I just got done watching a live blog of the Microsoft conference at
E3. I know Sonys is tomorrow but they need to step it up big
time!!!!!!!! Start working a little harder and faster! Just being a
cheap bluray player aint gonna cut it anymore! Microsoft announce
netflix support (which im guessing sony will also hopefully),
avatars, a new 3d GUI for xbox live, and the big one which really
hurt FINAL FANTASY XIII on XBOX :( im a huge SONY fan but Xbox live
is looking very good right now. Lets hope SONY has some bigger
announcements and starts getting things rolling faster to compete.
That Final Fantasy announcement is gonna hurt them.
Dan @ Jul 14th 2008 3:33PM
A Final Fantasy game on the 360 is just plain weird. I never saw that coming. I'm kind of disappointed on that announcement, but I doubt it will overall change sales that much, especially overseas in Japan once it gets released, the # of 360s overseas is really bad.
Pete @ Jul 14th 2008 3:15PM
The Netflix deal is exclusive with MS. No other console will have it. They said it right in the press conference.
streetball4life @ Jul 14th 2008 3:18PM
good catch pete. but more shitty news for us. Sony better have one hell of a conference planned for tomorrow. which i really hope they do. Because bluray , home , and little big planet just aint gonna cut it now.
Parker @ Jul 14th 2008 3:20PM
There is just no way Sony can recover from this. I can't think of anything they can do to save the PS3 now. I fear the PS3 died today.
Dan @ Jul 14th 2008 3:43PM
The PS3 did not die today.
1.)Sure the exclusive title lost hurt us, but I'd still get it for the PS3 as Im sure many others will.
2.) The gui look looks kinda crappy from what I saw and read on it. Its like they trying tooo hard to get a mii version. The original gui looked better in my opinion.
3.)Netflix: honestly how many ppl use that service? I dont see this as a blow to us in anyway.
4.) Most of the announcement was on exclusive tites which I admit I will definitely get. But thats it.
Wait for Sony tomorrow, trust me Sony wont die from what we've seen today.
The 360 is still selling like around 1k a week overseas.... its not gonna catch up anytime soon.
MrEverdred01 @ Jul 14th 2008 3:39PM
You guys should use this image I just made while talking about FFXIII from now on:

Roto13 @ Jul 14th 2008 3:40PM
"A Final Fantasy game on the 360 is just plain weird."
Why do people say this? Final Fantasy XI has been out on the 360 for like forever.
Jettic @ Jul 14th 2008 3:42PM
Everyone seems to be forgetting that the PS3 still has FFXIII versus as an exclusive, and then theres the rumor of the FF7 remake, I'm sure Sony is in talks with SE about that now, if they haven't been already, they really need that now. The PS3 is not dead.
Dan @ Jul 14th 2008 3:44PM
Dude... Sony is not gonna die from a wii-using kiddy looking gui. I'm sorry but no..
The lost of FF13 is a big loss, but I bet you it will sell much more on the PS3 then on the 360 gaurentee.
I mean the announcement for the system itself (exlcuding game release dates) were weak.
I mean netflix for gold members: Yeah... because I dont know anyone who even uses netflix period...
And again the gui... looks kinda childish with the mii looking ppl. I mean its soo obvious were the idea came from. Its kinda sad even....
sicklesdawg @ Jul 14th 2008 3:47PM
Still Exclusive to JAPAN
superaktieboy @ Jul 14th 2008 3:51PM
@Parker agreed tho there is one way they can recover from this:
announce...
it's coming..
waaaiiittt fooorrr iiiit...
REAL LIFE 3D GAMES..
lol
deaftly @ Jul 14th 2008 3:54PM
@Dan, kinda like the trophies and motion control on the ps3 huh?
drdre74 @ Jul 14th 2008 4:05PM
I dont think sony will do movies now. Netflix is only on the 360 so that mean M$ paid some big money to get that deal. Sony continues to just drop the ball at the 5 yard line time after time and I'm sick of it. Sony are some of the dumbest bastards to run a company.
xcrunk @ Jul 14th 2008 4:25PM
Netflix is only allowing certain movies to be downloaded. You can't download the latest movies on that service yet.
