So, here's that Final Fantasy XIII trailer ...
Yeah, we can complain about Final Fantasy XIII's move to Xbox 360. But let's not forget two important things: it's still coming out on PS3, and it's still the same beautiful game we've all wanted. Here's the E3 trailer that was on display, filled with all sorts of new footage that hasn't ever been seen before. Of course, now that it's not a PS3 exclusive, maybe you think this looks worse? Hopefully not! We're still very excited for this game.

I dont care about exclusives, i only eant JRPG god dammit
joseph.bellear @ Jul 14th 2008 5:56PM
so much for Playstation 3 only huh?
but i'll maintain that if halo 3/multi plat GTA4 didn't kill the PS3, GeOW2/multiplat FFXIII isn't either. especially considering the fact that GTA4 appealed to US gamers much more than FFXIII. however, what MS did do was eliminate a huge lifeline for the PS3.
Chris @ Jul 14th 2008 6:05PM
But before, Sony could draw buyers buy saying "but we'll have FFXII."
We can't say anything of the sort anymore. MGS4 is out. Killzone 2 might have some consumer sway but it's still only one game.
Honestly, I blame Sony. What one of those Microsoft reps said a while back was completely true. Sony are a bunch of liars and are full of false promises. How many exclusives have they led us to believe we'd get, only to not lift a finger to stop Microsoft from buying them out? For how long have they said, "Oh but we'll have Home, Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, MGS4..." while Microsoft offers similar titles but actually delivers them instead of holding them back and repeating the speech next year.
I don't care for Sony winning anything anymore. As long as I can still get good games for my PS3, that is. Time to upgrade my PC.
anthonyjh @ Jul 14th 2008 5:56PM
I don't blame SE. They are just following the money. I'm really getting tired of M$ and Sony though...
Matthew M @ Jul 14th 2008 6:00PM
Competition drives innovation. The two companies are good for each other.
anthonyjh @ Jul 14th 2008 6:03PM
I'm not denying this.
graphixmaster @ Jul 14th 2008 6:12PM
Tell that to EA they are the Kings of lets buy out our competition.
Nathanical @ Jul 14th 2008 7:53PM
@anthonyjh
i would agree with you on a normal day, competition is deffinately good for the industry, BUT, this generation, its proven that its no longer innovation that wins the war, its who has the biggest pocket book. THAT, its M$'s contribution to the industry, and why ill NEVER buy an XBOX.
Dwag @ Jul 14th 2008 6:06PM
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well now those RPG fans in the US and EUR won't have to be worried about getting there RPGs.
My problem is though is that the 360 not only has more gigs but its cheaper and has all the games that were PS3 exclusives.
I'm still buying it for the PS3 though so fuck Achievements but also fuck Sony.
Phantom @ Jul 14th 2008 7:03PM
lol , we have trophies now , and I think Sony only made this deal so that Sqeenix had the money to finish , the PS3 version is going to be superiour no matter what , since it will use of the cells power , even here . That's why it's still exclusive in Japan , so they can finish it like they wanted to . The only real downside is the delay . The only people who will buy this for 360 anyway are the people who wouldn't have bought it at all if it wasn't ported .
Eddie @ Jul 14th 2008 5:59PM
Pretty much the only that will piss me off is the release date of FFXIII (hello late development of 360 version).
benny boy @ Jul 14th 2008 6:11PM
I hope they don't dumb down the graphics as well just because of the 360.
Denkigrve @ Jul 14th 2008 6:51PM
Benny:
Go read some of the other news stories about this. Square said the PS3 version is being finished for Japan first, and then localization for the US and Europe starts. This also includes porting the code to the 360. So if any version suffers it'll be the 360 port. However that might also spell delays for a US launch.
Square lost a LOT of money last year. I'm glad they were able to strike this deal since they need money to keep afloat, and after they pretty much bled cash last year this should help them regain it. They just better hope the delay to the US market is worth it. Lots of folks may forget about this title if it's delayed until 2010 as a result of this choice.
Steve Childs @ Jul 15th 2008 4:19AM
I don't think the 360 version will hold the PS3 back anyway. Developing on the PS3 as the lead console and then porting to the 360 is the way to do it, Burnout was done this way and leads to great games on both consoles. Its where a game was 360 lead and then ported to the PS3 where you get problems.
However, what will be interesting is how many DVDs they can cram it onto and if anything will suffer, it will more than likely be the cut scenes. On PS3 they'll almost certainly be 1080P, on the 360, they may well have to be DVD quality to fit them on a disc.
Whilst loosing an exclusive is never nice, the PS3 version will still be the one to have, imo. All it will do is expose 360 owners to FF and then with FF XIII Versus being exclusive to PS3, it could well even result in a few of the 360 owners who tried FF XIII getting a PS3 because they want to play Versus!
