Deal of the Day: The Orange Box for $32
Sure, the PS3 version of The Orange Box has some issues. But when you realize that you're getting five excellent games for only $32, a few framerate hiccups seem like nothing. The Orange Box dropped down to $40 recently, but amazon.com is currently selling the game for only $32. If you haven't tried Portal yet, there really is no excuse.

dude this game has been 29.99 in target for like ages....
LAZoftheTamarinds @ Jul 8th 2008 1:12AM
Heck, in the target around my area, they were sellling this game for 15 dollars! Now there isn't any copy of the Orange Boc for PS3 there.
klexam @ Jul 7th 2008 10:38PM
I never bought this game because I didn't want to be supporting a half-baked port. Buying these games gives developers all the more reason to half do the port to the PS3. This would be a good deal at $15-$18 bucks used at Gamestop.
creyes4182 @ Jul 7th 2008 11:39PM
Umm.. it was actually a better port then the other ports being released at the time. Its totally playable and frame-rate issues where blown out of proportion.
Hotrod @ Jul 8th 2008 3:04AM
I agree with you brother, I heard this was a terrible port to the PS3 with frame rate issues and glitches. I won't support them by buying a half assed product.
benny boy @ Jul 8th 2008 4:11AM
The people who haven't played it have totally blown it out of proportion like creyes said.
I did not notice a single framerate problem when I played it and I don't understand everyone's obsession with how "bad" of a port it was when it really was completely playable and enjoyable.
If you refuse to buy it that really is your own loss.
motorer @ Jul 8th 2008 4:00PM
@benny boy
word. i didn't really encounter any frame-rate issues at all either. hl2, ep.1, ep.2 and portal run just fine.
Slade @ Jul 7th 2008 10:38PM
mybe if there was trophies :]]

Though my desktop is kind of weak, so my PC version runs with hiccups, I refuse to support the kind of work Valve is doing. I bought my version of Orange Box early, so I didn't know they would really slap PS3 owners in the face like this. I know EA did the port but I blame Valve for not supporting the port at all. I'm probably going to refrain from making any Valve purchases again they make a complete 180.
Popfrogs @ Jul 7th 2008 11:57PM
Yeah, Valve is allergic to anything that's not a PC. Them choosing EA London to port the game was most likely just a discount decision, i.e. they didn't want to spend any money on the port so picked the cheapest studio.
Gaucho @ Jul 7th 2008 10:53PM
I put off buying it when it first came out because i thought that the framerate thing would be a real problem but my need to play portal eventually got the better of me and a couple of weeks later i got it. To be honest I never really saw any framrate problems bad enough to consider any of the 5 games gimped. i kick myself for not having bought it sooner. there is no reason to not own this game. . . Unless you hate you kittens and Jesus, who I heard coincidentally loves pwning noobs in TF2
Moe @ Jul 7th 2008 11:11PM
Over-rated....not worth the $60 I payed 30 would have been better.
Kenny @ Jul 7th 2008 11:21PM
Well, i buckled and wound up ordering it. Seeing as though i am the only one on earth who hasnt played portal yet, i think its due time. And no, Target has it listed as 39.99 on their website, so this is a better offer. Thanks for convincing me!
adolson @ Jul 7th 2008 11:24PM
I got this off of eBay and I haven't had framerate issues worth mentioning. I do, however, find Half-Life 2 unplayable due to the audio. Why is it the only game on my PS3 that doesn't support Dolby 5.1 Surround? I've played at least 25 PS3 retail games, and all of them except this have 5.1 sound, and I think most of the downloadable games and all demos I've played also do. Voices are very bad in stereo or in ProLogic or Neo:6 modes (very quiet unless you're almost touching the other characters). Unplayable. Portal is fine, however.
DavidJuaquin @ Jul 7th 2008 11:34PM
I bought it used for $25, but I would of paid $60 if I had to. Its a great game and if you haven't played any of these Half-Life games, you surely are missing out.
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Jul 7th 2008 11:34PM
I can really only remember one part where the framerate dropped to nauseating levels. Unfortunately, it was a jumping puzzle in a flooded, electrified room. Good thing it was short. Shouldn't stop people from getting it, it's a fantastic little package.
kongkoro @ Jul 8th 2008 12:01AM
Absolutely horrible port, don't waste your money.
meatee @ Jul 8th 2008 12:07AM
I picked up a copy of this brand new from Half.com a couple months ago for about $35, and I think its totally worth it for what you get. Sure, there are some framerate hits every now and then, but it most certainly does NOT make the games unplayable. In fact, I think its worth the money just for Portal, and I never noticed any framerate issues at all with Portal anyway.
utterer @ Jul 8th 2008 12:09AM
I just bought this today actually at GameStop. I was having a hard time debating whether to get this, Warhawk or Burnout Paradise. I am digging Portal so far and the last time I played a Team Fortress was like 8 years ago in Quake 1. The thought of playing the sequel has me psyched. Hopefully I didn't make a totally wrong decision (i probably should have gone with Warhawk)
Alex @ Jul 8th 2008 1:56AM
if you dont have warhawk, get it, get it now
NOW!
its 30$ and IMO the best online game ever
EVER!
theclaw @ Jul 8th 2008 1:59AM
The PS3 version has slightly lower framerate and less content than on 360, but more stability.
I prefer it on PS3 over 360 myself.
UTWarden @ Jul 8th 2008 3:04AM
HL2 no matter how you slice it is sweet, Portal is kick ass as well.
The framerate drops are Ugly and shouldn't happen. it was bad enough I did trade it in.
Bease @ Jul 8th 2008 9:49AM
I liked Portal, but the framerate of the Halflife games made me motion sick (and i play a ton of FPS's). So i'm glad i only rented the game. If Valve isn't going to take the time to properly support my game system, then i'm not going to spend my money on their products...
koehler83 @ Jul 8th 2008 9:33AM
Valve can suck my nuts. I'd rather pirate what little good shit they do release. Namely: Portal and nothing else.
Risingsun @ Jul 8th 2008 7:36AM
Thanks for the tip Mr. Yoon. I bought the game as soon as i finished reading the article. Man, you guys have saved me tons of money.
Brian Spence @ Jul 8th 2008 8:01AM
I was a Half-Life 2 junkie on the PC for a long time, got a PS3 and a friend let me borrow his Orange Box (because I hadn't played Ep 2 yet, and didn't have Portal or TF2). I have to say, the graphics and gameplay are exactly like I remember on my PC. No, better. I know my PC wasn't the most amazing rig ever designed, but it's a solid machine. I think anyone who's thinking about buying this needs to do it immediately. HL2 is one of the best designed games ever, and you're not missing out on anything in this port.
Portal is really cool, I was shocked at how lame and stupid TF2 was. I mean, it's TF with a new skin!?!?! STUPID!
