Looks last-gen...

Best series of online TPS ever !!
frankym @ Jul 5th 2008 1:45PM
The game looks pretty average in IMHO...graphics, movement, etc. look like PS2.
David @ Jul 5th 2008 2:08PM
Saying the game looks like a ps2 game is a bit too much. You remember how Socom used to look on ps2?

I'm not saying the game will be great. I for one don't like the way the characters move but that's to be expected from an online game showing online footage and not a scripted sequence. Still I don't think it's right to say the game looks like a ps2 because it's miles beyond what was achieved in the ps2 Socoms in terms of graphics.
nakedatthecomp @ Jul 5th 2008 3:38PM
the graphics look great, but the physics look like ps2... when someone's legs are doing a running motion, they should be going forwards, not sideways haha
Volomon @ Jul 5th 2008 1:53PM
I don't like that running strafing shit. Who the hell does that, while firing? Rambo. That's about it. I can't justify the game as long as they have sideways running in the game, it makes the combat look like a game, as ironic as that is I want realistic combat.
Mein Bratwurst @ Jul 5th 2008 4:42PM
Strafe shooting never bothered me. It's the old Socom 2/sure shot, super strafing that got to me. Although Strafe Shooting does look ridiculous, it is still just a game and not a simulator. If I were forced to crouch and sit still to shoot, I wouldn't even touch the game.
It was always funny to see the guys in Socom who would just sit crouch with their M60s.
randomposter @ Jul 5th 2008 1:58PM
honestly people in the US need to learn the definition of terrorism. it's not defined, as the post seems to indicate, as an arab with a gun fighting american troops. and blahblahbloo you're wrong as well, the americans in the video are not terrorists either. the people in the video are militia who (twistedly) see themselves as freedom fighters when in actuality most of what they do relates to killing the very civilians they supposedly are trying save. "terrorist" isn't some blanket term for all bad people, which is the way people in america generally tend to use the word nowadays, and if it were then we might as well people like Mao, Stalin and Hitler terrorists, which they are clearly not and were in fact far worse than mere terrorists. Bin Laden is a terrorist, these men the US troops are not. and i really hope nobody tries to turn this around on me and state that i'm somehow condoning what they are doing.
JAH75157 @ Jul 5th 2008 2:06PM
terrorist!
David @ Jul 5th 2008 2:20PM
The sad part about war is that the civilians are the one who end up suffering the most. As you said the freedom fighters end up killing the one they are trying to save and I must add that we are also killing the ones we are trying to save. Our soldiers are also sadly killing civilians product of all the collateral damage. The very sad part is that those civilians that will make it out alive will be scarred for life never having a full understanding of what actually happened. Many of them will be unfit to have a normal life afterward and maybe some of them will turn into terrorists in the future. It's a vicious cycle that seems to have no end in sight.
This is why war sucks. Really humans will be amazed if they actually see what can be accomplished by actually sitting down and talking things over. If everyone of us sat down and learned about each other then we will realize that we are in this together and we can't be fighting if we want to succeed. Sadly it seems that only through the disasters that are sure to come in the following years will humans be able to understand how important it is to unite forces and act together for the good of mankind.
JerJerBinks @ Jul 5th 2008 2:09PM
In the settings depicted here, you are more properly called "douchebag."
Moe @ Jul 5th 2008 2:13PM
I think I'll stick to MGO thank you. I would have bought it just for the headset but now that its in the same month as LBP I'll pass.
Hugerobots @ Jul 5th 2008 2:27PM
ANYWAY, back to the game.
The game definitely needs more polish if they think it will stand up to the Battlefield series, especially Bad Company. From what we see in this video, already BC has it beat by way of graphics and physics. Let's hope they can pull it off.
Mein Bratwurst @ Jul 5th 2008 4:31PM
Why would one compare BF to Socom? Wow.
Lavat @ Jul 5th 2008 2:41PM
Strafing like that becomes idiotic, I never liked how you had to do that to survive or that you could...One of the many odd things that make me touch and go with this title.
acedoh @ Jul 5th 2008 3:23PM
Actually the game looks good. And comparing it to Battlefield Bad Company is very weak. One game is a far fetched fps that has unrealistic fighting and the other is based on real warfare with real soldiers and enemies in a third person perspective. This game is based on team work and strategy to take down opposing forces. That is what makes it such an excellent game. I was playing Battlefield yesterday and realized how shallow the game play is. It's style is very repetitive and the missions get pretty boring. With a game like Socom you actually get to know people and make your clan with people you know and play with. This creates a very good strategical experience.
Hugerobots @ Jul 5th 2008 4:36PM
I'm really not sure you how you can differentiate BC with this type of game other than one being from the 1st person perspective and the other being 3rd. I may be in the dark about how amazing the community for SOCOM will be in respect to building friendships through the game, but that has never really been a part of how I game, personally.
Although BC currently is shallow with it's current variety in Game Modes, the gameplay the Battlefield series has evolved from has been garnering a more involving/realistic (being in a real battlefield would probably your best way to find out) experience.
Comparing it to BC is pretty valid. Both are team and squad based. Both revolve around opposing forces and goals, vast sandbox like maps and 'real warfare'. Which is what makes the genre both of these titles falls into. Unless the publishers are going to put actual political history into the storyline, it's pretty safe to say that any game in this kind of field is going to be unrealistic.
SOCOM has the potential to become a great title. The landscapes and textures look like a lot of hard work has gone into them. If they pull it off, fantastic, I'll take 2. But from what I've seen and heard from this trailer is not selling it yet.
Mein Bratwurst @ Jul 5th 2008 4:36PM
Hugerobots, I respectfully disagree. Socom isn't sandbox at all. Using your above logic, why not compare Socom to CoD4? It just makes no sense to me. Heck, I wouldn't even compare CoD 4 to BF.
J Swayze @ Jul 5th 2008 5:06PM
I love SOCOM (bought every game) but this look very PS2'ish. The movement of the characters seem so lame, so unless they can increase the fps, I will not pick this up
Like someone said, I'll stick to MGO
Kepa @ Jul 5th 2008 6:50PM
I want to like SOCOM. It seems like a pretty good game. But honestly, the graphics aren't spectacular. I know you shouldn't judge a game by it's graphics, but I suppose MGS4 has spoiled me.
bca @ Jul 5th 2008 11:13PM
Not PS2 for sure, but not a good representation of what the PS3 is capable of.
The trailer is not impressive to me. This sorta explains why they delayed the release a month. Hopefully they can polish it up some before it hits the market.
I WANT to like this game, but it will have to be much better than what we have seen in this trailer.
We'll see!
