Stream YouTube videos directly to your XMB
If you have Google Desktop, you may want to download the Google Media Server application. With it, you'll have an easy way of sending YouTube videos to your PS3. Once a computer on the same network as your PS3 is configured with Google Media Server, you'll be able to easily access the most viewed, top rated, and other featured YouTube videos instantly from the XMB. In fact, you'll not only see thumbnails, but you'll also be able to copy the videos directly to your PS3 hard drive, for easy replayability.

Nice, thanks for the tip :)
Mo @ Jul 10th 2008 4:36PM
Sweet!! does/can this replace my Tversity setup?
Carlos @ Jul 10th 2008 7:14PM
no you should not.... if you think tversity $ucks ... wait until you try that google server piece of krap.......
the indexer will try to kill your computer.....
then the only thing it works it the youtube ... and it plays krapy some times...
it $uks so bad that doesn't look like it was done by google...
I don't think that the google media server has reach that level of maturity that TVersity has.....
so have uninstall it... and i'm going to wait until it matures.... mean while TVersity does a good job... (not great but good for now)....
XeroKool @ Jul 10th 2008 8:03PM
Listen to Carlos. I had the program for about a week. The interface looks like garbage. Deleted cause I felt it was useless compared to TVersity. Plus it's still in the beta stage. Google has a long way to go with this program before I can even consider installing it again.
Mo @ Jul 10th 2008 8:16PM
werd, thanks for the feedback guys. I guess being a google product i was hoping that it was very simple, elegant and > the other candidates. Tversity works pretty well, but something about it bothers me. Maybe its the extra super simple interface? I dont know, I am totally looking for something better..
DankandSticky @ Jul 10th 2008 4:48PM
Can you please tell us when this is available for MAC.. thank you
reson8er @ Jul 10th 2008 4:55PM
Have you tried it for Mac? You can d/l Google desktop for Mac, I don't see why this would not work...
johnstca @ Jul 10th 2008 6:34PM
I'd also want a MAC version. I got the Desktop for Mac, which runs fine, but the Media Server download is a "*.exe" file and I can't see any Mac version.
thinkofmeasmra @ Jul 10th 2008 4:46PM
thats sick...
Damian @ Jul 10th 2008 4:55PM
hey i got this set up earlier today , its great , especially the way i can listen to my MP3's wirelessly from my desktops hard-drive.
John S @ Jul 10th 2008 4:58PM
pretty sweet. i'll try this
today's update is out btw. at least, what's supposed to be there
aldo @ Jul 10th 2008 5:15PM
The same is also possible using TVersity. So you can stream YouTube videos, Shoutcast Music and photos, movies and music stored in your PC, and more.
Nitsu @ Jul 10th 2008 5:05PM
tversity can do this and more and have been doing it for quite some time now. big deal.
Vannoy @ Jul 10th 2008 5:26PM
Yeah but tversity is a steaming pile of crapware.. I would avoid installing it at all costs.
Nate @ Jul 10th 2008 5:57PM
Vannoy - care to explain? I had it installed and it seemed fine to me. I don't remember any adware or anything like that. There were some definite usability problems, but I wouldn't say it was crap.
Jack @ Jul 10th 2008 5:57PM
Everyone on in the internets raved about TVersity for PS3 being the best media server application you can find.
But it barely works. For me anyway.
Cesarcsrf @ Jul 10th 2008 5:20PM
how the hell i use this??
ocdog45 @ Jul 10th 2008 5:13PM
damm. i did not know that. good info
ocdog45 @ Jul 10th 2008 5:14PM
cool
RevN8r @ Jul 10th 2008 5:17PM
Oops, Xxx! Maybe he'll check before making a vid next time XD
Nate @ Jul 10th 2008 5:28PM
Wait wait..... is this a YouTube video of someone watching a YouTube video?
Can someone make a YouTube video of themselves watching this YouTube video? That would be sweet. Extra points if you can do it using the PS Eye or something else self-referential like that.
All sillyness aside, that's pretty cool. ANd it's cool you can do it with TVersity, too. I had problems with TVersity having a huge delay between when I'd tell it to do something from the PS3 and when it would do it. Like skipping tracks would take 5 seconds. That's just unacceptable.
Iridium @ Jul 10th 2008 5:44PM
Then someone else can post a YouTube video of someone watching a YouTube video of a YouTube Video on a PS3 and so on and so on. Then eventually all of the world will be watching itself watch a YouTube video of itself and then we will all be sucked into the endless space time vortex created by the entire world watching itself at once.
HESA1 @ Jul 10th 2008 5:39PM
Ok. Lets say how to see videos in maps called User Favorites and User Subscriptions? Anyone?
Iridium @ Jul 10th 2008 5:45PM
do comments frickin work, I mean really. You post a comment, it disappears and never shows up.
Iridium @ Jul 10th 2008 5:57PM
then it does and you look like a jackass
Maya Butreeks @ Jul 10th 2008 5:52PM
Nope
Mo @ Jul 10th 2008 8:18PM
I can't reply to your comment because it never showed up. However, if it were somehows to reappear and then magically show up, then I would tell you that yes, comments do work.
Mo @ Jul 11th 2008 2:40AM
I just saw you called you self a jackass!! you should get extra xp for that
HESA1 @ Jul 10th 2008 6:04PM
I mean what's with thees maps "User....". Can you see videos that you have on youtube in you favorite map?
kentuckyfried @ Jul 10th 2008 6:45PM
Here's a treat for all the guys in the audience (NSFW) celebrating this functionality addition for youtube:

Kevin @ Jul 10th 2008 7:27PM
Whoa!
Doesn't youtube use FLV?
Can the PS3 play that?
XeroKool @ Jul 10th 2008 8:07PM

Tversity absolutely ruined my media server connection on my windows media player software. I had to totally reformat my hard drive to get things back to the way they were before.
meatee @ Jul 10th 2008 10:13PM
I've never had any issues with TVersity, it works great for me. But, my house is fully wired for ethernet, so my PS3 is hard-wired into the network instead of wireless. I've never tried TVersity using a wireless connection, so maybe that's the difference for people having issues.
kurtzenter @ Jul 11th 2008 3:17AM
I installed the Google Media Server when it was released and I'm very happy with it. There are problems, but the quality over my WLAN connection is really great!
What I don't get is how I can add new files. They appear at some point, but not directly after copying them on my harddrive. Anybody know how to tell Google Desktop Indexer that there is a knew file to index?
kungfubob @ Jul 11th 2008 9:44AM
I used Tversity for my PS3 months ago,i never had any problems with it playing videos but there was a loss of quality that pissed me off. Now i never use it. i now prefer using a USB stick to copy stuff from my PC and websites which retains the quality and my PS3 reads at least 95% of what i feed it and its much faster and i dont have to drop my firewall putting my PC at risk. I suggest Veoh for video content (using PC). Its simply awesome and hassle free and fast.
Muhammad Sabeeh Ali @ Jul 11th 2008 9:16AM
Awesome, I will definitely try it once I get home
OdotJdot @ Jul 11th 2008 10:58AM
... so ummm... does the ps3 play FLV's now or not... thats what i really wanna know!!!
mode39 @ Jul 11th 2008 10:53PM
