Sony E3 press conference bingo results are in
It's a shame that we didn't get bingo. We were so close, too. If only the PSP had trophies, then we would've been set to win. Alas, it didn't happen. We guessed wrong on the new SKU; it turns out that there's a new 80GB SKU at $400. We were also looking forward to a new PS3 controller or maybe some new PSP colors, but those things didn't happen. Anyway, we did all right with nine out of 25. Really, that's not too bad. Check out the results for Microsoft and Nintendo. Who do you think did best?

You could've had a bingo if you had just laid out the most obvious choices in the right locations...
That said, while I found Sony's conference overall to be the best, I think Microsoft's FFXIII trumped everything from everyone else. Nintendo's conference was by far the most terrible pile of trash I've ever witnessed. Microsoft had some pretty lame stuff there, all that crap they stole from Nintendo and Sony (Mii rip-off, Singstar clone, etc).
Majed Athab @ Jul 16th 2008 4:56PM
It's true, we would've won had we lined up the most likely stuff, but that's not fun!!! I carefully made sure that small and big, likely and unlikely were evenly spaced to make things interesting. We were still very close!
ryan @ Jul 16th 2008 4:57PM
we could go on and on all day about who ripped off who when, and who has the better games, but i think we can all agree:
Sony had the most to talk about.
Microsoft had the biggest surprise.
Nintendo had the most smiling.
parkd @ Jul 16th 2008 9:52PM
If you just added a free space like Wii fanboy and 360 fanboy, we could've got two bingoes! (bingos?) But overall, we got closest!
Shashwat @ Jul 16th 2008 4:44PM
unlucky at bingo huh. It seems that they want both versions of Final Fantasy to be the same. So they're gonna gimp the ps3 version. hope this is not the wrong place to post this link.
http://xbox.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-ffxiii-team-will-find-ways-to-compress-and-not-affect-the/3#thankYou
ryan @ Jul 16th 2008 4:48PM
why would they gimp the PS3 version? if anything they'd have to gimp the 360 version when compressing it onto 4-5 discs (which i don't think they would either).
Shashwat @ Jul 16th 2008 4:58PM
Well they want to make sure the visuals are the same. Since they already have been working on the ps3 version for a long time they probably won't be able to polish the 360 port up so quickly. they would have to downgrade the ps3 version's visuals to the 360's level. Plus the ps3 has a small performance edge with cell.
Vannoy @ Jul 16th 2008 9:10PM
Do you know what you are talking about? Like they would really redo visuals for a game they have been working on for 3+ years just to do a multi-platform release.
Stop being a crybaby, you still still get the same Final Fantasy game they have been promising you for years, the only difference is more people will be able to play it now.
Xav de Matos @ Jul 16th 2008 8:20PM
Wow. If that's how you read that story then you are crazy.
Shashwat @ Jul 16th 2008 9:29PM
They want the visuals to be equal. Now tell me how am I reading this wrong. isn't it expected that the Ps3 version would be more polished after years of development? The cell is more powerful when used properly. Thus, the ps3 version either may be 1) gimped, 2) They will just leave it as it is but not use any more of the ps3's power. We've seen exclusives such as Uncharted and MGs4 and how they use the ps3. now did I read it wrong. I'm just wondering how they will port over the 360 in such a short time and still keep the amazing graphics we have come to expect from them. The 360 is not as powerful as the ps3. That's what I thought I read. "As for the in-game visuals, we're going to look for ways to ensure that the quality remains the same between the two versions." That's what the guy said. How can the 360 match the level of detail that they have worked on for years in a few months with its hardware? Granted its powerful but the cell gives the ps3 a edge in the graphics department. The only logical conclusion is that the ps3 version will not live up to the developers original vision. You read it wrong.
Shashwat @ Jul 16th 2008 9:26PM
to Vannoy. They might not gimp it in terms of worsening the graphics they have but they might just not improve on it. I'm just taking what the developer said and conjecturing upon it. not that I really care about Final Fantasy that much but it still is kind of sad to watch exclusives go. We are getting worse deals along with slightly worse games because of them going multiplatform. My basic argument is that Microsoft would get pissed at Square Enix if the 360 version is worse and that thus means they can't realize their true vision for FFXIII on Ps3.
ryan @ Jul 16th 2008 9:58PM
dude, settle down.
it's currently being built on the PC. that's where all games are born y'know.
they can tweak the hell out of it to make it look as awesome as possible on PS3 and simply tweak it again when porting it to 360.
OR, you can continue to think negatively and spew more propaganda. choice is yours, but what do i care? i'm just a random internet dude.
Shashwat @ Jul 16th 2008 10:36PM
Ryan,
I get what u mean. what i'm saying is they had the ps3 in mind when they developed it. the 360 is somewhat less powerful. they build on a pc with the ps3 in mind. I'm just saying that it looks kind of hard to port it over quickly and still maintain amazing graphics without sometime. remember ps3 is harder to code for but is more powerful. i can't imagine the 360 reaching the visual level that they got after years of building quickly. sorry for the rant. :)
I kind of am in a anti-MS mood after them pulling the bungie announcement especially after bungie did so much work on it.
ryan @ Jul 17th 2008 12:18AM
ah, it's all good dude.
but the 360 port will be along much later into 2010 long after the PS3 port for Japan is finished. i doubt they'd tone down graphics when the 360 port is that far down the line.
and remember, it's not just the technology that'll save a developer's ass, it's the devs themselves that can make or break a port. PS3 or 360.
ryan @ Jul 16th 2008 4:48PM
PS3 controller should have an update IMO. something like this:
http://www.playmessiah.com/products/ps3/hardwear-controller-armor.htm
and giving the sticks some convex grooves would be nice.
i was looking forward to Kojima's new IP, but i think that's happening today or tomorrow at their own conference.
linebeginstoblur @ Jul 16th 2008 5:06PM
We just got the DUALSHOCK 3's not too long ago though. And there's nothing wrong with those controllers! We didn't need a new one.
ryan @ Jul 16th 2008 5:15PM
ideally the dualshock should've come with the PS3 on launch date, but due to circumstances Sony could've avoided, it didn't happen.
i'm serious about this, the controller could really benefit from trigger grips for the L2 and R2 buttons. it's already springy, just go the extra step.
sticks could offer more resistance, a convex groove design could really improve play. i believe a Madcat controller came out with one recently that has this design, so there are those that are thinking along the same lines of improvement.
adolson @ Jul 16th 2008 5:52PM
ryan, while I appreciate your ideas, I am extremely glad that the PS3 controllers are how they are. I hate the Xbox and Xbox 360 controllers, and can't do shooters on them. Mostly, I don't like the analog sticks. I like how floaty and smooth the sticks are for the PS3, and I like the L2 and R2 buttons how they are. My only complaint is that they're accidentally hit while the controller is set on the couch - especially annoying if I'm watching a video and then it suddenly starts fast-forwarding. I prefer the L1 and R1 buttons for aiming and firing, and don't thing triggers are necessary. Triggers wouldn't feel good for a racing game like Burnout. That's all my opinion, and if you prefer the 360 controller, you could consider buying a 360.
ryan @ Jul 16th 2008 6:39PM
well said and points taken.
i should say that the L2 and R2 are analog and are much more suited for pressure context controls such as giving the car gas and the like. they are already springy and are well suited for a trigger shape.
this would also make them more comfortable and ergonomic. as they are now they feel halfway in what they could have been, they are much too bulbous and slippery. it makes driving and shooting in GTA4 quite a chore.
i really don't see how sticks with convex grooves are worse than smooth sticks. the smoothness in the sticks now cause for too many instances of readjusting your thumb on the stick. convex grooves would remove this, enabling a firm grip for your thumbs.
in all honesty, i can't see anyone complaining if these small adjustments were made.

