Microsoft strikes again! While we still have no idea what the
Grand Theft Auto IV's 360 exclusive DLC will be, it has been announced that
Fallout 3 will also receive similar treatment. PS3 owners will still be able to get hold of the game, but will not be able to get their hands on the 360 and PC exclusive expansions. Executive Producer Todd Howard stated that the DLC would be "substantial", though whether that covers any-and-all future DLC for the game is up in the air (as it still is with
GTAIV). So don't lose all hope just yet.

So...the question is, what's the reason for this? Was it paid exclusivity, or they just didnt feel like it?
HektikLyfe @ Jul 14th 2008 7:39PM
I'm sure it was paid. Perhaps there was the ease of additional development? The 360 is easier to develop for since it is so similar to PC development.
Mikhail @ Jul 14th 2008 2:34PM
wow, talk about a complete lack of faith in their install base, bill gates must be hyper ventilating with the ps3 outselling the crap box.
Reymo @ Jul 14th 2008 2:39PM
it is a complete lack of faith in their install base. Im sure it is a personal thing on microsofts part because they got rubbed out last gen by the PS2. So they are doing everything they can, which is throwing money around to stay in the game.
I do not blame developers for wanting money but there is a line you draw to keep you and your companies dignity.
Mikhail @ Jul 14th 2008 2:17PM
Of course it was paid, they just didn't have enough money to make the title exclusive. Micro$oft must have no faith in their install base.
The Calibur @ Jul 14th 2008 2:23PM
So THIS is where all those 360 profits go. lol
Reymo @ Jul 14th 2008 2:21PM
This is really starting to get annoying. It seems Microsoft is doing this out of desperation, so they dont fail like last time. Well w/e the reason it is, maybe there will be console specific DLC instead of the PS3 being excluded.
adolson @ Jul 14th 2008 2:21PM
I'm still buying this, but I'm annoyed about it. I didn't care about GTAIV because it's GTA, but this is Fallout, and I'm actually kinda pissed. Bethesda, you disappoint me... But as long as I'll get to play it, I guess that's all that matters.
wicko @ Jul 14th 2008 2:22PM
Do yourself a favour and boycott the PS3 version. Buy the PC version.
ryan @ Jul 14th 2008 2:29PM
yes, pay an extra few hundred bucks and upgrade your computer for Fallout 3.
also this just in: Portal: Still Alive is exclusive to 360 this fall.
just sayin.
adolson @ Jul 14th 2008 2:40PM
I'm pretty sure Bethesda supports Linux even less than the PS3 version.
Boycotting it won't help. In fact, if by some miracle, the PS3 version sold more than the 360 version, I'm sure that Bethesda would regret that choice, at least a little, as there is a ton of revenue in DLC that they'd be missing out on.
I'd rather see PS3 games sell lots... Maybe it's part of the reason we get the shitty end of the stick, because people boycott good games.
wicko @ Jul 14th 2008 2:39PM
Upgrade? I've had my PC for almost a year now, it plays crysis at High settings at a steady 30fps. That cost me less than 1k. You could spend 600 on a PC now and play Fallout 3 at better framerates than that.
adolson @ Jul 14th 2008 2:43PM
Or.... I could just buy the PS3 version for $60 and play it in HD on my LCD TV... My PCs run Linux and are outdated when it comes to gaming (like.. 2001 or 2002 was the last time I needed to upgrade). Not everyone runs Windows and not everyone wants to try keeping a PC current to game. That's why I have a PS3 to begin with.
ryan @ Jul 14th 2008 2:46PM
like i said, upgrade to a few hundred more on your PC if you are looking at a console as your system to run Fallout 3, if you care about substantial content that is.
wicko @ Jul 14th 2008 2:48PM
I'm sick of the PC gaming is too expensive BS. Back in the day, yeah, it was insanely expensive. Now? An awesome videocard costs 200 or less, ram costs 40$ for 2GB, motherboards are under 100$, harddrives 50$, PSUs are 50, dvd drive is 30, cpu 150-200.. 650$ for a decent PC. add 200 for a decent monitor. looking at a max of 900$ for a great crysis (at high settings) capable PC. Consoles? Well, 300-350 for a 360, 400 for a PS3. Then, a TV? minimum 600$ for a 32 inch. Hmmm... SAME GODDAMN PRICE
adolson @ Jul 14th 2008 3:13PM
I didn't say it was TOO expensive, I said I don't run Windows. You tell me if Bethesda is porting the fucking game to Linux, and if they are, then I'll buy a brand new PC. Otherwise, shut the hell up. I don't want to run that piece of shit operating system.
wicko @ Jul 14th 2008 2:53PM
It's easy to dual boot. Currently triple booting (XP, Ubuntu, Vista). I agree that spending 60$ is much cheaper, but I couldn't have any clue what kind of PC you have. But for me, the PC version is the best choice, considering it will look better than console versions and at better framerates.
