PSP may have helped police catch multiple murderer
The last story we posted on, it appeared a PSP lead to a violent crime. We now have an even more violent story coming out of London; however, this time the PSP might have helped catch the murderer. The Sun reports that two 23-year old French post-graduate students shown above, Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez, were "bound, gagged and stabbed to death" in an apartment in London on Sunday night. The police believe they were tortured for the PIN numbers to their ATM cards. Bonomo was stabbed 196 times and Ferez was stabbed 47 times.
Fortunately, the police did have clues. They "established that two Sony PSPs are missing and believe they were taken during the incident on Sunday when the two men were killed." They also released one of the PSP's serial numbers, SO1-0613169-C. Today, a 21-year old man has been arrested in connection with the murders. It is unclear whether the serial number released helped solve the crimes, but it is good to hear a culprit has been apprehended in these grisly murders.
[Note: Due to the tabloid nature of the Sun, here is the BBC's take.]

I saw this story on the BBC news channel (in Canada) and I was only partly paying attention until they mentioned PSPs(!)... then I was like, "Wha????"... in the story, they went on to show stock pictures of a PSP, and talked about them quite a bit.
Scary story, bizarre PSP angle.

What the flying hell does this have to do with pspfanboy?!
This is a disturbing report more fit for THE SUN.
I didn't need to nor wanted to read an article of a murder case. This is the website I visit for VIDEO GAME information.
This is outrageously negative and redundantly out of place.
So it's been a slow news week don't take it out on your readers.

i hope they hear you

Having studied Forensic medicine, and being a med student who read about death everyday, this story did not shock me at all. It even seemed interesting (from a forensic perspective). However, I think for other readers, such stories are so gruesome to read on a video game website. 'PSPfanboy' is rather a 'PSPreporter' in that it reports anything with the PSP word in, including PSP dissing. That's a netural and unbiased reporting. Not that it's bad, but that's not fanboyism!
So I think you should make a good deal between you and the readers so that they don't end up pissed off. Also, please fix this terrible comment system!

i agree :( this is a horrible case and nothing has been solved as yet and i dont wanna read it about it again on this site because it has a tentative psp link :(
Holdon @ Jul 7th 2008 2:54AM
Could not agree more. This is not newsworthy or appropriate for PSPfanboy.
Josh @ Jul 5th 2008 11:49PM
Is that Keira Knightleys twin brother?
sally lee @ Jul 6th 2008 12:34AM
wow... i surprised. damn.
Trickob @ Jul 6th 2008 12:50AM
I think it's interesting... *looks confused*
the serial number probably helped because the person who stole it (and presumably killed the victim) must have sold it to a pawn shop or game exchange place and the shop owner had the info on the person who gave them the PSP.

I agree with Bibbly53. And the post about how the PSP led to a violent crime, well that's just a bunch of crap and it's a shame that the pspfanboy staff would say that. The crime had nothing to do with the PSP, the guy was fucking unstable that's what it is. You're supposed to promote the PSP, not give your readers 2nd thoughts about owning one.
Alien @ Jul 6th 2008 4:13AM
Wow ... that guy from the left looks a bit like me :P But man this was a brutal murder ... wtf 196 stabs :o
Rob Bourne @ Jul 6th 2008 6:11AM
They were set on fire too :|
c_judicator @ Jul 6th 2008 11:27AM
It sure is good to be in contact with current events once in a while. Regardless if it not video game info, its still somewhat interesting to read. Yay for PSP.
Bibbly53 @ Jul 6th 2008 2:14PM
I agree but only when the news sources are separated.
I'll go to CNN's website if I want that kind of coverage.
Would DSfanboy post an entry about the violent death of a young boy who just so happened to have a DS in his pocket with which he wrote his last words in pictochat?
Are you #!*%ing kidding me?!
This is totally irrelevant and to say the least, at this point I'm feeling a little bit trolled.
Lord Bowser @ Jul 6th 2008 1:44PM
I don't like this story, not at all. I avoid from Kotaku to get sensationalist claptrap like this, I don't really expect it from you guys. Come on, guys, you're better than this. The link is flimsy at best, in fact it's rather embarrassing.
It's almost as if you wish to profiteer of the horrific deaths of two young men. I hope that is not the case, Tsang.
cafecito @ Jul 6th 2008 2:12PM
The PSP should have a self-destruct mechanism for when it's stolen. So it blows up and kills the burglar along with his entire family.
JM @ Jul 7th 2008 10:49AM
Why don't you guys just, you know, not read the articles you don't want to read?
Also, I like that this article was posted if only to serve as proof that violence in fact happens in places other than America. Next time something violent happens in America and some snarky dick says "only in America", I can link them to this article.
Ted @ Jul 7th 2008 1:42PM
What I find interesting is that the two victims were stabbed 196 & 47 times. This seems personal, not like a robbery. Maybe it was more death by torture.
Sad.
