
My Justice League Season 1 on blu-ray ships in August when its released and the price on that was $33 after my discount and free shipping.
