Ion Rock Band Drum Rocker: Three c-notes
Well, $299.99 to be exact. That's how much you are going to have to shell out for the premium drum controller known as the Drum Rocker for Rock Band or Rock Band 2. Why would anyone want to pay 3/4 of a PS3 for a controller? Admittedly, it is a quality product with much attention paid to the details -- the pads are "ultra-quiet velocity sensitive pads" that are tougher. It comes with two cymbals, but the third one is sold separately. You can also position the snare, tom and cymbal pads in any way you want. The drum pedal is all metal and with the option of adding a second pedal. The best part is, you "can swap the game controller module with one of the professional drum brains made by Alesis" and you can use this as an actual electronic drum kit.
Considering real drum sets cost at least $500 at the bargain level, this is a nice accessory for those trying to transition from gamer to musician. Otherwise, you are better off sticking with the normal version. Check out all the details and pictures over at the official website.

first comment. I'm sure that this would be very fun to play with and it does have great quality but 299.99$ is steep for a controler as said. And the their symbol is sold seperatly come on. This will only appeal to a certain number of people.but nice to see the effort just make it cheaper.

I think that this new drum set is awesome!! Will it be available for ps3 or just the xbox 360? The more realistic the better.. It would be cool to see if the cymbals would work as another note (color) on the game or just another option just for looks really,, That would be cool if they took it that extra step... After this They might as well develop a full Drum game and teach people how to really play the drums.. The possibilities are endless!

Alesis is a quality company, I had their Micron synth before, very nice.
But 299 for a rock band set? unless you're a real drummer, no real need imo.

My original drum pedal broke. That's 80 dollars for a metal one. I don't want Guitar Hero World Tour unless it can some how amazingly wow me, they have 2 months or so before the release of Rock Band 2. During that time I will have TONS of extra money and will be keeping my eye on that drum set and anything that competes with it. Needless to say... I'm one of those people that will be looking into buying it.
That thing is just pure sexy and unless I can find something of a lower price with decent enough durability and quality I'll buy that thing. Why buy something for 80-100 dollars if it will just break, why buy multiple games that perform similar if 1 provides a better experience. These games are competing for my money, as well as their accessories. i want something that will last. I want something I won't have to purchase again, and I'll have plenty of money to make my last electronic drum purchase a great one.
Not to mention being able to hook it up to a synthesizer is worthwhile. Your move activision, what's your drum gonna cost.

Make it compatible with GH: world tour and that Konami game that's coming out, and you have yourself a deal. I'm still waiting for a drum set to rule them all, and if it can be played with any game, it might be worth it.
If this thing can only play Rockband and somehow another game wins the rhythm-based-game-war, this is like throwing money in the garbage.

This is a great point-- surely the drums could be mapped to any game if developers made patches-- Soul Caliber IV played on drums, anyone? Anyone?

getting it. hope to see it at e3
Chris @ Jul 12th 2008 12:06PM
Doesn't RB2 still only have 4 colours and a kick for the drummer though? What's the point of all the extra pads? At least GH will have 5 colours.
Damian @ Jul 12th 2008 11:44AM
Their website only shows computability with the Xbox360. Hopefully they'll add the PS3 to this otherwise I'll be a sad sad man.

"The Xbox 360 version of Drum Rocker will be available first, in mid-September. We're also working hard on Playstation and Wii versions, which we expect to ship later in the year. Check back soon to pre order the Playstation or Wii Drum Rocker."
You can get that message if you go to their pre-order page, and click where it says "What about Playstation and Wii versions?"

I will be buying this first thing. I've been looking for this, and the cheapest thing is about $600 and it's not even this good. Finally a decent electronic drum kit for only $300. Day 1.
piXeL_ShiFter @ Jul 12th 2008 5:02PM
This is a sweet deal. Exactly what I'm looking for ... and definitely a decent price. Most affordable way to learn the drums, no doubt. I just wish we had a release date for the PS3.
Autopsy15 @ Jul 12th 2008 6:37PM
I'm already saving up for this when they release it for PS3. I hope the Alesis drum brains don't cost too much.
JaseH @ Jul 12th 2008 9:54PM
Ha. Pearl Drum Kits go for $300-$350 here in Australia, which is no where near $500 USD...
I don't know what you're smoking PS3F, but you gotta let me try it.

Is that $300-$350 including all of the cymbals and stands?
watchthebeatdrawp @ Jul 14th 2008 11:09AM
This is just a repackaged generic drum kit with updated cymbals and without a high hat control, effects console and bass pedal. My father bought one for me for Christmas. The bass drum pedal (which has a chain, spring and actual 'head' on the actual drum kit) that comes with this set is actually the high hat control for the actual drum kit. The kit was $150-200. I'm pretty sure one could re-engineer one of these sets to work with Rock Band. I can't give you guys a link, because the box has no brand on it.. It just says "Drum Digital" on the front. Maybe I'll post a pic later..
FATAL VISI0N @ Jul 15th 2008 5:43PM
Just bought me one of these beuties, Last night I was blasting away on some double bass and there goes the pedal on the rig set, my wife came down saw me crying and bought me one today. Sure 300 is a lil high 349 with shipping to be exact, but I play RB everydy on the drums, something I am going to use everyday I will def. buy. Sure a new game ay come out, lets daydream and fantasize a better game, but RB and RB2 setlist are all I need right now, along with the new RB2 drum tutorial ill help transition to learning to play real set.
Plus it looks soooooooooooooo nice!!!
deadsmile @ Jul 23rd 2008 12:02AM
If I remember correctly the guitar hero drums have a midi input on the back where you can plug in any midi device into it and play in game. So if you were to buy this drum set and a drum brain you could use all 5 of the notes in guitar hero world tour. So if someone wanted to use this for guitar hero they could (for a small fee).
megan @ Jul 23rd 2008 1:42PM
FYI, you can buy a *real* electronic drum kit at Sam's Club for $350. i have one!
now if only i could swap the head unit out for the rockband one...
sevenstizzle @ Jul 27th 2008 6:53PM
I seen that drum kit at SAMs it is made by ion that is why I noticed it same company that makes the rockband it's probably the same one
Stryker @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:25PM
This is the most realistic drumset you can get for Rock Band and its only $300. To see the pros and cons goto http://www.iondrumrocker.com
Cody @ Oct 3rd 2008 12:09AM
$300 for a 'controller' is really nothing, considering I and a few of my friends, have shelled out that much and more for the Logitech G25 race wheel, so we can immerse ourselves into GT5:P, as well as other racing games. When it comes to 'gamers', some of us want to 'get as real as possible' with our gaming...and we're sure we're not alone. As for the price tag ($300), remember this...you get what you paid for...if these drums had retailed at a lower price, I don't think the 'quality' would have been as good, however, this is just my honest opinion!
