Rock Band 2 will support PS3 Trophies

There are still a number of features that Rock Band 2 will support on PS3 that wasn't found on the original Rock Band release. Dan Teasdale from Harmonix told Videogamer.com, "You're going to have voice chat, you're going to have complete integration with rockband.com, you're going to have trophies. We're going to make sure that PS3 gamers have just as great an experience."

Somehow "just as great an experience" doesn't seem to cut it when we're getting the game late.
Averna @ Jul 17th 2008 10:53AM
Well... RockBand still isnt available outside of the US on PS3.
Hooray for network cards and imports. Honestly, if they had released RockBand here (Australia) I would have bought the SE edition... and I probably would have bought the SE of Rockband 2 as well, to get the newer peripherals...
brampf @ Jul 17th 2008 10:42AM
By great experience does he actually mean have an experience at all?
I still can't buy Rock Band 1.
Fuck you Harmonix, Acitivision gets my money now not you.
MakaiOokami @ Jul 17th 2008 12:17PM
That's more... torment to you than Harmonix. Even if they aren't releasing it in Pal territories you can still import the game.
I would suggest PAL users make an online petition cause honestly... Activision may be releasing in your area, but the games suck. Like literally suck balls. Guitar Hero III got an 8, Aerosmith got a 7, and World Tour will probably have very little DLC support IF any...
You could always import the second game then borrow the first game long enough to import all the tracks for 5 dollars or I think like 2.5 pounds or what ever depending on where you live.
Seriously though, PS3 fanboy can't do a thing. If you really want the game you guys should be petitioning them.
brampf @ Jul 17th 2008 12:34PM
Why should I have to import a game?
If I lose out, fine. Frankly I don't care. Im not going to support a company by buying their products if they price gouge and delay games. Announce sequels months after the first game release in the case of Xbox or before the first game has even been released in the case of Playstation. Delay the Playstation in all regions to curry favour with one company.
Im not going to go out of my way to put money in their pocket regardless of how good the game is if they aren't prepared to actually make it easy to buy their product.
GH being rubbish? Maybe it is, I really like it but its not like I can actually compare it to anything else.
On the DLC thing. Great so if I want access to all this magic RB DLC I have to buy it from the US store which involves going out of my way even more to set up a virtual credit card or find PSN cards.
If someone came up to me, spat in my face then asked me to buy his delicious cakes I wouldn't. Regardless of how tasty they are.
bronz @ Jul 17th 2008 10:42AM
not a fan of gh or rb but this is nice to know that harmonix will show the ps3 version as much love as the 360 version
koehler83 @ Jul 17th 2008 10:44AM
Opinions of either game aside, I hope Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band 2 launch at pretty much the same time, and Activisions loyalty to their game and their fans and not to a console manufacturer proceeds to wipe the floor with Rock Band 2.
I expect the Wii in particular to bolster GH sales significantly. The PS2 will likely move a lot of units moving into the holidays and obviously PS3 owners will have no choice but to get GH or nothing.
Harmonix had a great opportunity to really warm up to me this time around with better peripherals and backward compatibility, instead they cock slap us for being non-Xbox owners. (temporary though it may be)
My "Fuck you Rock Band, Harmonix and EA" attitude persists.
Averna @ Jul 17th 2008 11:02AM
I kinda agree...
Im holding out hope that the ps3 version is only a few weeks behind the 360 version, which is kind of fair enough because the PS3 has a different architecture... *shrug* ... but I will be very pissed if they just leave it in limbo, like the non-us versions of rockband 1.
Im not buying another guitar hero though.
GRT @ Jul 18th 2008 10:04PM
I agree as well. Harmonix values Microsoft's money hats more than it values its PS3 customers. That's their call and their entitled to make it. I'm entitled to give RB 2 a pass and to immediately stop buying DLC for RB 1.
Fane @ Jul 17th 2008 5:20PM
Loyalty to the customer rather than to one manufacturer like allowing GH instruments to work on RB on the 360 but not on the PS3 (because M$ paid them royalties). That kind of loyalty?
Please.
dumpertaker @ Jul 17th 2008 10:49AM
Hmmm, another game with trophies....one day.
phillysigma @ Jul 17th 2008 10:50AM
This was a VERY VERY dumb business decision. Many gamers were gravitating towards RB over GH. and by pushing the ps3 version back( gamers are very very impatient BTW), we will be forced to get GH if we want to enjoy a new edition of a band game... This gives GH a chance to win over all its fans again.
DUMB MOVE RB!!!!!!!