And this is only available to Gold Members.
I can't wait for Lips and that wacky movie making game.
Woooo!!!
McBonk @ Jul 14th 2008 4:45PM
This hurts. Some say the PS3 died today... I know one thing for certain, a little piece of the gamer in me died today. Sometimes we can fool ourselves into believing that developers "do it for the love of their craft," but today that sentiment was blown out of the water.
Can you imagine Kojima's reaction if he were told... "Uh... Hideo... we know your wish to create games as art, but you're going to have to take one for the team, buddy. Remember all those things you wanted to do with the BluRay disc? Well, you're going to have to do it on DVD instead. Sorry, buddy, money talks."
Regardless of what happens to Sony after this, gamers and developers with higher standards have definitely lost one to the bank accounts. If there was any innocence left in the indurstry, it was buried today.
BowserUSC @ Jul 14th 2008 4:47PM
I can't believe so many people are bashing netflix just because its now affiliated with MS. And saying that nobody uses it. Are you people serious? Blatant fanboyism and denial.
Squared @ Jul 14th 2008 10:22PM
I cannot believe what happened today...I feel like I was punched in the stomach...this LOE hurts PS3 big time...
I was also kicked off Blu-ray.com...for arguing with non PS3 owners, otherwise known as standalone blu-ray owners...all I can say is I was very upset...when to the site to vent and so many 360 lovers came on talking about it's great for Square...well, I feel Squared...
Akamaru @ Jul 14th 2008 11:42PM
@McBonk: I fell the same way. I mean Kojima gave us so much hope at what a TRUE PS3 game can be. Now that I hear that FFXIII may get dumbed down to sell a few more units just breaks my heart as a gamer.
Dm @ Jul 14th 2008 11:48PM
I kno sony has to take not a step forward but a HUGE LEAP
macserv @ Jul 15th 2008 12:37AM
Just because it's available on XBox doesn't mean it'll sell there. A brief glance at the historical sales numbers for the console shows that the 360 crowd is only interested in (moving down the ramp) shooters, sports, fighting, and racing titles.
A hardcore RPG is hardly a precision fit here, but who knows, maybe it could be a catalyst for change in the tastes of the average 360 gamer. I'd bet money against that eventuality, but it's possible.
Arnon @ Jul 15th 2008 3:56AM
Dan seriously.. You don't know anyone who uses Netflix? That's like.. the most popular movie/TV show renting company in the world right now..
Adam @ Jul 14th 2008 3:09PM
woow...how sad....just watched and was just shocked...woo thank god we keep losing game *rolls eyes* how sad :(
Aziz @ Jul 14th 2008 3:11PM
Wow is Sony just giving MS a hand in America and Europe?
ch0rx @ Jul 14th 2008 3:09PM
inb4 the INSANE flood of multidisk jokes.
Sveakungen @ Jul 14th 2008 3:11PM
I played trough the demo multiple times and every time the game got better, and I enjoyed more and more of all the details. Story is actually fun, with a twist of Starship Troopers, and the framerate is buttersmooth, with fantastic AA, and very sweet smoke and fire fx. Sound is stellar and so is the music. Im surprised people doesnt feel like this game looks good.... Must buy for me!
Mastermind360 @ Jul 14th 2008 3:11PM
I have lost all hope in Sony. All of the greatest titles that were or was Sony only has jumped on board with the crapbox360.
adolson @ Jul 14th 2008 3:27PM
I must've missed the announcements of Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, etc coming to 360.
KarlW @ Jul 14th 2008 3:43PM
That 'etc' used to be FF13. The list is getting shorter.
Most of the exclusives now are being done by developers bought by SCE.
That said, I'm expecting something big tomorrow. Sony could have paid to keep this thing PS3. The fact that they didn't means they have a new way to keep Japan (other than the massive install base, which will mean the PS3 version will outsell the 360's enormously). I'm hoping for a FF7 remake. That's about the only thing that can save Sony right now.
Outside of immediate releases of KZ2 and GT5, there's not a lot that Sony can do now.
jak @ Jul 14th 2008 3:10PM
OMFG death death. why why why why why!
