Blu-ray movie releases for the week of July 13th
Not quite as exciting as last week's films, but here are this week's Blu-ray releases:
Fans of Jason Statham and heist movies should check out The Bank Job. The critically-acclaimed classic One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is finally out on Blu-ray, though fans of the movie are likely to have more than one copy of the flick already. Horror fans can take a look at Shutter, a J-horror that is a remake of a 2004 Thai film, but perhaps it's more of a rental than a buy.

Bank Job for me. I saw it in the theaters. Excellent movie, and the transfer is getting great reviews.
It's a b-day gift from me, to me.

Ya! A Digital copy for my PSP...oh, wait....
Dear BD distributors...the VAST majority of people playing your movie are doing so on a PS3...a good chunk of those people would gave PSPs along with their iPods. Please implement a PSP version asap.

this dude should've been Agent 47 in the Hitman movie. i love his movies.

Shutter is crap, rent it if you really want to see it. I LOVE horror flicks, but this is one (along with "The Ruins") is one of the worst horror movies I've ever seen.

Statham is generally in the crappiest films. I might have to check this out though.

This'll probably be my first purchase of a new-release BD since getting my ps3 last week...why's it on 2 discs?
I thought the all-mighty Blu-ray could hold SOOOOO much more than HD DVD's. SURELY they could've fit all the special features AND the digital copy of the movie onto one blu-ray disc?!?!
Rick @ Jul 14th 2008 5:24AM
the digital copy of the movie is on a standard DVD because most people's computers don't have blu-ray disc drives in them yet.
Shahryar @ Jul 14th 2008 9:44AM
Makes sense. And the digital copy is for iPods?
Shahryar @ Jul 14th 2008 9:52AM
when I said "makes sense," I was referring to the 2nd disc being a standard DVD for holding the digital copy rather than another Blu-ray disc. Wasn't trying to be a smartass (looking at the way it came out, kind of seems that way).
The iPod question's genuine too. I'm not too familiar with the digital copy bonus.

I'll totally rebuy One Flew Over... on bluray. Such a great movie.

Sony should insist, given its heavyweight status in the Blu-ray world, that Blu-rays that come with "Digital Copy" allowing buyers a free iTunes download also come with either a UMD, a voucher for a free UMD, and/or a PS3/PSP compatible PSN/Connect download as well.

The Bank Job is a fun movie, but not as light-hearted as the publicity makes it out to be. There are some pretty violent moments in it. After a string of stinkers, Jason is back.
The other movies I'll pass on. Seeing Cuckoo's Nest once is enough.

two weeks until Dark City!
