Capcom: No trophy support for Devil May Cry 4

A poster on Capcom Unity's forums has received an answer to the question of whether Devil May Cry 4 and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will be getting the trophy treatment and it is no. Capcom feels that DMC4 already has "its own little trophylike system" and the Puzzle Fighter team has moved on to other projects.
There is a tiny bit of good news though, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix may have trophies implemented, but it will depend on "what schedules look like and what Sony's requirements are." The only real good news is future games from Capcom will all have trophies, as it has "been worked into CEI's developer contracts as a required deliverable." Have other publishers signed such a contract?

This is rather disappointing, but after a string of such reports, we are not surprised. We are just really hoping SSF2T HD Remix will have support.

Yeah it's disappointing that developers are not giving two shits about the trophy system. Maybe if there is a huge spike in sales for Super Stardust HD, it will show them that it is what the people want.
Chris @ Jul 5th 2008 8:01PM
Come on, as if. "Ooh, this game lets me brag to my friends. WOW!" It's not a software sales point; it's a PS3 sales point. Not that I think it'll sway anyone...
favian @ Jul 5th 2008 7:12PM
eh, i dont really care. i never cared about achievements on the 360 or trophies on the ps3. trophies last on my list of requested features. the days when i had whole afternoons to find every last star in a video game are long gone.

MexicanTerrorist @ Jul 5th 2008 7:18PM
Why the f*** does every dev hate trophies?
Syn @ Jul 5th 2008 8:48PM
The same reason I hate trophies. They are pointless!
Double @ Jul 5th 2008 9:13PM
^ By that reasoning: Video games are pointless.
TinyTim121 @ Jul 5th 2008 10:26PM
@ MexicanTerrorist
Because developers have to put in extra cash/work to make trophies work on their game by creating a patch. And developers hate "wasting" money because the patch won't make them any revenue. It's a shame but would you actually pay for a patch to have trophies work?
Ptrack_Git @ Jul 5th 2008 7:18PM
God damn it! I don't care if your going to skimp us on trophy's (well I do, but whatever...), but at least patch my old games so I can use the in game music!!! That goes for all of you Capcom, Insomniac, Infinity Ward, Codemasters. Patch for the duelshock, patch the music! @#$&%!!!!!
Slade @ Jul 5th 2008 7:22PM
guess i cant buying this game either
Moe @ Jul 5th 2008 7:25PM
Damn man I was just thinking about this a few hours ago. Since DMC4 notes on the network what you unlocked I was hoping they would be retroactive. Now I have no reason to keep playing the game past Son of Sparda mode.
Carl @ Jul 5th 2008 7:28PM
It sucks that these companies only care about money. How hard can it be to put trophies in...They aren't a huge deal too me, but I still think older games that put them in ala uncharted can get on the fence buyers. Sony needs to demand all new games have it period and encourage/help old ones put it in. As it is now I think higher of the guys that due (put them in) shows they care for those that supported thier game.
Chris @ Jul 5th 2008 7:33PM
Achievements was one reason I *didn't* get a 360. Trophies I really do not care about. What I care about is not having silly little animations and noises popping up mid game because I accidentally did some completely irrelevant, mundane task. Anyone else with me?
favian @ Jul 5th 2008 7:50PM
yeah absolutely, i do not care about trophies/achievements, they were only implemented into the ps3 to make 360 fanboys stfu. i can't see anyone above 18 years of age caring about achievements/trophies.
and @ carl. its called resources, paying people to implement features is not cheap, not to mention the time it takes to write the code in.
sony, focus on making the online experience more streamlined. i want to be able to invite anyone on my friends list into a game from ingame. invite multiple people from an xmb, i want to be prompted to read a new psn message as soon as they arrive instead of scrolling all the way to the message inbox. i want a chat session to launch only when the other person has accepted the chat request so i'm not sitting there like a fool waiting for them to accept (they may not even be around) bluetooth headsets must be included with every ps3, and socom should replace metal gear as the pack in game when it is released. EMPHASIZE THE ONLINE EXPERIENCE.
Chris @ Jul 5th 2008 7:58PM
Nice suggestions! Only, I don't agree about emphasizing online. SOCOM might not be that great (who knows?), and I'm a single player first gamer. I'd like to see Home, and maybe they should ditch their policy of not buying exclusivity.

