POD by Line 6 announced for Guitar Hero World Tour
Not to be outdone by the onslaught of Rock Band 2 information leaking out, Activision has officially announced a collaboration with Line 6 to integrate the Line 6 POD into the new Music Studio in Guitar Hero World Tour. The Music Studio is a feature that will allow you "record, edit and share their own rock 'n' roll anthems." No vocals though, sorry! The POD, on the other hand, basically allows the player to change guitar tones using amps, cabs and effects. You can go anywhere from acoustic to heavy metal with this baby.
The official site also launched with a video explaining how all of this works -- Liam Lynch, director of Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny and Tim Mahoney of 311 tells you their experiences with the game. Lynch is particularly enthusiastic, claiming the POD "might be the most incredible object in the universe of music." You can check out all the screenshots, the video and other content here.

Take that Song pack 2, I mean Rock Band 2.
Elsnerma @ Jul 12th 2008 4:48PM
So...Rock Band 2 is "Song Pack 2" for you when the biggest "innovation" for GH:WT is the inclusion of drums and vocals...something Rock Band did in its FIRST iteration?
I'll be picking up GH:WT when it's 20 bucks at Gamestop, software only. I'll be picking up RB2 (again, software only, having bought the RB1 bundle already) on day one.

I still doubt it's going to be a worthwhile feature. Activision wasn't much on quality for the past.... umm...
Guitar Hero Rock the 80s
Guitar Hero III
Guitar Hero Aerosmith
and probably won't include drum, mic, and bass support for
Guitar Hero Metallica
Besides do you really think that being able to make your own songs will be implimented well? What about the sheer amount of crap you can expect from most people that make these songs?
Until Blizzard steps in and shows Activision how making games is SUPPOSED to work in order to make the fans happy, I refuse to buy their games because I'm sure i'll be dissapointed. Blizzard knows how to make games but more importantly how to support games to make them enjoyable for years afterwards.
Until Blizzard kicks it up a notch these games will be pretty crappy in comparison. Besides all of you Rock Band 2 neigh sayers are completely forgetting the fact that they've already announced new features for each of your instruments but haven't divulged on what they are.
Call it Song Pack 2 all you want. Sellout Hero fits much better for Activision's titles anyway :P

Activision didn't make rocks the 80's, that was harmonix.
MakaiOokami @ Jul 12th 2008 6:16AM
So that must be why Activision is in the lower right hand corner of the packaging. N00B.

Even if the game was made by members of Activision that formed into Harmonix by leaving (not sure about the time tables) that would still be worthless considering that Activision is Activision and Harmonix is Harmonix. Fact is Activision has been making a ton of games of late, Harmonix only makes 1 then gives a TON of support to the series.
Activision is in it to simply profit as much as possible, while Harmonix is trying to make a loyal following in order to increase overall profitability by providing a quality product instead of 3 extra games a year that serve no purpose, and are practically released then forgotten.

Coming from an actual musician that has used the actual product, let me tell all of you that the Line 6 pod sucks. Just thought I'd put that out there...
Ptrack_Git @ Jul 11th 2008 11:52PM
Amp modeling requires a bit of fitness and know how, and while I would agree that the pods are no substitute for an army of gear, they make for some decent rhythm tones and some cool lead tones (if you are into playing leads). DethkloK uses line 6 for a lot of the solos, as dose many other bands like Incubus and so forth. You cant beat the tone of a great amp, but line 6 is still pretty good. Check out some stuff I recorded with me L6 gear box at www.myspace.com/legendcitymusic if you want to here what it can do for yourselves (its just some stuff I did for a local indy film nothing serious).
I think it will get the job done for an in game music creation system, more pedigree than I expected. Rock on.

You think the POD sucks, I have a Pod XT Pro Rackmount version an it anything but sucks. This thing pretty much defined guitaring for me, it was one of the best things I've ever bought its helped me so much plus the added bonus of hooking to pc etc
Juan San @ Jul 11th 2008 8:28PM
Maybe in the past but have you tried POD 2.0 I 'm sure you don't even own one.
Brett from Atlanta @ Jul 11th 2008 8:40PM
I owned the original POD for a little while and quickly got rid of it. I've tried my buddy's POD 2.0 and it still sucks. So yeah, I've tried it, it sucks.
Ogre722 @ Jul 11th 2008 8:30PM
If only this version supported custom songs(a fools hope due to legal issues). I would love to play canon rock or the Halo theme on the TV like I do on my computer screen with Frets on Fire
hedpe @ Jul 11th 2008 8:36PM
thought you meant payable on death.
matahtak @ Jul 11th 2008 10:48PM
The point of these games are to have fun, get pumped while feeling like your playing your favourite songs (or discovering new ones). Who would honestly go from the high of getting 5 stars on expert to a slow process of trying to create their own music using limiting input gaming controllers?
1123 @ Jul 12th 2008 6:09AM
Pods are fine, don't know what you are on about Mr "Musician". For the money that you pay they are great. It's not going to sound exactly like the original amp/stomp box/effects, but then again what do you expect? So no, the pods don't "suck", it's probably just you.
