Were you one of those people that skipped
Prologue to wait for the full version of
Gran Turismo 5? Get ready to wait. In an interview with
Joystiq,
Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi stated that the full version of
GT5 "might not even roll out before 2010." Instead,
Prologue will continue to be expanded upon, with additional cars, tracks and features. In fact, a new update is planned for the "near future." The big question we have though is: will it be free?
Perhaps
Gran Turismo 5 would wrap up production a bit sooner if Yamauchi and crew wasn't so adamant about filming an entire series for
Gran Turismo TV. Have fun driving those Ferraris Yamauchi ... while the rest of us wait years for your next game.

Delaystation 3 strikes again. What a crock...
RC @ Jul 17th 2008 9:39AM
I've got Prologue, it's pretty awesome. I can live with that for awhile.
jtedesco33 @ Jul 17th 2008 9:39AM
GT5 is a planned launch game for PS4 watch and see!
frankym @ Jul 17th 2008 12:23PM
@jtedesco33: You may have hit the nail on the head. PS4 will be out in fall 2010!!..No kidding.
IMHO, the may as well keep expanding prologue with DLC either free for minor expansions, or paid for major expansions. When I downloaded the game, I was curious too see if we could expand to GT5 with DLC this is looking more like a reality!!!
First and foremost, they need to fix the online portion of prologue. As it stands now, it is terrible.
Lars @ Jul 17th 2008 4:42PM
PS4 probably won't come out till 2012 or later.
But to be fair, a 18-24 months is a pretty short time period when talking about programming a game. Especially a big one.
Marky264 @ Jul 19th 2008 5:32AM
I knew he would reveal that sooner or later, Looking for a release in 2009 is way to early and he wouldn't have enough time to be producing the game, I dont mind waiting at all since GT5P will be getting updates frequently, Now whos calling Prologue just a short demo? I Laugh at you people who do!
Eggy @ Jul 17th 2008 9:43AM
Obvious news is obvious?
Rygar @ Jul 17th 2008 9:51AM
Prologue is indeed good, but to me it is lacking the fun factor that the earlier games in the series had. I was beginning to think poorly of GT5's potential for me, so this delay isn't too bad a thing.
This is all personal opinion of course, so if you're getting offended cause I said GT5P isn't 'fun' - KMA.
Snowman @ Jul 17th 2008 10:03AM
I'm totally with you Rygar, I've loved all the previous games, but Prologue just hasn't dont it for me at all. GT4 is where things started to go downhill for me though, the physics were PERFECT, but it was like the makers wanted to make a car museum way more than they wanted to make a racing game.
Winning what could be best described as a "horseless carriage" just isn't cool and whats the point of winning a DTM car if there are no DTM events.
I hope they focus GT5, get back to the racing and forget about having every car ever made. (do we really need F150 in a GT game?)
Shader @ Jul 17th 2008 9:44AM
This news isn't going to go down well. Saying that I'm still having loads of fun with prologue, and as long as the updates remain free I'm happy.
xcrunk @ Jul 17th 2008 9:45AM
sniff, sniff...too bad.
Oh well. I hope they update GT5P every so often with some cars, maybe a track or two....that would be nice.
mathias @ Jul 18th 2008 9:56PM
im gonna buy gt5 p in europe , you know since all ps3 games are region free lol, besides i cant wait till 2010
JayBlings @ Jul 17th 2008 9:52AM
By that time Forza 7 will be out and no one will care about GT5 anymore
The_Doctor @ Jul 17th 2008 10:06AM
Forza will never and i mean NEVER be able to match the GT franchise. You just cannot compare GT to anything else. It is, without hyperbole, in it's own field.
tifosiotaku @ Jul 17th 2008 10:45AM
The_Doctor, you're right. How many other racing sims claim to be "the real driving simulator" without car damage?
The_Punisher @ Jul 17th 2008 10:47AM
Forza 3 is going to have 2 disks. Imagine how many Forza 7 will have
xD
Rygar @ Jul 17th 2008 10:53AM
Do you think they'll have data installations for different regions, too?
;)
leatherface @ Jul 18th 2008 6:57PM
my friend that owns an XBOX3shitty loves the graphics of GT5. enjoy forza 3 or is it for the three disks it's coming with.
tan @ Jul 20th 2008 1:57PM
i like forza more than gt tbh with you alll.
i don't know why i do, i just like all the things u can do, all thought i admit there are flaws such as there only being like 10?tracks maybelol so it might get a bit repetative.
either way i wouldnt mind having to change disc when forza 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 comes out.
