1942: Joint Strike arrives on PSN 7/24
It only seems like yesterday that Capcom released another shooter onto the PSN. Well, their assault on digital downloads isn't over yet. 1942: Joint Strike will be available on PSN later this month -- the 24th, to be precise.
Joint Strike continues the gameplay found in the original 194X series of arcade games from the 80s. Gamers should know exactly what to expect: tons of fast-paced vertical rails sooting. Developed by Backbone Entertainment, Joint Strike will feature two-player online cooperative play and a new score created by Norihiko Hibino. That guy? He's just famous for making music for this "Metal Gear" thing.
New screens have been uploaded to our gallery. Check 'em out:

Finally a top-down vertical scrolling shooter for the PS3. We really need more of these. I'm satiated with twin stick shooters for a long while, give me more vertical and horizontal (yes I said it) shooters!

I agree. This is definitely a welcome addition to our library. I'd love to see a new R-Type on PSN too... and not a freakin' turn-based R-Type either. I can't wait till Bionic Commando comes too.
What I love about these remakes is that, if done right, they give you the nostalgia of those old games without having to suffer through the old and outdated mechanics. See Space Invaders Extreme for example.

No Raiden?????????

Sigh....well, I loved the old arcade 1942 (and 1943...and Time Ace)...but for the love, why do we have a release date for this and not Bionic Commando Rearmed!!!???
MCX @ Jul 9th 2008 3:10PM

Release Date: September 30, 2008
bombtrak @ Jul 11th 2008 4:30PM

oh great another one
adolson @ Jul 9th 2008 3:05PM
Another one WHAT? There are ZERO vertical-scrolling shooters on the PSN. Think before you type. And if you don't like it, don't fucking buy it.
Topov81 @ Jul 9th 2008 12:54PM
Trophy support ?
Jerry @ Jul 9th 2008 12:55PM
"...Joint Strike will feature two-player online cooperative play..."
To me this means two players with different consoles over the internet. What about two-player, one console?
Iain @ Jul 9th 2008 3:53PM
Too few games have that. Multiplayer is most fun when you can smack the winner in the face.
I would by it for Mulitplayer online multiplay.
Andy @ Jul 9th 2008 12:57PM
Oh, sweet. A vertical "sooter!" I'll have to look into this, as I typically enjoy these kinds of games.
seedaripper1973 @ Jul 9th 2008 1:40PM
is this and many other games being released in europe as well?...these questions and many others will be answered in the next thrilling installment of...er
RagingStormX @ Jul 9th 2008 3:05PM
This better have trophies....if not, I am not buying it.
Justin @ Jul 9th 2008 5:18PM
And so the xbox360 douchebaggery commences with the achievement whores not buying games due to no recognition....
Don't buy the game then assbag, we won't miss you in co-op
Dema @ Jul 9th 2008 4:00PM
I played this game before. It's okay but nothing I would personally
pay more than $5 for.
adolson @ Jul 9th 2008 4:31PM
July 24th, eh? Someone should tell Capcom:
"Also, this is a big month for you PSN gamers as 1942: Joint Strike, the next installation of the classic 194X shooter series, finally arrives on the PLAYSTATION Network on July 31, 2008."

from your very link... first read note in the comments:
"John Diamonon replied on July 9, 2008 at 6:59 pm
It will be well worth the wait. Also, I made a big mistake on the 1942 announcement. It’s actually coming out sooner than you think, on JULY 24, 2008!!! (but that’s a good thing, right?)"
adolson @ Jul 9th 2008 10:42PM
Good - that comment wasn't there when I posted the link. I was hoping for the 24th, since that's right in time for my birthday. I know what I'm getting! :D
KUV1977 @ Jul 9th 2008 10:29PM
The 'red' comments also confirm 9,99$...
The Dark Trooper @ Jul 11th 2008 12:16AM
Does this include the Europe Regions, Or do we have to wait as well?
