Different release dates for different versions of Rock Band 2
Yesterday we found out we are getting trophies, and today we might have the release dates. If the official online store for Rock Band franchise rockbandstore.com is to be believed, we have two different release dates for Rock Band 2 on our hands. The regular edition with just the game will be out on November 30th, according to the pre-order page. While first time rockers and those who have the dough for another set of plastic instruments will start jammin' away sooner on October 19th.
These dates correspond with what we saw on Amazon before, who also has both versions for pre-order, with the Special Edition even-so-slightly cheaper at $10 off. How do you guys feel about this? The Xbox 360 versions will arrive the same day in September. Is this Harmonix's way of making more money off impatient PS3 owners? Though at least we aren't Wii owners, who will have to wait till November 18th to get any version of the game.
[Thanks, Wes!]
[Update: Looks like Amazon has changed it up again since yesterday -- the regular version of the game now has a release date of October 19th as well.]

frigging Microsoft...first Final Fantasy 13 and now Rock Band 2?
What's next?...O I know, it's being partners with universal so that we can have every movie company on the movie store BUT them.
what else are they going to buy out? any opinions?
Autopsy15 @ Jul 18th 2008 2:36PM
Microsoft bought our opinions too.
Confucious @ Jul 18th 2008 11:28AM
If this doesn't change, it's utter crap. Hell, when Rock Band 1 was released, they had stand-alone copies of the game which made no sense because you had no way of getting controllers without the special edition.

What about us Europeans who still don't have the bloody first one?
lesisking @ Jul 18th 2008 11:10AM
No european ps3 release date yet maybe by RB6 we might get RB in europe or am I being optimistic?
Brodie-san @ Jul 18th 2008 11:13AM
They better hurry up or the arthritis in my wrists is going to cause havoc with my blast-beats.
lesisking @ Jul 18th 2008 11:11AM
I agree mate

It sucks, but at least we will have a butt load of Rock Band 2 DLC when it comes out for us. (assuming they will start regular weekly DLC when it comes out for the 360, which no one has talked about...yet.)
Kurai @ Jul 18th 2008 11:34AM
It's just going to be the weekly dlc we already get for RB1, it's not like they're coming out with a second set of weekly dlc just for RB2, it's cross compatible after all.
Granted I'm assuming that's the case, but it's the most logical course of action.

the link to amazon says that both versions of the ps3 are coming out october 19th. so it does not correspond to the rockband website.
c.m.birkholz @ Jul 18th 2008 11:29AM
That's too bad for the euro. ps3 owners.....I don't understand why there releases are so far behind in the video game world but technology and general gadgetry you guys got 3 years on us. As for the 2 different dates....this is crap. Why do you make it so hard to be loved Sony?
GRT @ Jul 18th 2008 12:04PM
How do you twist this into being Sony's fault?
Kicking the loyal PS3 Rock Band owner in the teeth, that's all this is. GH 4 is looking better all the time.
matthew_neitzer @ Jul 18th 2008 11:28AM
That is ridiculous. Harmonix, give me a reason for these 'delays.' Microsoft gave you some 'help.' What would be so hard about releasing the game disc day and date with the special edition. Way to screw your supporters that bought all the instruments the first time. It is bad enough we have to wait another month! (Sorry to all you people around the world who don't even have it yet.)
nakedatthecomp @ Jul 18th 2008 12:03PM
regardless of release date... i'm so fucking excited for this!!!! Painkiller!!!!!
mribnthewind @ Jul 18th 2008 1:39PM
Personally I will be waiting for Guitar Hero! Ive played Rock Band and I perfer Guitar Hero. Rock Band seemed a little too easy! Guitar Hero is more of a challenge. And with this whole release date stuff.....it just made Guitar Hero look even better for me.
Dolemite @ Jul 18th 2008 2:34PM
Rock Band might have seemed easier than Guitar Hero if you're comparing the notecharts for the guitar parts. The game is supposed to be played with other people, so the songs won't be as guitar oriented as GH is.
KEFIOX @ Jul 18th 2008 2:51PM
So if I want to get the Ion drums (assuming they come out around the time of the game) I have to wait over a month to get 'just the game' or I have to buy the bundle and have to drumsets at my house.
Johnny Lasley @ Jul 18th 2008 11:26PM
Things like this makes me not want to buy a game I'm teethering on the edge of getting. And I was liking the ION drum set too.
Not much of Rock Band's or Guitar Hero's music selection appeals to me. They could broaden the selection greatly...at least in DLC.
Parsnipzilla @ Jul 20th 2008 3:02AM
You think you guys have got it bad?
We, the New Zealand public, STILL haven't got ANY Rock Band....
AT ALL!
