Burnout Paradise 'Cagney' update now available

Criterion will continue to add to the Burnout Paradise experience this year with further updates which will include trophies, motorbikes and ... planes? If you haven't yet picked up Burnout Paradise, then now's a great time to do so. With it selling for only $40 everywhere, you really have no excuse.

This is awesome, got the update about an hour ago. It's relit my like-fire for Burnout Paradise.
I have a question though.. Why are the burnout team continuing to update this game for free..i'm not complaining.. but why?
another thing..they must be amazing programmers to get this gorgeous graphic, 60fps, open world, streaming from the disc.

I wondered the same thing...came up with a few ideas:
1) Encourage people not to sell/trade their used games (less used games on the market = more new games bought = more money for them)
2) Just to build up the fan base / word of mouth / good press
3) They had all these features on the "road map" but they didn't make it into the final release.
I agree they are amazing programmers, kudos...I just don't know why we don't also have DLC that we can purchase...seems like good fiscal sense to me...so many mediocre games try to get more cash with DLC...why not a kick ass game like this one?

To make people like me go out and buy the game 6 months after release :)
Chriz @ Jul 10th 2008 10:08AM

I'd guess revenue from in game ads. (those Vizio/CompUSA billboards)

Do you think you'll have to replay the game from the beginning when they add trophies, or will you automatically be given a pile of trophies for the targets you've already met?
wilboss @ Jul 10th 2008 8:10AM
From what I've read so far it sounds like a lot of the Trophies will be awarded automatically for achievements already met, as your in-game awards are saved against your PSN ID rather than a save file which can be copied...
UISProphet @ Jul 10th 2008 8:12AM
You will not have to replay the game to get trophies. The uinique way Burnout Paradise links your gamesave to your PSN ID keeps cheaters from using the gamesave of others. Once trophies are released for Burnout, you will automatically get them for whatever you've already completed.
dumpertaker @ Jul 10th 2008 7:49AM
I'm looking forward to trophies being added to this game soon...

I can't get it to update, it stops at around 80% every single time. This is the 5th attempt now. Hows it going for everyone else?
Sora57 @ Jul 10th 2008 12:37PM
Dust it off? It hasn't had a chance to collect dust, I'm too busy playing it.
Last night I got pwned on line by some dude who took me down mercilessly, even when I switched to a van and a 4x4. Must unlock his car for myself.
Great game, great on-line play, and fabulous update from Criterion.
Sora57 @ Jul 10th 2008 12:57PM

Criterion, Insomniac, and Naughty Dog have always been my favorites..
This bumps Criterion up even more. Great all around.
Wish everybody could program and design a game as well as these guys.
