Umihara Kawase becomes Yumi's Odd Odyssey

"Trapped in a bizarre world filled with spikes, pitfalls, and giant, hostile fish with nothing but her wits and her trusty rubber fishing line, Yumi will have to run, jump, climb, and swing her way to freedom. Yumi's fishing line isn't just handy for fending off fish--it also works like a grappling hook, allowing Yumi to latch onto and swing from just about any part of the environment. The game's advanced physics allow players to pull off remarkable feats of grappling acrobatics and find new, creative ways through the open-ended levels."
Check out Japanese demo to get a (very small) idea of how the game plays.

I Love This Game !

My list of anticipated games has just grown. This game was brilliant on the snes. But why rename it to Yumi's Odd Odyssey when the game is well known under the name Umihara Kawase?
cafecito @ Jul 14th 2008 9:30PM
It's only natural to change the name to something legible to most western people :P
I don't think it makes such a difference. Besides, I don't even know what Umihara Kawase means.
andwhyisit @ Jul 15th 2008 12:57AM
Umihara Kawase is the girl's name.
rikki @ Jul 15th 2008 9:56AM
Well...the series was a cult hit, meaning it's not "well known" at all compared to...uh, pretty much any game that's been given an English release save for the Final Fantasy games that weren't.
It's kind of sad that they're changing her first name, but I can understand the decision. It'd probably get butchered by the same types of people who think the correct pronunciation of "Cecil" from FFIV is "gay".

Isn't this supposed to be a horrible port, slow and buggy? Guess it's easy to localize...
Brent @ Jul 15th 2008 12:09PM
I loved the SNES version! I hope this is great as well.

When are we gonna see a decent game, like virtua fighter for psp?
cafecito @ Jul 15th 2008 4:35AM
That was completely out of place
burandon @ Jul 15th 2008 5:43AM
I don't wanna burst anyone's bubble, but I hope they fix it when bringing it here. The Japanese version was REALLY buggy and was horribly received. Reviews at Amazon.co.jp say as much: 36 out of 38 reviews were 1 star @.@ If anyone wants to look themselves, the title's 海腹川背 Portable (the link is a bit long to post directly)
cafecito @ Jul 15th 2008 3:03PM
Yeah, I actually looked into that, and you're right. They say the japanese version is horribly buggy. I hope they fix it on the way here, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
rikki @ Jul 15th 2008 9:56AM
holy shit.
HOLY SHIT.
I wrote this game down for the "something I'd like to hear about at E3" contest over at DS Fanboy, then laughed at myself for writing the least likely localizaion in recent history.
...I REALLY hope they fix all the bugs...but even if they don't I will probably buy this and just complain. :(
Dr Haisook @ Jul 15th 2008 1:30PM
I have mixed feelings.

Umihara Kawase is good game. But PSP Version is awful. Because PSP Version can not be made SFC, PS Version's staff and have many bugs. These bugs reported this site.