But still, this kind of exclusivity BS should not be supported. It's a childish maneuver, and it goes to show that once again the publishers and higher ups care more about money than they do sharing an experience with everyone equally.
adolson @ Jul 14th 2008 2:57PM
@wicko: don't you think that "supporting" this "exclusive" bs would be BUYING the "exclusive" content on one of the platforms it IS on, rather than buying the game and never getting the DLC? That's logical to me...
ryan @ Jul 14th 2008 3:04PM
that's not even my point! if you pay for one way to play this game (PS3), then you go for another route because you want the content that is exclusive (PC) then you will be paying extra to upgrade your computer.
i'm assuming the OP didn't have another way of playing Fallout 3 because he is buying the PS3 version as if that is his way of playing next gen games.
wicko @ Jul 14th 2008 3:14PM
I didn't say to buy the DLC. Just get a different version. And by Buy, I secretly meant pirate.
adolson @ Jul 14th 2008 3:32PM
@ryan: you're right. I have a Wii, a PS3, and three PCs (all of which are running Linux exclusively since 2002, and are outdated hardware). I *could* upgrade my systems and yes, it is easy to dual-boot Windows, but I don't want to upgrade, and I don't want to touch Windows. I haven't even had to use Windows at work for years. It's foreign to me now, and all I really remember about it was headaches. I'll happily play Fallout 3 on the PS3, and I won't support the exclusive DLC, simply because I don't have the option to (Bethesda's loss).
Just like GTAIV, I'll be busy with other games by the time the DLC hits. Burnout Paradise is proving to me that once I'm basically done with a game, I really don't care much about it anymore.
thinkofmeasmra @ Jul 14th 2008 3:55PM
@ wicko...
iunno man you make some kinda dumb arguements because I COULD say, hey, if you got a ps3, you already have a great computer (see installing linux on a ps3-- further more look up installing windows ontop of linux) so that way people who already have a ps3 technically already have a good computer. And if you have a ps3, you already have a tv. And $200 does NOT get you an "Awsome" video card. I have a $2000 Nvidia Quadro 4600 that is actually "awsome" and it aint even top of the line. When you spend $200 at bestbuy or whatever your paying for last year's mid end cards. Go to nvidia's or ati's website and tell me if you ever seen like the top 5 cards in a product line in stores. You wont, because they are the "Awsome" ones that dont sell well the average joe.
You also forget not everyone knows computer specs like we do and may not know about all this stuff much less what their new computer should have. Then on top of that, most people in that category go to like bestbuy to buy thier computer where up until like the last 6 months would be waaay over priced for dated technology. Hardly the way to go in my eyes. Specially now that you cant even take advantage of DirectX 10 (and in comming weeks DirectX11) unless you have vista or windows 7. So that means those xp machines literally are limited graphically while vista has compadibility issues (lots with nvidia) and obviously windows 7 aint out till 2009-2010. Still think upgrading/buying a new pc is the easier than just buying a ps3?
Da @ Jul 14th 2008 6:53PM
If you're only getting 30FPS on Crysis, maybe you should turn your graphics down and stop bragging?
xcrunk @ Jul 14th 2008 2:21PM
It's got to be a timed exclusive.
No publisher in their right mind, especially given that this game will generate allot of cash, would sign exclusively with a game console company....they would be shooting themselves in the foot.
Yeah, I'm still waiting to hear about GTAIV exclusive stuff. Kind of fell off the radar, didn't it?
Maverick Saturn @ Jul 14th 2008 2:50PM
Unless that console is market leader with a high install base and high attachment rate. ¬_¬
thinkofmeasmra @ Jul 14th 2008 3:41PM
@ Mav..
Which it is not....
dante @ Jul 14th 2008 2:22PM
i remember when i heard GTA was getting exclusive content on xbox, and was slightly anoyed, now i couldnt care less. as much as i love gta, its grown old now, before i even completed it and i know its the same for alot of my friends. so even if there was dlc for it now, i wudnt bother buying it.
Phantom @ Jul 14th 2008 2:23PM
Meh , who cares , MS can't keep this up forever , they're just wasting money that could be used to make better HW or improve their service , or improve their first party gmes , or work on a handheld .
