Metal Gear Online: new maps, characters and modes with the 'Gene Expansion'

Whether you played the Metal Gear Online beta or you thought you'd give it at try after completing Metal Gear Solid 4, you've probably fallen in love with the game by now. Don't get complacent though, the surface of Metal Gear Online hasn't been scratched yet, as evidenced by the first expansion pack for the title, which has been detailed on the official website.

There's no sign of a price for the upcoming "Gene Expansion Pack," but its contents have been laid bare for us to drool over. Included are three new maps ("City of Sorrow," "Underground Waterway" and "South American Power Station"), two new playable characters (Meryl and Johnny), each with their own special abilities, a new game mode (Survival) and a new reward system. Phew. That's a lot of content.

Playing in Survival mode allows you to earn Reward Points, which can then be spent to kit out your characters in new gear. Speaking of characters -- females enter the fray with this expansion pack and for those of you who don't have any more character slots available to make one, there's a "Gene Expansion Plus" package which includes everything mentioned above plus another character slot.

Any tweaks so it can be removed from the IngameXMB blacklist?

There is no in-game XMB blacklist. It's just interfering with the keyboard. The only option is to unplug your keyboard. Get a headset anyway. I'm getting sick of people thinking a keyboard is good enough. GET HEADSETS PEOPLE! IT CHANGES THE GAME COMPLETELY!

headsets are good but they all sound terrible in mgo and you can never hear what anybody is saying hence a keyboard being better
oh and to actually use ingame xmb while in the game just pause it, go to gameplay options and then press the ps button
its a hassle but it works fine

Any recommendations on a good bluetooth headset? The Jabra one that came with Warhawk sucks something awful.

That's pretty cool. I might get it. I'm loving Metal Gear Online. Great game :) Hopefully, more people buy it too though and I'm not the only one and hopefully it's at a reasonable price. I can't wait to play as Meryl and Johnny lol should be fun and the new maps sound good. I'm loving this game more and more as the days go by :)

one question, will they make this pack downloadable via the ps store or are we going to have to get it off the mgo shop in the game?

MGO Shop of course. Konami wants nothing to do with the PLAYSTATION Network when it comes to Metal Gear Online. I wish they could've used the PSN. What are they doing differently? They got a community site that noone even uses? Great. That was a great sacrifice.

So long as people survive walking into my m4's 30 rounds only to molest my body with cqc, I'll stick to battlefield bc and cod4. I also thought the surviving a grenade on the head was special olympics-esq as well.

Well, lets be fair here. I've dropped a laser tagged bomb not 5ft from an enemy, only to have him kill me 5 secs later. I've also unloaded clips into peoples faces, only to be knifed...while he's still 10ft away...

Though MGO has problems, Battlefield: BC has more. For example, they both share one: Mic support sucks ass.

What's the problem? This is the Metal Gear Universe. Of course it's not realistic.

Yeah both games have severe lag problems that lead to respawn insta-deaths and simultaneous headshot kills.

Nothing is dumber than getting a sniper headshot on a guy that gets a headshot on you. At the same exact time.

Konami and Dice both need to call Infinity Ward and ask them what netcode is.

i've been a pc gamer for awhile now and we usually got these additions free as sort of thanks for buying the game

now that i own a console it seems every little thing is being charged for :(

Well can they patch that easy headshot thing cause it gets abused everytime I play there is always some guy who can just spray bullets everywhere and kill me and my team mates like nothing sure we can do the same but then they complain just like how i'm doing now.

KONAMI ID is so fucked and no its not out yet pretty sure its coming out the 15th after the downtime for System Maintenance and i read somewere its gonna be around 10-15$ its like it was on a website a week ago posted in yen which translated to about 10-15$ and you get one free char slot with the purchase i here

Nothing new all iam seeing is the codec expan. and the extra slot of before. nothing new in game. When is this going to be up? im really looking forward to this.

yeah i think its still comming out the 15th because i just looked on the MGO official website and it said this: Please be informed that during regular
maintenance on 15/07/2008 00:00-02:00 (PDT),
the Cummunity Support Site for MGO will be
unavailable as itwill be taken down for
maintenance work along with the game servers.

We would like to apologize for any inconveniences caused.

The said the same thing when they added the new game mode so that when will get it most likely anyways I love MGO can't wait till this new update is out. :D
