Codemasters not planning on adding trophies to GRID
Codemasters is, sadly, the latest developer to be added to the list of those who won't be adding trophy support to their already released titles. On the official GRID forums an administrator has posted saying that they're "currently not planning to restrospectively support PSN trophies - it;s not a trivial thing to add to a game" [sic]. Though this is disappointing, it's not too unexpected. Third party games are the least likely to be patched in. With Criterion showing their contemporaries, hopefully more will decide to rake in the goodwill of gamers by following suit.

If they DID add trophies I would probably buy there game, they're being stupid
Slade @ Jul 4th 2008 5:48PM
i whould buy it also if it has trophies, but o well
PSPDog @ Jul 4th 2008 7:13PM
I agree with you guys. I was on the fence on getting this game, and trophies would have pushed me over to the buy side. Oh, well.
nahworry @ Jul 4th 2008 9:15PM
Same here, won't happen now. And, i bet they've got achievements implemented in the 360 version, that's what makes their comment smell bitter. And it's not like they couldn't have seen this feature coming, or is it?
Averna @ Jul 4th 2008 9:34PM
I ended up deciding to wait for Midnight club. Im happy with the demo for grid anyway.
I might get it down the line, but meh.
Ayman @ Jul 5th 2008 7:14AM
I bought the game when it was released.
I see irony in this
considering you have to win trophies in the game in order to go up the score board in driver, team, and so on, just to finish the game.
bayn @ Jul 4th 2008 5:22PM
Can't blame them, but lets hope the add them to all future titles.
Except for MGS4... that one needs tropies :D
bayn @ Jul 4th 2008 5:24PM
*Trophies...
Jerses @ Jul 4th 2008 5:23PM
i was kinda expecting this from devs... they are lazy porting games, making use of the cell processor and now they are lazy adding trophies... how hard is it to port trophies to a game that its on the xbox360 too? i mean...you can just change the name Archivments to... trophies!
mixel @ Jul 4th 2008 7:54PM
Ahaha.. Yeah, that's the most hilarious over-simplification i've heard in a looong time.
Extinction @ Jul 4th 2008 9:10PM
Except it's true, you'd just change the function call, and change say 10 gamerpoints to bronze, 20 to silver, etc
mixel @ Jul 4th 2008 9:28PM
No it's not, Extinction.. It'd be that simple if both systems had similar hardware, and we were talking about a game thats not already available.
*But this game is already burnt to discs with its development cycle long complete..* , who knows how much of the game is installed to HD, the patching could be really quite intensive depending on how each game loads its data in-game, and numerous other factors.
Its not just a case of swapping the words over when the programming hasn't been done to cater for this in the first place, they don't just port the code over between consoles, massive chunks (potentially all of it) will be completely different on each system.
Not only that but they have a different number of points to allocate, a different number of possible achievement/trophies, they have to QA test that everything works right.. they have to potentially employ an artist to draw 2D trophies and potentially make 3D ones for HOME too..
This is a lot of man hours of work. I'm not saying they shouldn't have been prepared for it, but there are some pretty legit reasons for why they might not be.
dogboy @ Jul 4th 2008 5:33PM
Codemasters, add a trophie is very simple...Put your "dirt" shit in your ass.
browntown @ Jul 4th 2008 5:28PM
I expect some other games to get trophies, i know bioshock will have them, hopefully the ea sports games will too. I hope sega adds them to valkyrie chronicles.
DEEZ @ Jul 4th 2008 5:36PM
It's too bad Sony didn't have all this figured out before they released the ps3. All the blame should be pointed at Sony for their lack of having the system ready for developers to implement these trophy achievements.
Meanwhile all the fanboys are crying about them not having them in older titles....phssssh...freaking fanboy cryers. LOL.
Shashwat @ Jul 4th 2008 9:57PM
I see his comment has been marked down by people. However he is right. If we as gamers continue to be loyal servants of corporations then this is gonna happen.
I believe Sony should force all developers to institute trophies into all PS3 games in the coming weeks. However they should compensate the developers for the manhours it takes to patch trophies. They have a broken system with developers opting out of creating trophies. Thus it is Sony's responsibility to make the developers patch them and Sony should compensate them for their effort. I just want Sony to force all developers to patch it and we as gamers should demand it of Sony. They need to show a bit of muscle. It may hurt a bit to developers but in the end it helps us gamers. If Sony wants to create a working trophy system they can't make half a trophy system.
Eggy @ Jul 5th 2008 2:27AM
What a load of tripe nowhere on the box of the PS3 it was mentioned that there would be trophy support. Be glad that they're adding all these features that only a small but extremely vocal minority want.
VipeNess @ Jul 4th 2008 5:45PM
u know, i think the developer are just plain damn lazy and now that they made their money, they won't do anything else for consumers. pretty sad. that is why i wont buy this game. you dont support us i dont support you.
Phoenix8387 @ Jul 4th 2008 5:49PM
I wonder if they'll patch Overlord, seeing as how its only a couple weeks old they really have not excuse for that.
ToXicDecree @ Jul 4th 2008 5:50PM
This sucks, huess were gonna have to do with SSDHD for now. Ive got 11 trophies so far. Their pretty hard to get. Anyways add me PSN: ToXicDecree
Slade @ Jul 4th 2008 5:53PM
what other games have trophies that u can get right now besides stardust
ToXicDecree @ Jul 4th 2008 5:55PM
Guess*
Slade @ Jul 4th 2008 6:03PM
guess.. lmao
KUV1977 @ Jul 4th 2008 5:51PM
I was close to buying this. The lack of split screen made me not do so... Trophies would have meant that small extra push for me to buy it...
if i had the choice I'd go for split screen, though.
leatherface @ Jul 4th 2008 6:00PM
no tickee no laundry . i would have bought the game if they would have the trophies patched to it.
maxpontiac @ Jul 4th 2008 6:04PM
Another game missing an opportunity to get more life out of their game, and more SALES.
