I say (like no more UMD's) the PS3 gets a USB UMD reader. (like super gameboy) so people can play UMDs on a ps3 w/o a psp.(or the ability to use your psp as it, if you have one)
They said they wanted to connect them more, and their was big stuff coming.
(help their PSP software sales Problem and their PS3 lack of software problem [unless you've had a psp]). And Movies too of course.
AND when PSP2 comes out. it wont have a UMD drive, but you can use the external USB UMD player on it so its still BC if you want (at a bulk expense but whatever, i think its the best possible solution)

am i missing something, gamespot say the conference streams live at a different time from their website
Dan @ Jul 15th 2008 10:48AM
Seriously, I want some od awesome stuff being announced or added on because MS dropped some nice stuff yesterday (minus the mii crap) and I'm hoping Sony shows us the same treatment. :(

I was pretty disappointed with losing FF13.. but I can see ways of recovering.. kinda..
Perhaps an exclusive new Kojima project.. Maybe they lured Itagaki to do something? Or the new TEAM ICO project..
But FF was one of the major staples that Sony had.. poopoo

Grr, dates been changed. Note to self: check for date changes, before publishing an article that's been sitting in backend for awhile.
Carney @ Jul 15th 2008 10:55AM
It's EDT and PDT. Daylight time, not standard time. If you're going to use the initials/acronyms instead of saying "Eastern" and "Pacific" you should get it right.

Sony didn't LOSE FF13. You all need to take a chill pill and stop exaggerating the significance of the M$ announcement. It sucks, but it's not the freaking end of the world, Chicken Little.
Oh, and the M$ conference was otherwise unremarkable.
HektikLyfe @ Jul 15th 2008 3:09PM
Sony loses/shares FF and gains a Bungie product. Not a bad trade.
Carney @ Jul 15th 2008 11:02AM
No way, I think disks are a much better solution, and should be retained for any PSP2 or any console.
In case of a bricked system, or an upgrade to next-gen or just lighter/smaller hardware, you can easily bring your games over, plus there's no limit to what you can own in contrast to the finite space on a hard drive.
Also you can bring your disks to a friend's house, swap easily without DRM hassles etc.
I do like increasing PSP interaction with PS3. Your PS3 UMD reader idea is pretty cool (again, though, the PSP MUST have a UMD drive).
Another cool idea is for the PSP (or maybe a PSP2) to be a PS3 controller, like they demoed back in 06 I think. They used it as a controller for a racing game and the screen was a rearview mirror. Never implemented it though.
But think: it could be a Madden controller and you could pick your play without your buddy sitting in the next chair seeing it.
Eric E @ Jul 15th 2008 11:25AM
Im waiting for something to utilize that too (psp as controller) or the ability to plug your DS3 into your psp and control it more comfortably if you want. (especially w/ PS1 titles)
But w/ no UMD you save so much space and battery power (no moving parts = good) old titles can all be downloaded or you still have the option to play them, it just takes a little accessory/cable (which might be slightly bigger then a psp2 w/ a UMD slot anyway.
People can buy that adapter and play some psp games, then when psp2 comes out, they have a back catalog they can play on go now.
Or people w/ a psp now can take advantage, and if they want to play their old games on psp2, buy the adapter.
Carney @ Jul 15th 2008 11:44AM
The problem, Eric E, is that your scheme requires either a hard drive (expensive, delicate, moving parts/heat, limited space), lots of internal flash memory (SUPER expensive, limited space), or forces gamers to buy more MemorySticks (very expensive, limited space).
Eric E @ Jul 15th 2008 1:43PM
Carney:
a 16gb Solid State Drive (flash Drive) runs about $300 sure, but the iphone, ipod Touch, etc are doing pretty good w/ 4-8GB internal, and im just saying they announce it. A lot can happen 12-18 months.
They wouldn't get rid of the Memory stick port, and thats getting cheaper/faster/smaller all the time too.

Any chance FFXIII will be announced to have PSP support??? A PS3 exclusive character? I can't help but feel that there will be a bone thrown to the PS community. Blind fanboy? Hopeful gamer? ;-)

I'm sure they'll say Resistance 2 is going to Xbox 360 and so are all their other games that they refuse to pay to keep exclusive. Oh yeah and Home will also be going to 360. Sony is just letting me down more and more these days. I love my PS3 but damn all they do is make promises and we never see anything come of it.
MakaiOokami @ Jul 15th 2008 11:51AM
Tell me how Sony is going to announce the THEIR COMPANY is going to start making games for the 360... Are you on crack?
You're comments aren't even valid. Sony is letting you down? Sony lost FFXIII exclusive because it's year 2 for PS3 and Year 3 for 360 and the 360 has 6 million more consoles world wide. There are still plenty of other great games quit being a pessimistic retard and actually wait for the announcements before stating that you're dissapointed n00b
drdre74 @ Jul 15th 2008 11:56AM
Dude it was a damn joke noob! LOL I know that they are sony games. I was being sarcastic. But come on Home has been pushed back like 14 times, Killzone 2 the best game to ever be made got pushed back, they've been saying video is coming and now netflicks went over to the dark side to the 360 which was suppose to be on the PS3 also. I'm just say Sony is letting great games and products just slip by because they don't believe it takes money to make money.
MexicanTerrorist @ Jul 15th 2008 11:59AM
Sony owns the rights to both Resistance and Home. They didn't own the rights to Final Fantasy, Square Enix did.
That is why FF can be converted but Resistance and Home can't.
Kspraydad @ Jul 15th 2008 12:02PM
Since SONY owns 10% of Square Enix this is already true.
drdre74 @ Jul 15th 2008 11:42AM

What time is that in GMT? You've readers worldwide you know!:)
Majed Athab @ Jul 15th 2008 12:06PM
Sorry there brother, it's 6:30pm GMT.
benjitastic @ Jul 15th 2008 12:19PM
Thanks, much appreciated!
P @ Jul 15th 2008 1:47PM
im guessing its been delayed?
Gamespot, who in there infinate wisdom had:
Nintendo 4:00pm BST and 6:30pm for the countdown
and Sony 6:30pm BST and 4:00pm for the countdown
now has a countdown which stops at 7:30pm BST.
Likewise G4TV say 'Tuesday at 2:30PM' but i dont know what timezone that would be for to look into it, but it seems its been pushed back an hour?
Also:
"So join us later when we cover the press conference live. Stay tuned."
Does this mean there will be a link to a live stream given, Gamespots was worse than useless for Nintendos & Microsofts, but G4TVs was decent for Nintendo's, decent enough to see 5 of them making complete arses out of themselves playing Wii Music, and decent enough for them to claim lobbing a virtual frisbee at a stupid virtual mutt to catch, was the cutest game ever (LBP might disagree, on like a billion levels!).
Kspraydad @ Jul 15th 2008 12:18PM
That BINGO card doesn't really give me hope.
benny boy @ Jul 15th 2008 12:22PM
What time is that in the UK?
madness @ Jul 15th 2008 12:30PM
I wasn't overly impressed with yesterday's announcements and think Sony's will be just as good, if not better...but Sony better counter the Netflix deal.
McBonk @ Jul 15th 2008 1:04PM
I'm thinking that because Sony is actually in the business of MAKING movies, that they'll have this covered.
I hope. ;-)