I'm still waiting on MGS4 trophies. Then, and only then, will my life be complete.

hedpe @ Jul 5th 2008 8:04PM
haha yeah, at least we can rely on mgs4, and uncharted. uncharted is tight like a big titty holster top.
bayn @ Jul 5th 2008 8:03PM
You guys need to be blaming Sony, not the dev's.
If I told you to mow my lawn, then after you went home said hey, come back, I got a garden and need you to weed eat around the edges for free... would you do it?
Sony should of had this in place from the get go, dev's can still code to a spec if they know about it. The good news is all new games have trophies but you can't get upset at the old games, sometimes its just not that simple.
Eggy @ Jul 6th 2008 4:43AM
They should blame Sony for including a feature that seemingly alot of people wanted. Yeah that makes sense.
I also don't understand the need of writing a new blog article for every game that won't or will support trophies.
Jonathan @ Jul 6th 2008 11:33AM
They stole this Trophy idea from 360.
360 had this since it launched way before PS3.
They had plenty of time to include this feature so that it wasn't implemented so late.
The original poster makes sense, your reply makes no sense as a reply to him, or on it's own.
DEEZ @ Jul 5th 2008 8:16PM
Again...the blame should be pointed at SONY for the lack of having this shit ready in the first place.

People who say they don't care about Trophies or Achievements are people that don't have any online friends. As soon as you are comparing yourself to your online friends, you will want to get points everywhere you can to get ahead of them!
Also, I have decided not to buy a game that doesn't have trophy support. I don't think I'm alone here either!
Slade @ Jul 5th 2008 8:59PM
your not!!!

I don't see how a moderator at forums translates to Capcom itself.