Besides, they did loose an exclusive themselves recently, remember - Bioshock? OK, its been out on the 360 for ages, but it leads the way for a sequel to be multi-platform now, so they've lost an exclusive as well.
We have to face up to the facts, Exclusives these days do not make financial sense, unless someone is willing to pay for them to be exclusive by compensating the developer for the loss of potiential sales...
my 2c...
Eddie @ Jul 15th 2008 9:10AM
I agree as far as the exclusives not making sense, I mean come on guys, how much money did SE lose last quarter (or year was it?)...answer: tons. They need this to be available to the widest audience possible.
Ayrkain @ Jul 14th 2008 6:01PM
Seriously, no release dates? Argh. I don't care if it comes out on the DS, but ffs, give us a date already.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Jul 14th 2008 6:01PM
Well.......at least we have Versus right, guys?
...........right?
.....'tis a sad day to be a PS3 lover
:(
held225 @ Jul 14th 2008 7:16PM
@ Hashbrown... i agree, its really sad that we will never see FF full potential. After all they have to reduce the graphics and cut the game by about 60%. So that video should be considered "Wrong advertising" since the game will not even get close to those graphics. Just look at Gears of war 2 the hair of those characters looks like paint and their faces look so fake with NO emotion, i guess thats what FF will look like. Im already asking myself "Imagine What could have been"
Sev @ Jul 15th 2008 10:27AM
So your saying that your jealous that we have a good exclusive and you don't? You and I both know that if this wasn't a 360/PC exclusive, you wouldn't be complaining.
Nick @ Jul 14th 2008 6:03PM
It's still a gorgeous game and I have to believe that it'll perform slightly better on the PS3. I'm glad that 360 users have an opportunity to play Final Fantasy XIII.
On a side note, I think that multi-console owners will pick up the PS3 version instead of the 360 one, unless the 360 version has some exclusive content.
Phantom @ Jul 14th 2008 6:59PM
It was developed for the PS3 for like 4 years , the 360 version is going to be a port , and it's graphics will be worse , no matter what (since the game was made to use more power) . And if there is DLC than it'll only go to the PS3 ... in Japan only(unless they sell enough here on PS3 to convince them it's worth making ) , unless their are enough sales for the 360 version to convince Sqeenix that they will profit from porting it to 360 . DLC in Japan is a no brainer tho .
deaftly @ Jul 15th 2008 12:14PM
Fanboy hopes and dreams are awesome. Both versions will be exactly the same.
toefer @ Jul 14th 2008 6:06PM
If deciding to make FFXIII multiplat is what's been holding this game up for so long, I now had SE. I don't mind that it's multiplat, just that their decision to make it so has made us wait longer for it.
ps3 rules @ Jul 14th 2008 6:08PM
PlayStation Store Movies and TV video service hidden in PSP 4.05 update.
Spam @ Jul 14th 2008 6:10PM
It's as gorgeous as ever, but I can't help but feel that it leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth...
Archon @ Jul 14th 2008 6:10PM
What pisses me off is the fact that... they plainly lied to us by saying that the great graphics and musical power can be achieved thanks to the power of the unique and groundbreaking and one-and-only PS3 specs... Well, that doesn't seem to be an Xbox killing issue anymore, huh?
MakaiOokami @ Jul 14th 2008 6:13PM
You have to remember that SD vrs. HD is still a question. It's very possible that the 360 version won't quite look as nice since it's being ported. I doubt it would look better. We'll just have to wait and see.
For the rest of you guys either put up or shut up. If you're nto willing to give square enix a way to be profitable on the PS3 then just quit talking. Would you guys be willing to pay an extra 10-20 dollars to keep this game exclusive? Or what about having Sqaure Enix skimp on some gameplay because they will start to drastically cut into their ability to profit off of this game by cutting out millions upon millions of possible buyers.
Put up or shut up. That's all I have to say on this subject
midwestdem @ Jul 14th 2008 11:18PM
C'mon that was obvious Sony marketing hype from the beginning.
Hell, NIS is saying they couldn't do Disgaea 3 on any other platform, when I'm sure it could easily be on PS2 or Wii. I think the older games even came on CD-ROMs:-)
me @ Jul 14th 2008 6:11PM
grr get off the damn guns in FF Sqenix....
ajiezer @ Jul 14th 2008 6:12PM
I'm not that sure that the game will be as awesome as it could have been if only focused on the PS3, I can see a gimped version
Phantom @ Jul 14th 2008 7:11PM
no , they will finish the PS3 version to completion first in Japan , then make a crappy port for the 360 and release both here .
ajiezer @ Jul 14th 2008 7:18PM
I hope you are right Phantom
Flicky @ Jul 14th 2008 6:15PM
So can someone who isn't really an RPG fan and never played a FF game before get into this ?
jpneiswi @ Jul 14th 2008 7:26PM
yeah...all the final fantasies are completely separate (except for X-2 which was a legitimate sequal). I love final fantasies because I know the quality of the games that SE puts out...