Makes alot of sense...
Hotrod @ Jul 4th 2008 6:15PM
Same here fellas, I too would have bought it if it was going to be patched.
Meanwhile, the SSHD is enjoying their increase in sales, and rightfully so. I hope they post figures of their sales increase since the release of the trophies update, it could motivate others companies to patch their games.
dave @ Jul 4th 2008 6:36PM
i reported this on my blog a 2 days ago :P

acidwolvers @ Jul 4th 2008 7:01PM
Devs need to get off their lazy asses and patch their games. Although, I can't help but think this is Sony's fault as well, they probably told them not to worry about something like trophies and as such coded the games so that there would be no way to patch it (not intentionally but why code for something that's not gonna be there?).
Cidi @ Jul 4th 2008 7:07PM
I don`t really care about trophies, but with comments like "it;s not a trivial thing to add to a game" from a developer I would say then they should also stop to build in achievements because they are also very trivial.
I guess I know now why the most achievements (not all Simpson has good ones :D ) are just crap and useless, in the meaning of to easy, way to hard or just plain stupid, because apperently they don`t really care about it besides that they are forced to implement them.
I still prefer stuff that can be unlocked in games like Assasins Creed Costume in MGS4. If you link trophies to something like that then I`m fine with it. Like each Badge in MGS4 is one trophie then that`s ok for me. If they are just like shoot x amount of people online and don`t get anything in-game for it then i don`t need them.
vasago @ Jul 4th 2008 7:14PM
To be honest i dont really care to much about the trophies all i want is for a half decent RPG to be realesed in europe But i wont hold my breath
BSTKiller @ Jul 4th 2008 7:56PM
So...SONY says they would give FULL support and assistance to any dev that wants to patch a game...they also indicated that their tools allow it to be quick and relatively painless...then you have CODEMASTERS saying it isn't trivial.
So which is it?
I too have been on the fence between GRID and Burnout.
linton @ Jul 4th 2008 8:11PM
I like the fact Sony brings things out over time, makes getting them sweet n exciting, I've always been a believer in 'good things come to those who wait', and trophies will come to be one of those things worth waiting for, whats the point in devs patching a relatively old game for the sake of 'icons' in the shape of a trophy, may as well wait for the new game/s they'll be working on. same goes for this 2.40 update - its not the last FW update as there's still loads more to come , We as PS3 owners are getting a sweet deal - its just spread out more.
HESA1 @ Jul 5th 2008 3:21AM
Battlefield: Bad Company is new game. I really hope it will be patched. People should write to DICE and ask for trophies.
Terry Newhook @ Jul 4th 2008 8:43PM
What do you guys think are the odds of trophies for Assassin's Creed and The Orange Box? I want to finish AC and start TOB but if I knew they were getting trophies, I'd wait.
ducttapeBigSexy @ Jul 5th 2008 2:39AM
I highly doubt adding in trophies would be too difficult. If it was that difficult, they wouldn't have been able to make a 360 version. Admit it - you just don't want to have to do any more work you won't get paid for.
But, who cares - when I picked up my PS3, I was debating between this and RR7. RR7 was far cheaper and actually supports split screen... not to mention more fun too :)
mixel @ Jul 5th 2008 3:36AM
I don't understand why people are having trouble with the difference betweeb a patch and the "made that way from inception" thing..
Its no easier to do them on 360 than it is on PS3, but it's not necessarily all that easy to shoehorn them into games which are already burnt onto BD, potentially with only a few GBs of game data installed to hdd. - they can't overwrite stuff on the BD, obviously, so all sorts of variables come up. A lot of potential for extra programming, trophy art.. etc.. They're really not being that lazy unless they had a developer version of 2.40 throughout GRID's entire dev cycle, or docs explaining how everything would work in advance..
I really think they're doing their best, they'll already be working hard on new projects which *will* support trophies.
Certain giant profile games really should get them though, MGS4 and GTA4 particularly.
guerra @ Jul 4th 2008 10:22PM
It's very sad. If I Knew that yesterday I didn't get this game. I'm feeling disappointed. I think it's not a big deal to then. Any intern could convert the Archievements to Trophies in a blink of eye.
Greg @ Jul 5th 2008 12:15AM
Lazy developers... they just want our money and after FCUK OFF !!!
Andrew @ Jul 5th 2008 9:43AM
Agreed, I was seriously considering buying this game. But this pretty much puts an end to that. I will probably get burnout instead, they are doing fantastic with the constant updates, plus they said they will definitely be adding trophies in the future.
MakaiOokami @ Jul 5th 2008 10:26AM
I say if they don't want to add trophies we just boycott the games. Not too big of a thing really. I will personally send them an email to their "contact us" page stating that not including trophy support tells me that they aren't willing to stand by their games like the competition does. I also propose boycotting Activision for their lack of DLC on Guitar Hero while "whoring" out titles like there is no tomorrow. Why should we buy games if they're just going to release new games rather than improve older ones. Why should we pay 2.50 for a song we can get on Rock Band (which is updated more often) and only get 1 instrument to play with instead of 4. Why shoudl we buy Guitar Hero III, Aerosmith, World Tour, and Metallica when we should be getting DLC.
Who's with me NO GAME SUPPORT = NO CUSTOMERS
Steve @ Jul 5th 2008 10:32AM
I would also consider buing the game if they added trophy support. Why don't they see it as a potential sales increase.
Wallamania @ Jul 5th 2008 1:27PM
Im not the slightest bit worried about trophys, havent even got firmware 2.40 my ps3 is still 2.30