Topsu @ Jul 17th 2008 10:43AM
I hope that Nürburgring Nordschleife and the TopGear test track will be added in the next update. And ALL the episodes of TopGear to the GTtv, though I believe those will be the videos you'll have to pay for.
Miguel @ Jul 17th 2008 9:57AM
Booooooooo!
Kspraydad @ Jul 17th 2008 9:58AM
And GT Portable is to come after GT5 so...that would be 2011 now?
Screw that...I'm sure Codemasters is working on a GT killer right now.
(GT1/2/3/4/Prologue owner)
The_Doctor @ Jul 17th 2008 10:08AM
I've really been looking forward to this one. I hope some good things come out of Sony soon. I'm getting mighty disappointed :(
xcrunk @ Jul 17th 2008 10:15AM
I hate to say it, but it might be time to pick up that other console to hold me over.
Problem is, I hate Microsoft. I don't want to give them any money at all. None!!! Their EVIL.
The_Doctor @ Jul 17th 2008 10:24AM
yeh I gotta agree xcrunk. I've been looking at the elite. How much is it over there in the US? its around $650 of our aussie dollars.
farfisa @ Jul 17th 2008 10:26AM
It's starting to be a good thing that I can only play my PS3 for about 1/2 hour a week!
Rygar @ Jul 17th 2008 10:33AM
The Elite is $450 in NA, I believe. There's good games on both systems, can't really go wrong unless.
Vcize @ Jul 17th 2008 11:14AM
xcrunk, so buy used, then MS gets nothing.
Blair @ Jul 17th 2008 10:09AM
Give GT5 Prologue maps like "Top Gear Test Track" and "Nürburgring Nordschleife" along with damage and weather and I'll be happy.
HAAS599 @ Jul 17th 2008 10:31AM
I think that is their plan.
$40.00 for a game that continues to get better and better. Great deal if you ask me.
Riley Freeman @ Jul 17th 2008 10:10AM
when the hell is wrong with these guys. how long does it take to make a freaking game. u know the bad news is really piling up in the ps3. these people are gonna make ps3 owners hate their ps3. its a good thing i dotn care for gran turismo or id be pisseddddd
OAKside @ Jul 17th 2008 10:29AM
I'm a huge GT fan and am not pissed. After all, Prologue is fantastic. 2010 is a _tad_ long, and nobody hopes GT5 releases that late, but it's going to be the best racing game ever made so I can wait.
Jerses @ Jul 18th 2008 10:03PM
OAKside ... 2010 is not that long??? its like 2 years man. I know GT is all about realistic car simulation but come on... programing a racing game isnt that hard compared to a FPS.. its the same formula as always.. its like saying Fifa 2010 is coming for 2012 becuase they want to make the grass feels like real grass... they are losing the point in making this game. Prologue graphics lets face it... GRID looks the same. Oh and Its happening the same as the PSP version of GT4... delayed...delayed....delayed...cancelled.

freker @ Jul 17th 2008 10:19AM
Problem; What happens if no-ones bothered with Grand Turismo TV and just want to play the damn game?
Honestly as a huge selling point and IP of Sony and the Playstation; This really is beyond stupid. 2009 I could understand, but this is unacceptable.
Damn lucky I'm not interested in GT anyway; I'm personally more interested for a new Jak game to arrive.
davebo @ Jul 17th 2008 10:42AM
Fine, just keep us waiting forever. I was going to bypass Prologue and wait for the full game, but at this point I'll just wait and pick up GT5P when it's rereleased as a $20 PS3 Greatest Hits title :P
Attention Yamauchi : You're modeling too many cars! Don't waste a week modeling an exact replica of the interior of a 2002 Aixam Minivan 500.4 because we're not gonna drive it in the game anyway! Just release this thing by next spring!
HAAS599 @ Jul 17th 2008 10:33AM
I wish PD had a video store within the PSN store so I could download in the background.
I hate not being able to do anything while i download movies on GTTV.
mikemansor @ Jul 17th 2008 4:55PM
The August 1 update to Prologue will address that:
http://www.gran-turismo.com/en/gt5p/news/d2359.html
With the update you do a background download (8 simultaneous).