Never cared about trophies that is why i bought a ps3 a year and half ago. So i have enjoyed the ps3 without them for this long without a problem. Therefore the whole trophy thing is just bonus can't complain about bonuses.
JayFight @ Jul 5th 2008 10:32PM
ok i agree that for the most part trophies/achievments are pointless but only if they are something stupid like "yay you beat level one Achiement, yay you beat level 2 Achievment" but if their something cool like "you beat level 2 in such&such time with such&such kills one hard mode with no specials and other such things" then yeah i love achiements i don't go out and buy or rent games just so i can get all the achievments BUT i'll play it long after i've finished for them like this one football game i saw my brother playing it's like you get 10 touchdowns "Achievement" you get 10 passes "Achievement" and so on till you get all 10 and that sucks but dead or alive 4 is great i still haven't gotten the 80 kills in survival and tag survival though i have gotten close and i still want it that makes for a great achievement and thats what i want something to lengthen the life of the game and push me to be a better player not something that holds my hand and gives me a lollipop for doing the stuff i'm supposed to do things i was going to do anyways that right there is a steaming pile of BS and i hope game developers read this and pay attention remember don't make BS achievements make real challanges out of them something that takes the game to the next level
linebeginstoblur @ Jul 5th 2008 11:51PM
We now have a large list of games that will not support Trophies, while we still, to this day, have only one game to actively support them. The whole idea of Trophies is starting to just seem really embarrassing on Sony's part and, though I got really excited about it at first, it doesn't really seem like it's worth it anymore. Before any more games support it, Sony should just cancel it as if it never happened.
James @ Jul 6th 2008 12:04AM
I'm surprised that Sony isn't going to these major third party game developers like IW and CoD4 and saying "Hey we know we should have had it for you guys at launch but this is the best we could do, we'll cover for your development time and more"
But they aren't even doing that with in house developers like Insomniac..Maybe I'm being a little naive when I think this is how the industry works, I have no clue, but it makes sense.
Mattchewie @ Jul 6th 2008 2:41AM
Actually the one thing nice about trophies is that it does give some certain incentive to go and play the game again. I'm not a "I need them all!!!" type of guy but its fun at least to play through and just see how many you can get.
DMC4 is pretty much a play it and then your done game. If trophy support was around, it would be a bit of icing on the cake.
MakaiOokami @ Jul 6th 2008 3:33AM
For any game released I think releasing a patch for DMC 4 would be the best title to do so for. It would only strengthen their reputation and more importantly would there be a single game that could be patched and not have copies sold? I doubt it.
I think even Sonic the Hedgehog would get sales simply for having trophies even if it was 40-50 dollars.
vask @ Jul 6th 2008 3:38AM
All these rejections to patches are really making this 2.4 update look useless. From what i read it only takes less than half a day to make a patch for trophies, I'm looking to trade all these games i have in since i no longer plan on playing them anymore, especially now knowing that they will never get trophy support. The trophies/achievements give me more incentive to play the games again by throwing me those little challenges here and there and keeping me interested. I guess Dev's don't want to increase the replay value to their games for something as little as a trophy patch.
iNZoW @ Jul 6th 2008 3:56AM
I gave up on collecting achievements for SCORE long time ago. I only try getting achievements for games that i really love or games have hard ones that you'd be very proud when showing them to your friends. I think Guitar Hero 2 & 3 did it best.
sibbor @ Jul 6th 2008 4:44AM
Devil May Cry 4 already got the "Accomplishment" system implemented already. So I don't think Capcom should be so damn arrogant against the Trophy system; they can simply just port their Accomplishments to the new Trophy system! It would be a MUCH MORE genuine solution.
I've got no clue whatsoever on how Sony's developer kits works, but if Sony bundles samples etc., then I don't really see an issue here. DMC4 got the accomplishments, port them! The same applies to many other third party games, where the developers ported the PS3 game from a X360 game - where the X360 game always got support for Achievements. Since they do, goals and triggers is already implemented within the X360 engine of the game - simply just port that over to the PS3 game and re-balance it for a perfect fit!
In this particular case I would love to see Trophy support. I loved DMC4, but now I've stopped playing it because I've ran trough the game (once...). The only thing that could get me trough the WHOLE game again would be Trophies. Now listen to your dear customers, Capcom!!
sibbor @ Jul 6th 2008 4:49AM
Although we can still hope that Capcom releases a trophy patch, since the moderator, Sven, used the word "unlikely" - which means "there's a chance, but small" in my ears...
Also I f*cking hope they patch Trophies into Commando 3, which I bought yesterday of PSN. All PSN games should have trophies! That would certainly made them more valueable.
BobbyQBobby @ Jul 8th 2008 12:22AM
Well why don't you get a XB360 with DMC4? You can play the game again and have achievements. Better yet, since you like trophies so much. Sell your PS3 and get a Xbox360. The 360 has a whole back catalog of games you can get achievements for that will extend the life of the game. I must say, that is one thing MS has gotten right.
FireLord91 @ Jul 6th 2008 7:27AM
I unlocked more DMC4 accomplishments because I thought they'd be trophies in future (that and I was bored). I'm disappointed because their "accomplishment" system is exactly like the trophy system.
Let's have a look:
Trophies are saved only when you are online.
Trophies have a little icon next to them.
Trophies are split up into bronze/silver/gold.
Accomplishments are saved only when you are online.
Accomplishments have a little icon next to them.
How hard could it be to split them into bronze, silver and gold? Honestly?
tojfs7931 @ Jul 6th 2008 10:40AM
looks like Sony made a shiny new toy and no one wants to play...
skin.bintin @ Jul 7th 2008 12:49AM
I guess this is what happens when Sony leaves out basic next gen features at launch. I wish they hadn't... but oh well.

Sony has failed, now trophies suck. End of story.

Devil may cry 4 + no trophies = garbage! devil may cry = garbage! If capcom wants playstation nation costumers then they've to get there head out of there asses, and make trophies godzilla damnit!