Phantom @ Jul 14th 2008 2:25PM
or it could be used to buy fancy cars , you know instead of buying exclusive DLC that won't be out till people stop being interested in the game .
kentuckyfried @ Jul 14th 2008 2:42PM
The key thing is not to cave into these Xbox bastards and buy the 360 version. We got to hold out and wait for the ps3 or at the very least, the PC version if possible.
This's what I hate about Microsoft...just b/c they have a big war stash, they feel like they can just buy through way through any industry.
Baldar @ Jul 14th 2008 2:26PM
I don't think I'm going to be buying this now, even though I've waited years for it. I've got plenty of other PS2/PS3 games to play without paying $60 to be treated like a red headed step child. The DLC on this would possibly be the only thing that would interested me about a 360, but it's definately not worth plunking down a few hundred for.
koehler83 @ Jul 14th 2008 2:24PM
They'd better get this rectified or I wont be buying the game at all.
Mastermenchi @ Jul 14th 2008 2:28PM
Seems like Sony was right you can't buy exclusive third party titles anymore instead get to buy their useless extra content.
Though if my extra content isn't free it would really have to be an entire expansion pack worth of content to get me to even consider purchasing it.
whoiscraig @ Jul 14th 2008 2:29PM
Exclusive to XBOX 360: an online community!!
Brian @ Jul 14th 2008 2:29PM
Bethesda really do suck.....I wasn't too excited about the game to be honest, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna buy it now.
deaftly @ Jul 14th 2008 2:31PM
exclusive portal coming to XBLA also, MS is owning e3 so far
omaplatypus @ Jul 14th 2008 2:38PM
uhh... i'm sure they would, since they're FIRST and no one else has taken the stage... we'll see who owns who tomorrow after Ninty and Sony get their chance.
Eggy @ Jul 14th 2008 2:52PM
lol owning with some DLC for portal and Fall Out. The rest is just copying Sony and Nintendo.
frankym @ Jul 14th 2008 2:55PM
Owning?? Are you insane?? Has sony even presented?? nintendo??
Dude, you truly are a loser.
deaftly @ Jul 14th 2008 3:02PM
SDF ANGRY
setarcosp @ Jul 14th 2008 2:32PM
*sigh* seems like MS are throwing a hissy fit! I wonder if it has something to do with this years console sales?
ryan @ Jul 14th 2008 2:41PM
so the executive producer of Fallout 3 saying how much he loves the XBLM to give content for it = MS having a hissy fit?...doesn't seem like they are the ones feeling butt hurt here...
setarcosp @ Jul 14th 2008 5:47PM
noooo course not thats why M$ are throwing money at anything that hints at ps3 exclusivity till it goes away
justice @ Jul 14th 2008 2:41PM
boycote is the word
fuck dat
w8in for god of war
want to see if M$ can do somethin' about dis one!
Nate @ Jul 14th 2008 2:51PM
That'll have the opposite of the effect we want. We want them to regret not giving us the chance to pay for DLC. Instead, we should all make sure to buy the PS3 version and not the 360 version. That way they'll see there's plenty of demand on the PS3 side.
Although I like the idea of trying to punish game makers for putting exclusive content in a cross platform game, there's not really any effective way of doing it. Boycotting just means they'll think they were justified in screwing over the PS3 users who "don't buy games anyway".
Instead we need to raise holy hell any time this kind of BS happens. Let them know we're pissed and that it reflects badly on their company.
oldmike @ Jul 14th 2008 3:14PM
the key is we get OTHER games more so if there muti
if they see we dont like being given sup par ports and
lesser copys of games they will NOT change
they most likely will not see any $$ from the dowloads as M$ paid for it
justice @ Jul 14th 2008 4:50PM
yo nate
i agree with you
but with a site like ps3fanboy if we all stick together
they'll know that we didnt buy it bcuz of the lack of consideration for the ps3 gamers...
we can make diference i guess, if we all do the same thing and advise sites like ps3blog and stuff
James @ Jul 14th 2008 10:09PM
Very annoying. Sony could however top it. What it needs to do is go to bethesda and tell them they want user created content on the PS3 version, pay if they need, DLC will seem foolish after. I'm tired of developers not taking advantage of doing this because the 360 doesn't.
I'd buy the PC version but my PC isn't powerful enough to run it.
Tsion @ Jul 14th 2008 2:43PM
It's only DLC exclusive because you can't fit it all on the Xbox360 discs. So PS3 will already have it at launch, no need for DLC. That's my fanboyism for the day, but I'm sure Microsoft knows that this fact is true and "needs" to buy DLC just to try and stay ahead of multi-platform games.
Reymo @ Jul 14th 2008 2:45PM
lmao! NICE ONE!