BLee @ Jul 17th 2008 10:52AM
Can't anyone give them a deadline? Perfecting a game? Games like MGS, Mario, Zelda would have never come out if they kept perfecting it..
This game isnt your personal art project only.. Its a job too.. get it finished
Iridium @ Jul 17th 2008 11:07AM
Prologue already has plenty of cars, it's the tracks that are missing.
I hope that GT5 alows you to customize the look of your car. That was really the only thing I liked about Forza, the rest of the game isn't even close.
I usually only drive a few cars in a GT anyway. I'd really like to make the ones I drive mine.
Albanian_Killa @ Jul 18th 2008 10:03PM
Fuck GTTV give me GT5 instead! I'm going to buy GT5: Prologue since Polyphony said that Summer 2009 was the latest in a PS.Blog response. I can't wait one whole year, so I'm buying GT5: P. If the updates are free, I'll be kept happy, but honestly, Forza 52 will be out by the time GT5 ships. Come on Polyphony, you're not a TV crew, you're a development crew.
Bucfann @ Jul 17th 2008 11:35AM
HA HAA!
maxpontiac @ Jul 18th 2008 10:05PM
I am trying to figure out what is worse.
The fact that GT5 could get delayed for another year, or the fact that Xbots continue to frequent this site with no intentions of actually contributing to it, unless you count mindless promotions of the RODbox..
Sorry, back to the topic at hand.
As long as PD gives a FREE updates and content, I won't mind the wait. Make the GT5 perfect, give me 1000's of cars, and create a masterpiece for the masses when it's all said and done.
Some of you need to realize the goodness that is on our way!
DoctorWho @ Jul 18th 2008 10:05PM
I remember reading around the GT5:P launch that damage would be implemented in an update due this fall. I assume this is what he's meaning by "updates" in addition to more cars/tracks?
If they charge for these updates there are going to be a lot of unhappy people. I'm already not too happy for spending $40 on something so.... unfinished.
haliotis81 @ Jul 17th 2008 1:12PM
I think the makers of this game GT5 is crazy. You will never made a perfect driving simulator game??? There is always the next upcoming driving simulator game. All you do is to make all PS3s fan wait and wait........ This is not fair to every PS3 users. I guess by the time the game is available PS3 is $129, the same price as PS2!!!!!!! Think about it......

I was really hoping to see Forza 3 and GT5 go head to head but Forza 3 hasn't been announce yet so they could be planning the same thing.
mikemansor @ Jul 17th 2008 4:50PM
Before 2010 means between now and 2010, which in my book means 2009. At the recent 24 hr Nurburgring, GT5P was shown with the Nordschleife on it and at this year's Le Mans, there was Le Sarthe. Those two tracks are a sure in in the next few updates. http://www.ferraricalifornia.com/webapp/ proves there's obviously a new relationship between PD and Ferrari which means more Ferraris in GT5P and hopefully the Fiorano test tracks. Of course this is mere speculation but the future for GT5 is looking pretty bright.
skin.bintin @ Jul 18th 2008 6:51PM
I decided to skip GT5:P and wait it out for the full GT5 mainly because after renting GT5:P I didn't feel as drawn to it as all the other GT games I love so much. I have a 360 also, and totally LOVE Forza 2. Although it doesn't have the variety of cars and tracks of the GT games, or the graphical beauty of GT5:P, it's physics model is second to none (on consoles atleast). I realise most people here will just dog it because it's on the competing console... But if you give it a good shot, Forza 2 really is an amazing, deep, involving game. It's looking even better now too, with yet another GT5 delay rolling out!
Still though, perhaps I should purchase GT5:P. Sadly I was expecting to see the full game by Christmas :(
Carl @ Jul 17th 2008 5:46PM
2010 very very disappointing if it turns out this way Sony needs to send pd some help, this game will be a 10 million seller it will make them a ton of money as well as pd. At the worse please be ready for christmas 09 PLEASE.
Mark @ Jul 18th 2008 6:56PM
ok this isnt a big surprise, so the delay doesnt really bother me. but what bothers me is the reason why it got delayed (cause of GT TV) i couldnt care less about that shit. thats what the Speed channel on tv if for. they should stick to working on games not test driving real cars...
