Lempel has 'robust' Home on schedule, movie downloads soon

Expect the movie download service to get implemented into Home somehow, even though it's getting released in the US this Summer. No word on other regions or TV and music content -- but Sony will "offer everything [consumers] expect from us and probably a little bit more." He declined to discuss the potential for the PS3 to transfer said movies onto the PSP, which usually means it's going to happen in a big announcement at some big game developer event. Whatever those are. No promises!

I'll feel more confident when they have a date. I hope I can get in the extended beta, but I can wait until this November.
I don't know about movie downloads. It will really depend how that fast/easy that service is. Plus, I only have a 40GB.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I haven't really seen anything compelling about Home as of yet, maybe its because it reminds me so much of The Sims Online which wasn't much more than a glorified chatroom with avatars.

Agreed. +1.

i used to be excited for home but the excitement is long gone. I'll visit it whenever it comes out but I doubt I'll spend much time there.

So can anyone answer me this... What is Home? I mean I know what Home is, but what IS Home?
I'm really hoping that Home is an extension of the XMB. Sure you can't stream movies to friends from your XMB, but does anyone know if all the gaming features (creating rooms, invites, voice etc) that home will have already be implemented in the xmb? Is then Home an extension of the XMB, or is Home meant to be a replacement for the XMB.
I'm not sure I am getting my question across right without sounding like I've never heard of Home. =\ arg.
Stoo @ Jul 5th 2008 5:16PM
AFAIK there is the 3D home which is what everyone is going on about, and then alongside there will be a 2D home.
My understanding is that the 2D home will essentially be similar to the XMB system where will will see all the lobby and matchmaking facilities that we are after implemented in a 2D system. So an evolution of what we have now.
3D home will just be a 3D world where you can see a 3D manifestation of what you are navigating in a menu in 2D home, as well as fancy and (IMO) less interesting second life type stuff.
Basically Home = stuff we need and want finally coming, with an option to access the stuff in a 3D world if we are so inclined.
Thats my understanding anyway.

Home will be awesome. Playing the arcade games, talking to friends, customizing your own home space, being able to invite friends to games right from home, watching movies, viewing trophies, listening to music, seeing exclusive content from game shows like E3, etc. Can't wait for home, glad to hear it's still slated for this fall beta release!
As far as the movieservice, been wanting this since Xbox 360 rolled it out. I can't wait for this as well, should be great...and hopefully they'll actually put up better content than Microsoft because their movies mostly suck.

Home is probably one of my most anticipated releases of the PS3. It is the one I have been hanging over the heads of my 360 friends. Yeah, we will have a Home. Yeah, it's free. Yeah, we don't have to pay a monthly fee. You get the picture. Lately, they have been able to say, "So, is your Home still being built?", "Are you having problems with your Home contractor?". It is frustrating waiting on my Home to be built.
What is going on? Then again, I had rather them get it right rather than releasing a broken concept.
