Resident Evil 5 producer teases co-op mode
UGO has landed an interview with Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi to discuss the upcoming survival horror sequel. Takeuchi begins by defending the RE5 team's decision to use Africa as a backdrop, insisting it is not a race issue. In fact, Chris will not even leave Africa for the entirety of the game. Gameplay-wise, he tells us in the current version of the game, it will allow you to "switch weapons in real time but we can't 100% confirm that that's how the final game will end up." Another gameplay element highlighted is destructible environments -- seemingly safe hiding places can be eliminated by getting knocked down.
Takeuchi also speaks of utilizing next-gen console technology to create "bright, outdoor environments" with an "action-based, a different kind of horror." Quick-time events will also remain in the game, but will "be much more active." Takeuchi then teases everyone by glancing at a PR representative when asked about a co-op mode and responding with "Right now I don't have anything to say about that. All I can say is just wait for E3." He is right, we can't wait for E3 to find out more!

I have an idea. How about "move-and-shoot-at-the-same-time" mode? Or: "make-use-of-the-right-analog-stick" mode?

If using Africa as background means racism , then BioHazard 1-3 imply Japanese racism against Caucasian? Sometime people can be ridiculously sensitive over little things.

Stupidest comment ever. You clearly don't understand.
Motobeast18 @ Jul 3rd 2008 8:11PM
Trey....You're "clearly" butthurt over this stupid topic.
The GAME is set in Africa. Big woop! It's a goddamn GAME!
They can make WW1, WW2, and The Iraq War games were you shoot Caucasians and Iraqis, but they're not allowed to shoot Africans? Get over it.
ClarkyCat @ Jul 3rd 2008 8:17PM
Oh God, the game is turning into Gears after all...
*sobs for survival horror*
Trey @ Jul 3rd 2008 8:37PM
@Motobeast18
i have a personal question for you. what nationality are you?
if you answer this question. then it will all make sense.

I can understand why some looked at this game as racism....A white man in a military suit going around and shooting blacks. I mean it wasn't long ago (1960's) where whites were shooting and hanging blacks for the fun of it.
I laugh when people bring up Resident Evil 4. "People didn't complain when Leon was killing Spaniards". Last time I checked, Spaniards are white
Reymo @ Jul 3rd 2008 10:31PM
Im Hispanic and I do not like racism..but come on this is stupid. Everyone likes to make taco jokes, collard green jokes, and saltine (cracker) jokes but when it hits the national entertainment scope "its wrooong". BTW since when have Spaniards been white? Just because of the color of their skin, they are more ethnic than most of the people here in the US who abandoned their heritage to be something they are not.
W/e it doesnt matter, GOD himself couldnt make ignorant people understand..
Reymo @ Jul 3rd 2008 10:34PM
Something i did not mention..its a form of entertianment, not a strike against any race. Its a game, just like a movie that portrays racism, and murder. I think we should pull all of the tasteless movies and books that display this hate and garbage..right?
J Swayze @ Jul 3rd 2008 11:27PM
Reymo
Spaniards are white
b-way @ Jul 4th 2008 12:15AM
Yeah, Spaniards are white dude. The skin pigment didn't come till they went to the New World and got married there.
Reymo @ Jul 4th 2008 10:14AM
I meant even though their skin pigment is white does not make them white. I understand they are apart of europe..but, so is Italy and some Arabic areas do you consider them white as well?
I just want to know why you guys think they are white. Provide more than "because they are from europe". Because you can be black and born in europe or arabic and so on.
JaseH @ Jul 4th 2008 4:27PM
Reymo, sush. I'm half Spanish, and the whole Spanish side of my family is WHITE.
The color of their skin is WHITE. Because they are WHITE. Mexicans... are not white. Spaniards, are.
Get over it. I would know my own blood. Oh and btw, people from Europe are diverse... although, they are white to begin with. The climate merely "changes" their skin pigment. It's not genetic, like say.. an African American being black

Oh man... there are so many things wrong with most of the posts here... even if they make good points.
First of all, who said US Citizens gave up their heritage? My dad happens to have slaved over my family's geneology and we know EXACTLY where we have come from, how we came from there, we we left from wherever we were, and what time it happened. My family comes from ALL over Europe. But guess what? I'm an American citizen. And Just because we don't have "one" culture does not mean we don't have a heritage or culture. The American culture IS diversity. Just because you damn Europeans are jealous does not mean you have to hate us.
Next, this is a GAME. A GAME people. I will enjoy shooting those African Zombies JUST AS MUCH as I enjoyed shooting the American Zombies or the friggin spaniard zombies. This doesn't mean I am racist against ANYONE one. I'm racist... AGAINST ZOMBIES. Good hell you all are dumb. Drop this whole "I smell racism" garbage and just enjoy shooting the crap out of violent, flesh eating zombies. Hell, I will pop in RE2 and shoot the hell out of every American cop on the game and not feel guilty if it makes you guys feel better. Then I will play COD World at War and become a German shooting every US Marine I see. IT'S A GAME!!!!!!!!!
Bewoulf @ Jul 5th 2008 1:10PM
There is so much wrong with so much of what you guys are saying that it's sad.
First of all, who said Americans gave up their Heritage? I know many Americans who know full well what their heritage is. Just because they fled a corrupt Europe does not mean they don't respect the better parts of it. By your definition, are most asians, mexicans, Irish, Africans, Russians, Spaniards, French, British, German (list goes on) people that come to America to live (for whatever reason they come to live) rejecting, forgetting, or disrespecting their heritage? If you say yes than I say you should seriously visit the country for the first time. 'Cause you have not even set foot on the soil. My dad has nearly got my family geneology finished, and guess what? He knows where my family was from in Europe, he knows the dates they lived in certain countries in Europe, and he knows when we came to America. I know my heritage. Do you know when your first family went to mexico? Or Spain? Or wherever you're from? I hope so, or you're just being a huge hypocrite.
Next of all, who cares if we're shooting black zombies, white zombies, Asian zombies, or even Jewish zombies. THEY'RE ZOMBIES!! And it's a video game!! I would understand everyone's uproar if they made a game about a White slave owner and you had to go find and abuse black slaves, but this is a zombie game. I feel like popping in RE2 and shooting every American Cop zombie I see.
Hell, I will get COD World at War and play as a German shooting Americans. Good hell it's a video game. It's not real, it's fake. This doesn't mean I want to shoot US Marines, it doesn't mean I want to really be shooting zombies for real (I'd rather not be in a situation with zombies), but I do it PURELY for enjoyment.
Repeat after me. It's a game.
Bewoulf @ Jul 5th 2008 1:19PM
I for one am excited to play this game. Africa has so many diverse and interesting beliefs, I hope the developer has done their homework and would maybe show how the people of Africa might explain the zombie situation from their religion. I know when they were first showing off RE5 there was a rumor it was going to take place in the country that first started the whole Zombie legend. That, to me, sounds cool.
gundisalv @ Aug 30th 2008 9:19PM
spaniards are from clet.iberian, roman and germanic peoples (suebi, vandal and visigoth) and through time they even after the moorish invasion which was only a religious one they became spaniards! they are european and some may be lighter than other. yes that is the whole of europe now a days! there is nordic, alpine and mediterranean in all european countries! the spaniards are of the white race there shouldnt be a question about that!