I do agree (at least I'm telling myself) that it should look better on the ps3 because it will be completely finished on the ps3 before they even port it to the 360...lets hope that SE does to this like Valve/EA did to Orange box for the ps3 (jk...want SE to do well, although I'm pissed at them at the moment)
midwestdem @ Jul 14th 2008 11:24PM
It depends how the gameplay turns out.
If its the MMORPG lite system from FFXII non-RPGers or PC Gamers might really like it. (If that's the case it might also have been good reason to port it to a Western oriented system.)
On the other hand if they return to the traditional, turn-based gameplay the series is famous for, you probably will only like it if you like JRPGs in general.
blake @ Jul 15th 2008 8:38AM
@ midwestdem
I agree with your comment and at that, second your thoughts. Also, FYI "oriented" in its primary form means to arrange or place to face the East (as in the Orient) as i remember. Western oriented does make sense (oriented has a ancillary meaning that is the vernacular), it is however kind of funny sounding to me :) not trying to hate on your comment though.
Eggy @ Jul 14th 2008 6:15PM
It's hard to get excited about a game that we won't even get to play for another 2 years. :(
jgpliskin @ Jul 14th 2008 6:15PM
I'm boycotting it in anger
Phantom @ Jul 14th 2008 7:25PM
why , Sony only let this deal go through (I think) so that square can have the money to finish the game and make FF14 . The 360 version is just going to be a crappy port that is nothing compared to the PS3 version .
jgpliskin @ Jul 15th 2008 7:00AM
Nobody knows how it's gonna be. And if Square Enix only care about money then I'm not giving them mine. I'm sure I wont be the only one to not buy it,they've let a lot of people down.
Jerses @ Jul 14th 2008 6:22PM
FFXIII not an exclusive...man if it wasnt for RROD i will change to XBOX they will even have theyre own version of home coming soon... netflix.... 3d menu....man now thats what i call redesign. wasn´t square bragging about the ps3 cellprocesor with ffxiii? and making that tecnical demos of ffvii... im sad about this news. Not becuase its coming for xbox but because devs are to lazy to make good use of the ps3 and sony not buying exclusivity..or what ever the word is.
BLee @ Jul 14th 2008 6:24PM
Its not going to be gimped because of the 360.. theyre not even working on the 360 version til the ps3 versions completed and released in Japan..
This move is just the signal call that Sony SCEA is dying in America..
Jose @ Jul 14th 2008 6:30PM
So, the game was really delayed so we can have both versions available at the same time?
I wouldn't mind the multiconsole release so much if the 360 was losing an equal amount of exclusives, all we get is Bioshock, c'mon.
If exclusives don't matter anymore someone missed the memo.
Eddie @ Jul 14th 2008 6:40PM
you are a moron, and you are REALLY slow.
Carl @ Jul 14th 2008 6:40PM
Couldn't give a flying shit about it anymore :D
Dwag @ Jul 14th 2008 6:35PM
Graphics don't matter to me I'm just interested in gameplay so if graphics is the only real win of the PS3 version well like I said before the console with the best graphics never win or else Xbox would have won last gen.
Either way the PS3 version sells at least a couple million PS3s but I doubt it will do much in the US now that its on the 360 and most US owners go for the 360 version of the game.
With the new install thing on the 360 does PS3 really have anything that wows us other GoW3 and Home which is kinda getting destroyed by Avatars?
Phantom @ Jul 14th 2008 7:27PM
The PS3 controller is much better for RPGs , and there will probably be the usualy lazy port issues , frame rate , bugs , etc . And the PS3 version will probably get DLC (but maybe only in Japan)
RagingStormX @ Jul 14th 2008 9:46PM
Ok SE....FF13 is mutiplat now, super for everyone........NOW can you announce that the PS3 will be getting Star Ocean 4, Infinite Undiscovery and Tales of Vesperia? I don't care if they port their games to the damn atari...I want to play these RPG's on my PS3 dammit. Oh yeah.....very nice trailer you sock-cooking mofos. Its says alot when a company is so good that they can lose your respect and still get your money on day one for their product....
matahtak @ Jul 14th 2008 6:42PM
I'll still buy it for the PS3, mainly because I don't have a Xbox360, nor would I want one. I don't think Square-Enix realizes that although Microsoft does have a larger consumer base (19 million to 10 million), I would imagine that Sony's consumer base is more into RPGs. I think 360 users are more excited over Gears 2 to be honest.
I agree with comments here, I am worried as well that the graphics will be dumbed down for PS3 to avoid differences.
Phantom @ Jul 14th 2008 7:29PM
No don't worry , the graphics will be much better on PS3 , because they are going to finish it on PS3 first and release it in Japan , then they are going to translate the PS3 version , THEN they will start porting it to 360 ASAP to have it released here ASAP .
