Half-Life: Episode Three may come to PS3
Although Valve's distaste of the PS3 is well-known, the Half-Life series has still found its way to Sony hardware courtesy of EA. It looks like the franchise will continue on PS3 as well, as this initial piece of Episode Three concept art reveals. The piece, by Valve artists Ted Backman, Jeremy Bennett and Tristian Reidford, shows an ominous advisor from Episode One and Two flying forward at Gordon Freeman in a stunning cavern. We can't grasp any real details on Valve's upcoming finale to the Half-Life 2 saga, but the platforms listed clearly include the PS3 as well.
Check out Into the Pixel for a high-res version of this piece. PS3 fans would also take note to check out the spectacular high-res WipEout HD art also available in their gallery.

It's just a shame the game will probably end up being ported by EA's Special Needs department again.

The bad rap Orange Box for PS3 got was undeserved.
Being a HUGE HL fan and having played it on a gaming rig, the PS3 version is a good version. Sure the frame rate dips here and there, but it's still a solid game.
Sure, if you have both the 360 and PS3, you would probably be best served getting the 360 version....but if you don't have a 360 and still crave some HL....the PS3 version is a solid game.
preciousdeath @ Jul 11th 2008 12:19PM
I agree. HL2 runs pretty dern good on the PS3. There's a lot of bad ports out there, but HL2 was not one of them.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's been on there for a long time.

I just sold my copy of the orange box to get a duelshock, and honestly I only finished HL2, Portal, and 1/2 of HL2ep1... I love HL but to me it is a franchise that needs to be on PC (or at least have mouse and key support) maybe I'll by a decent computer and pick it back up for that. Awesome games btw.

So valve knows how to make stuff without DX ?
koehler83 @ Jul 11th 2008 12:06PM
Pass. Valve can suck it. They truly embody the metaphor of their name.
A Valve is bilateral, it goes 2 ways. On and Off.
ON = First Person Shooters
OFF = Nothing
Given the choice between the 2, I'll go with OFF
Goity @ Jul 11th 2008 12:04PM
It really didn't deserve the bad reputation. While there may have been a few frame dips, the ps3 version had anti aliasing, whereas the 360 version didn't.

At last support from Valve, I just hope they give a conclusion this time. So far Half life 2 is about delays in the story without an actual conclusion or explanation.
xcrunk @ Jul 11th 2008 1:06PM
You're right....they kind of need to have some conclusion to HL2. The cliffhangers are cool but without closure, you just feel like you're on a fiction treadmill.

Don't care about Value anymore. Not going to buy this.

i was absolutely disgusted with the orange ps3 port. had it for a week and sold it.
i'd played hl2 and ep1 on pc but thought it'd be cool to continue the franchise on the big screen with big sound......wrong. no surround sound! no 5.1! i was unbelieving at first but checked the net. yep, no dts or dolby digital. inexcusable.
it looked worse than on my 2600mhz single core amd pc with a radeon 9700! thats 5 or so years old.
being such a fan of the series i just wanted rid of the game. it was an abomination in my eyes. where all previous half life's were polished this was a true quick and dirty port.
no 5.1 surround aint a big point but it gives a clue to the amount of effort involved.
sorry /rant over/

If Gabe doesn't care enough to have HIS guys work on the PS3 version, then I do not care enough to buy it. NEXT!
Albanian_Killa @ Jul 11th 2008 1:42PM
Meh, never really liked Half-Life. Not liking VALVe either now. They're hailed as the best developers of all time but they can't even develop on the PS3. Either they're lazy, or self-proclaimed prophets who can't work on anything else than DirectX architecture. Not supporting a developer who complains like a bitch to deliver crappy ports.
bkalasin @ Jul 11th 2008 1:52PM
Don't understand the hostility coming from Valve towards the PS3 and vice versa. I loved the original Half-Life and ended up buying Half-Life 2 when I bought my PS3 system. Paid $60, and would have paid twice as much. As far as I'm concerned they can release a new episode every six months. Guaranteed customer right here boys.
Dwag @ Jul 11th 2008 2:39PM
Obviously Valve likes the 360 more cause they use to work at MS.
OTAM @ Jul 11th 2008 3:45PM
It's about getting the game to all the fans regardless of system. Gabe and the rest of Valve want to be smug little shit who care more about money than the product being in fans' hands at the end of the day.
PASS. Next please.
The Clunge @ Jul 12th 2008 11:26AM
I bought the Orange Box dirt cheap, second hand, as I wasn't going to financially support a sloppy port, and wasn't going to miss out on Portal either.
The game wasn't anywhere near as bad as is made out, completely playable, the only serious slowdown happening immediately after a huge area with a huge expanse of beautifully rendered water was loaded in and the game was quicksaving. As soon as the quicksave was done, the frame rate was fine again. As there were no troops or monsters within half a mile of me it caused no ill effects to my playing. Those were all down to that silly air-boat I had to ride through that section of the game. Yuck.
Hopefully this will appear without a delay and a huge press backlash this time.
