So this is MAG: Massive Action Game

MAG was Sony's final item at the company presser yesterday. You know, it's that game that supports over 256 players. While its features are quite astounding, its name however leaves little to desire over. MAG equals Massive Action Game; it's rather straightforward don't you think? It sounds more like it's its own genre. Anyway, check out footage captured at the conference.

I'm hoping for BF2'esq style gameplay (PC version!!). If so, this game will pwn all!!!

Im mainly worried about lag. Otherwise, bring it on! SOCOM for small tactical matches, MAG for insanely large squad based mayhem! muhahaha!!

A lot of people weren't that excited over this though and that's probably because there are sooo many shooters coming out that any new shooter, no matter how
innovative, is still just another shooter.

I think that people are really just wanting new types of games that are innovative and really interesting such as Mirror's Edge or any of those new querky PSN games. I'm personally more excited about those than MAG.

I don't mind the name so much, but perhaps there could be a better one.

At first glance, 256 sounds amazing, but think back, and it's Planetside (PC) brought up to date, and damn good it looks too. Strange it's taken until now for someone to have a crack at another MMOFPS. Since it won't be bug-ridden, and under advertised like PS was, 'and' is based on a mainstream console such as the PS3, it's surely a guaranteed hit.

I hope it's an MMO because if it's not 256 players for just regular deathmatch sounds like overkill, just a bullet point for the back of a box. To the poster above Huxely was a MMofps developed for PC being beta tested right now in Korea, which is to be ported to the 360. It was announced at last year's E3 I think.

and I dont see this coming out before 2010 at the EARLIEST..........it may be one of those games they talk about and doesnt come out for like 4 years.......i.e. Gran Turismo 5....

MAG is just a concept name. I suspect that once SOCOM Confrontation is released they'll rename this as part of the SOCOM series.

You read my mind. I would've felt a bit more secure of Sony's fate with more footage of Home and this game (actual gameply though).

And they have to change the name, its plain crappy. Compared to massive game like Warhawk, its name doesnt stand up.

I love the idea of getting away from small shooter games such as Gears of War and Call of Duty.

War in the modern battlefield takes place with men then 4 v 4 or 6 v 6, and more space then a Walmart parking lot.

This really brings about team unity, and not just 3 good players and 3 scrubs.

I really don't get why people all across message boards (this comment section included) keep saying this game looks good. It is all pre-rendered. Nothing is real time. The game will most likely look like ass because of its massive scale.

However, that doesn't mean that I am not interested in this title. It definitely has potential but I'll wait for some real-time footage before passing judgment.

If they can pull off what I think there trying to pull off , this will be just amazing , no matter how long is takes to make . I think what they're trying to do is make this game alot like real combat . Notice how at the beggining they have that chart . What that is I think is battalions , units , teams , squads . That's amazing , for you could be in the say Marine forces , Force Recon , Unit 6 , squad 12 . And they're would be all of the other squads , and as you get better you gain rank , but unlike other games , this actually gives you power . So maybe someone who's made it to major , they can tell a certain number or squads what to do and where to go , while everybody on their side is focusing on getting the 10 or so objectives done . And you're fighting with you're squad , but you're part of a huge offensive . WOW .

If they can pull this of in a way where people actually co-operate and aren't just asses who do whatever they want . WOW , that will be AMAZING . Here's hoping .
