PS3 version of BioShock to be 'optimized' by Digital Extremes
Usually, things go sour when the original developer of a game opts not to develop it for another platform. Case in point: the late-to-arrive EA-ported version of The Orange Box. A statement released by 2K Games reaffirms that development of the upcoming PS3 version of BioShock will be "assisted" by Digital Extremes (Unreal Championship, Dark Sector).
James Schmalz, CEO and founder of Digital Extremes had this to say in the press release: "You really can't ask for a more exciting, technically impressive world to work in than Rapture, and the incredible knowledge and talent between the 2K studios and our team at Digital Extremes is unprecedented. The collaboration on this project will make the PLAYSTATION 3 system sing with Big Daddy goodness and Little Sister 'thank you's'."
We're still hopeful for the PS3 version of this modern classic -- especially because it will reportedly have new content for PS3 owners. So long as this content isn't a "worse framerate," we'll be happy. We're counting on you Digital Extremes.

Really? Every reviewer that matters seems to think different, but why listen to people who criticize things for a living. O wait you didn't get the memo?

I love predictable people. Do you mean you didn't like it? Would that would be more accurate? Since saying it was a sucking game would obviously be a lie on a global scale. Good thing your not in charge of anything important for Sony.

You're way off the mark buddy. I hate SP shooters and I couldn't put this game down! Those of you that haven't played it on 360 or PC owe it to yourselves to at least rent it when it hits PS3. With extra content, I may even trade in my 360 copy and pick up the PS3 version.

So that's mean the game is using another game engine instead of UE3? Nah, I don't think so but how knows...
ymmv @ Jul 3rd 2008 2:27PM
It will use UE3. Digital Extremes have already done their own UE3 based game: Dark Sector.

"So long as this content isn't a "worse framerate," we'll be happy."
Hahaha, good one.

@ghettomex
this game doesn't suck i had it on the 360 and it was the best game last year period and i would buy it again for the ps3 with new content. If you hadn't played it before please don't comment on something you know nothing of just wait till the game comes out then give your opinion.
ghettomex @ Jul 3rd 2008 2:36PM
i have played it
and it sucks
thank you!
Gemini Ace @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:43PM
I played it and I hated it.
Peter Vazkey @ Jul 3rd 2008 2:49PM
optimized? all that means is that it has to be downgraded.
mixel @ Jul 3rd 2008 5:15PM
No it doesn't.
It just means they'll be using the hardware better. The PC version performs better than the 360 version. Perhaps with more optimisation the 360 version could've been nicer looking too.
Same applies for the PS3. All they're trying to get across is they're using the hardware optimally rather than just throwing the code across without any consideration for the *very* different CPU architectures.

I really don't see Bioshock coming out as poor game on the PS3..
Would make no sense.
DavidJuaquin @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:36PM
This game was great and I can't wait to have it for my ps3. The ending does suck though.
Hunts314 @ Jul 3rd 2008 5:45PM
agreed, I loved the game, but the ending didn't do it for me.

Console nubs... Digital Extremes is critically acclaimed for the Unreal Tournament series... except Unreal Tournament 3. I haven't checked all the credits but I believe that Digital Extremes had nothing to do with UT3. Unreal Championship was a good game (port of UT2003 (infact its technically the other way around)) and Unreal Championship 2 was even better...
Dark Sector was dry... really dry... its an ok game but very dry. So, what do we expect for Bioshock PS3? WHO THE UFKC CARES! 1 its Bioshock... games that try to hard by throwing gay features at you but suck at the most important aspect of the primary genre they are.
Then the whole "I'm pretty but if I wasn't people would see how much I suck" spiel.

Why do people keep perpetuating the misconception that Orange Box on the PS3 isn't good?
It's a damn good game...and my reference point is having played it on a gaming rig when first released for the PC. Sure the framerate drops once in a while, but for the most part, Orange Box on the PS3 is a kick ass title.