Sveakungen @ Jul 14th 2008 3:10PM
damn.....
Aclerok @ Jul 14th 2008 3:09PM
I really wasn't expecting this. Ouch.
kentuckyfried @ Jul 14th 2008 3:30PM
WTF moment of the day here too. -_-
I mean, I've never played any of the FF games, but for being such a mainstay of the console, this's the last thing I would expect. This is a very sad day, when Squaresoft can be bought out.
Popfrogs @ Jul 14th 2008 5:01PM
@kentuckyfried: Look back a few years, SquareEnix has always been for sale. Remember the shocker of FF7 coming to the PS1 and not anything from Nintendo.
Microsoft is turning console gaming into a disgusting, dirty business with all these moneybag payola schemes. I really can't stand them as a company.
Moe @ Jul 14th 2008 3:10PM
I wonder how much this cost M$. Those effing douche bags robbing us of all our exclusives.
uh-oh polio @ Jul 14th 2008 3:12PM
as long as they dont degrade the quality to makeup for the other i dont care.
Ayrkain @ Jul 14th 2008 3:31PM
Exactly. I'm not in this so that Sony can make money, I'm in it to play games. As long as the PS3 is still getting it, then I'm cool. Also, what about Versus?
Remix @ Jul 14th 2008 3:09PM
HUGE blow 2 Sony. They let all their huge previous 3rd party exclusives go 2 the box. Sad sad sad
Moe-Ali @ Jul 14th 2008 3:32PM
yeah i kno man HUGE but
remember not all people watch and follow E3 infact they'll need to do a hell of an advertising campaign
now its up to sony .. microsoft did a great job indeed
oh and did they put in the falcon chip to help lower chances of RROD???
ryan @ Jul 14th 2008 3:53PM
it's really only a matter of time before the 360 gets a MGS4 port.
macserv @ Jul 15th 2008 12:40AM
That does seem likely, but a game like MGS4 *belongs* on the 360 as well as the PS3. FFXIII just doesn't fit the profile nearly as well.
Will fn b @ Jul 14th 2008 3:10PM
What the hell Sony? They really dropped the ball on this one. They need some MAJOR announcements at their press conference...
xcrunk @ Jul 14th 2008 3:09PM
Advantage Sony...
FFXIII will be HIGH DEF via Bluray.
God only knows how many discs FFXIII will use on the 360.
BTW, exclusivity is dead.
benny boy @ Jul 14th 2008 3:13PM
It's only dead for the PS3 at the moment. This is really frustrating.
McWeen @ Jul 14th 2008 3:16PM
Who cares how many discs it is? It takes me 10 seconds to switch discs compared to 10 minutes for installs. (BTW not trying to be a troll I have all 3 systems)
Lars @ Jul 14th 2008 3:23PM
"BTW, exclusivity is dead."
Huh? I could name off a huge list of exclusives coming this year, or that just came out earlier this year.
xcrunk @ Jul 14th 2008 3:28PM
Sorry, I meant third party exclusives seem to be dead.
Third party publishers aren't dumb. They'll make money on as many systems, portables and phones as they can.
I still think the FFXIII on PS3 will be the better version.
Lars @ Jul 14th 2008 3:42PM
I can't think of any first party exclusives.... All I'm thinking of is 3rd party.
FlashingBlade2 @ Jul 15th 2008 4:28PM
ye thats tru, its not that much of a bid deal, developers make mor money overall makin games multiplatform, and it will be better on ps3 cuz theyl port the 360 version no dought, and itl SD on the dvd vs ps3s blu ray disc in hd. hardware for ps3 is more powerful period if tapped into correctly. and as some else sed ther is stil final fantasy vs game thing come out watever its called defo an exclusiv, and the rumoured remake of final fantasy 7. it is a sorry loss, but its not a criplin one, wait til sonys conference, ther not dum they av stuff planned fear not, its by far not te end of the rode, tho sony do reali need to get ther act together with securin exclusives, like payin developers for exclusivity. but again its not the end of the world, developers need money and this is one way they can ensure greater profit.
RKA @ Jul 14th 2008 3:11PM
And all the Sony Fanboys cried out in pain! lol