Matt @ Jul 17th 2008 11:04AM
I think this is going to be another thing that hurts the PS3. I am pretty sure I won't be getting GH: World Tour, but I'm really excited about RB2 and I know I am going to be very impatient (as you said) when other people are playing the game and I have to wait. Honestly, the blu-ray player might be the only thing keeping me from getting rid of my PS3 right now for an xbox 360, and I don't even watch blu-ray movies on it very often. The free online is good too, but... I don't know... I'm realizing that the xbox 360 seems to have several advantages. I just know as soon as I decide to jump ship, something is going to make me regret it. The only good answer seems to be to get both, but I can't justify spending that much money.
Aozora @ Jul 17th 2008 12:52PM
@Matt
If you want a 360 get a 360, just don't whine about the PS3 in the process. I'm sick of whiners.
deaftly @ Jul 17th 2008 1:06PM
Matt I have both a PS3 and 360 and while they are both great systems, the 360 gets played much more, Jump In :)
Matt @ Jul 17th 2008 1:44PM
@ Aozora
Stop whining about my whining.
ChodalBerryWagon @ Jul 17th 2008 7:45PM
Wow, is that the first almost 'positive' comment I've ever heard out of you, Deaftly?
Michael @ Jul 18th 2008 7:40AM
Well since RB ships Oct. 19, and GT:WT ships Oct 27, RB is making a great business move because they are creating higher anticipation for PS3 owners, therefore they will buy whichever is first just to play, which is ROCK BAND!!! WOOOO
Jerses @ Jul 17th 2008 10:53AM
And it will only costo $299!!!! just for 60 songs and you have to spend extra $50 for the DLC. I made the mistake of buying the first one just for 60 tunes... got bored becuase i already heard does songs like a thousand times...sell it.. and buyed 3 new games.
Nate @ Jul 18th 2008 10:04PM
Dude, first, where did you see it would be $300? The premium drum set is going to be $300, but that's a completely independent thing.
And it's your own damn fault for refusing to buy DLC. It's not like there hasn't be a crap-ton of it. If you got bored of the songs, you should have bought more. They were pretty reasonably priced, and you could even share them with people to get the costs down.
And, if you'd kept your instruments, you'd now get the second game by just buying the disc. Oh well, your loss.
Kurai @ Jul 17th 2008 11:07AM
Better late then never. if HMX uses that money M$ paid them to further enhance the game experience, I'll gladly tough it out another few weeks, and I certainly welcome the extra time the ps3 version will get for development. As someone who works in a software product development environment, you can always use extra time to polish a product.
Eric E @ Jul 17th 2008 11:10AM
How about using the Freaking camera i bought and then everyone forgot about.
WELL!?
oOo BioShock oOo @ Jul 17th 2008 11:30AM
I'm glad they pushed it back, b/c it now gives me a chance to see which game will be better, RB 2 or GH 2.
Woz @ Jul 17th 2008 11:31AM
"We're going to make sure that PS3 gamers have just as great an experience"
It's sad that this even has to be said at all.
Andrew @ Jul 17th 2008 11:45AM
agreed!!
Nate @ Jul 17th 2008 12:04PM
Well finally they're not just gimping the PS3 version for no reason.
The lack of voice chat in V1 is just ridiculous. How are you supposed to play multiplayer when you can't even freakin' talk to each other?
And Trophy support is really awesome. The game already has so many reward systems, it's fantastic that the PS3 version won't be left behind in getting more of them.
captkey3s @ Jul 17th 2008 12:08PM
Dammit! I got RB for 360, i want Trophies but i refuse to re-buy all the damn instruments.
Pete @ Jul 17th 2008 12:35PM
The 360 has achievements. Basically the same thing as trophies. Why not get RB2 for the 360?
Stoo @ Jul 17th 2008 1:00PM
Microsoft securing exclusive windows and DLC on games is a shortsighted strategy I reckon.
They are investing their money in 3rd parties who are no longer willing to provide complete exclusivity because there is too much lost revenue that MS can't compensate for.
Instead they are getting what they can, which is timed exclusives and DLC.
Meanwhile Sony is investing in 1st party studios and 1st party games which not only mean more games for PS3 owners, but are going to be the best way that to provide exclusive games in the future.
Buying timed exclusives doesn't really provide a benefit to Xbox gamers, not like investing the money in new 1st party titles would. They seem to be about stifling the competition rather than giving their users more.
Fane @ Jul 17th 2008 5:24PM
Such is Microsoft's business plan. You don't think Windows gained a virtual monopoly because it was the best OS, do you?
Andrew @ Jul 18th 2008 10:04PM
I am really REALLY glad to see trophies in RB2, but the Xbox exclusive window is bullshit. As it has been stated in these comments gamers are very impatient. Impatient enough to go out and buy an xbox instead of waiting for two extra months to get there hands on RB2. Sony really needs to put an end to this kind of stuff. I can understand cross platform where everything is equal (as in price and release date) but this short exclusive release window is really just another step up for the xbox. Dont even get me started on the fact that is has been stated that the on the xbox version the RB drums will work with GHWT but no word on PS3.
