Blu-ray movie releases for the week of July 6th
Now, for most of you, this week's Batman releases are what you are more accustomed to. You can bet Warner Bros. will churn out as much Batman as possible before Dark Knight. Really, we just saw a Dark Knight tie-in with Comcast cable service. That's right, cable service. Here are the rest of this week's Blu-ray releases:
- Batman Begins
- Batman Begins (Limited Edition Gift Set)
- Batman: Gotham Knight
- Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire: Live at the Greek Theatre
- The Moody Blues: Lovely to See You - Live at the Greek
- Roy Orbison: A Black & White Night
- The Ruins
- Sleepwalking
- 10.5 Apocalypse/Category 7: The End of the World

Cool. I'm just about to try and get me some Myspace Black Curtain tickets for the advanced screening in Sydney for the Dark Knight!
wish me luck lol
hahaha, 10.5 and Category 7, I remember those movies. They were only meant to be TV movies, right? because they were terrible lol
I mean come on, 'Category 7: End of the world' - they have to be freakin kidding. How the hell can a storm destroy the whole world...

I've been waiting on Dark Knight for months now. I just can't decide if it's worth the twenty extra dollars for blu ray on a standard TV.
Side note: Last night I dreamt my wife and I went swimming in the community pool with the Justice League. I talked underwater to see if Superman could hear me and we had fun with that. It was a good time.

I will be renting Gotham Knight and The Ruins. I'm not sure I want Batman Begins. It was a way better Batman movie than the last few, but I want the first two Burton films on Blu-ray.

Notice how this animated version, as shown in the Blu-ray box cover, correctly shows Batman as having white eyes with no irises or pupils. Most animated showings and comics also get this right. It's an essential element of his image, remaining consitent throughout drastic changes in costume, tone, and plot. It also helps make him expressive, since he usually remains stoically square jawed and outwardly expressionless, but the dramatically white eyes can convey a great deal of emotion on their own with the help of a skilled artist (or, theoretically, a skilled live actor).
However, none of the live-action version of Batman that I'm aware of (the 40s serials, the 60s campfest TV show and movie, the 80s/90s Burton/Schumacher film franchise, or the current Christian Bale film franchise) do this.
As a result, none of the live action Batmans looks like Batman. Instead they all look like some goofball wearing a Batman costume, sometimes cheap, sometimes expensive, but no more.
The really maddening part is that lately they've often shown Batman's eyelids and the rest of his face as shown inside his cowl's eyeholes as being darkened with makeup to be the same color as the cowl. That's corect, but why not go the next route and give him white contacts? You could even show a scene with him taking them off or putting them on, perhaps with expositionary dialogue explaining that this makes him look more frightening to superstitious criminals, or that the lenses protect him from blinding flares and chemicals, etc.
But no. Every time, all the time, producers and directors refuse to make him look right, and the result is just some loser in a Batman costume, NOT Batman.