I posted a link in a previous comment. Left 4 Dead is coming to ps3!!!! http://www.gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=199448

Good find... Is it a mistake or is it real?
Arnon @ Jul 16th 2008 5:30PM
Probably a mistake. Valve already stated it was a 360 exclusive =
adolson @ Jul 16th 2008 5:54PM
And Square-Enix already said that FFXIII was PS3 exclusive... So that means nothing, really.
Seminole @ Jul 16th 2008 4:53PM
I meant to ask this before, but why didn't you guys have a free space although both Microsoft and Nintendo did?
Majed Athab @ Jul 16th 2008 4:58PM
since our card went up first, consider it as the "beta" version. =P
Nerdkiller @ Jul 16th 2008 5:02PM
God, theres still nothing annouced for the PS Eye. Theres like only 4 or 5 games for the eye on the PSN and yet they haven't said anything ever since those games were launched. C'mon Sony, give the eye a chance.
Baldar @ Jul 16th 2008 5:05PM
Doesn't LBP us the eye?
fedexKILLER @ Jul 16th 2008 5:11PM
Amen to that. Considering it's a much better piece of hardware than the EyeToy, I was seriously hoping for a lot more support. I know that it has been confirmed that LBP will utilize them, but we need more, for sure. I have more fun with the camera than I do with that Wii-thingy.
Khaliel @ Jul 16th 2008 5:12PM
Don't forget that this is "just" E3. There is still the Leipzig Game Convention (biggest one in Europe where Singstar, LittleBigPlanet, Home, and Eye of Judgment were shown at first). So there will be new products there in august. And in september, it's the Tokyo Game Show, and Sony is ALWAYS keeping something big for the TGS. So E3 was just a warm up.
Eggy @ Jul 16th 2008 5:20PM
TGS is much more interesting to me. I want mah team ico and WKS.
GTC @ Jul 16th 2008 5:13PM
The US did get a Siren date. The trailer on the US store says July 2008 at the end.
miller4283 @ Jul 16th 2008 5:15PM
I was also hoping to hear something from Heavy Rain. They are killing me with that. Throw me a freakin bone.
Niko_Bellic @ Jul 16th 2008 5:17PM
Gotta be legit... L4D seems to be a timed 360/PC exclusive. EA will take over port duty, yet again.
Arnon @ Jul 16th 2008 5:31PM
It's easy to make mistakes on things like that..
Niko_Bellic @ Jul 16th 2008 6:08PM
@Arnon, wait for it... (There are no 3rd party exclusives anymore.)
mafafu @ Jul 16th 2008 5:58PM
Did they not announce new PSP colors?
Devin @ Jul 16th 2008 6:33PM
The 80GB (bundle?) w/ DS3 should be a good price at $399 if it comes with:
A) new heatsink
B) new CPU die shrink
C) a bundled game
I don't care about BC, but if they don't have it I think they're shooting themselves in the foot.
Dwag @ Jul 16th 2008 6:41PM
hey did anyone see the Gamespot live demo of Killzone 2 at least twenty times better then the Resistance 2 demo go watch both and you'll see what I mean.
They even talk Multiplayer and answer a questions. 32 player online more may not be better Insomiac. to me the only bad thing I can say is Military ranks damn after Halo,Resistance,CoD4 i've gotten fucking sick of 12 year old and even grown men saying I'll own you N***** do you see my i'm a F***** General(yes i've actually heard that before).
Soapy911 @ Jul 16th 2008 11:19PM
no heavy rain, makes me a sad boy.
Pepperoni @ Jul 17th 2008 10:28AM
No news on the NCSoft partnership?
