Famed Nintendo designer Miyamoto checks out Killzone 2
Nintendo's famed game designer Shigeru Miyamoto may be known for his involvement in casual games, such as Wii Sports and Nintendogs. But, let's not forget his involvement in hardcore series, such as the original Mario and Zelda games. It looks like he made his way over to Sony's E3 show floor and checked out Killzone 2. Considering the amount of hype Guerrilla's FPS has received, we aren't surprised that a man like him would take some time to see what the PS3 is capable of doing. We wonder if he walked away impressed.
[Thanks, Fernando R.!]

Besides being utterly awesome, this game will be the best looking game of current gen consoles
Big Ed @ Jul 18th 2008 6:14PM
And how would you know that?
Jack Tretton @ Jul 18th 2008 6:44PM
You said that a month ago about MGS 4, didn't you?
Arnon @ Jul 19th 2008 3:01AM
I'm honestly going for Farcry 2 > Killzone 2...
monkeywithnoeyes @ Jul 18th 2008 6:11PM
really didnt look impressed.. and who can blame him?
tmontana213 @ Jul 18th 2008 8:49PM
And you can tell this from a 40 second video with a shaky cam and youtube quality? Not to mention the fact that there isn't a real good shot of his face...
Jettic @ Jul 20th 2008 7:14PM
Well duhh, if he wasn't jumping up and down and screaming that he loved Kz2 and Sony, then he's obviously disappointed.
Phantom @ Jul 21st 2008 9:44AM
Or maybe he surpressed his felling to keep his job .
sicklesdawg @ Jul 18th 2008 6:05PM
that's some major respect for Guerrilla! =)
Jerses @ Jul 18th 2008 6:08PM
He was checking his next purchase, next e3 we will see killzone 2 trailer right at the end of nintendo conference... :P i was thinking... and square enix was braging about the ps3 and telling that no other console in the market is capable of doing those graphics bla,bla,bla..but then its comingo for 360...so that means... devs are lazy and they can do any game with great graphs they just need talent (and a little money) to make a great looking game for any console.
Momba14 @ Jul 18th 2008 6:14PM
killzone is made by sony so Nintendo cant have it.
Rodrigo @ Jul 18th 2008 6:17PM
"He was checking his next purchase"hahaha hahaha dude dat was so funny!!!! i want killzone 2!!!
CJLopez @ Jul 21st 2008 1:24PM
That's not possible impossible. I read somewhere that Miyamoto is a huge fan of some games PS3 has right now, and he has one on his home.
I mean, that you work on a gaming industry, doesn't mean you can't product from your opponents. Recognizing your opponents work something remarkable and to be respected. Something Neither Sony nos M$ will get from many gamers. Telling how the Wii is a fad or a virus is not something to respect, is just show how misserable they feel about their consoles being beaten by the competitor.
I may had sound fanboyish, yeah, i'm already wearing my anti flame suit (Fantastic 4 trademark, xD), but still, there is a war going on right now, and I don't see nintendo trying to make seem bad their competitors, i get to see em trying em out and checking what they have. I can assure that if M$ was the first to introduce the self portrait on the internet system they named Avatars and nintendo came after and copied, M$ would had sued nintendo. It was the way around and what did Miyamoto-sama said? "I feel flattered"
doc j @ Jul 18th 2008 6:09PM
Now that is an interesting juxtaposition.
KarlW @ Jul 18th 2008 11:21PM
It was also submitted by Fernando Rocker. Did I wake up in an alternate universe or something?
dbyzforce @ Jul 18th 2008 6:12PM
I would have prefered to see a video to his reaction of Little Big Planet. I would wonder what he thinks of that game...
Dwag @ Jul 18th 2008 6:13PM
@Jerses
What? I only got the first word.
I believe if Killzone 2 make Guerilla millions its bye bye they'll jump ship like Bungie.
Miyamoto is just seeing if it can live up to the hype.
HanzoTheRazor @ Jul 18th 2008 9:46PM
@Dwag, Sony bought Guerilla and own 100%. M$ owens the Halo franchise and is kinder still in control of Bungie. All the deal was was to let Bungie have more free rain. So, no, Bungie never JUMPED SHIP it was M$ decision, and Guerilla IS Sony. This is why Guerilla have stepped it right up.
aristokrat @ Jul 18th 2008 10:14PM
Um, rain is always free, so you might be talking about rein or reign, depending upon which version you prefer (though I believe rein is technically correct). Also, kinder =/= kind of.
Dwag @ Jul 19th 2008 5:19AM
@aristokrat
Let the man live with his mistakes
@HanzoTheRazor
Sure that could be possible but Bungie knows where to go if they wanna make money and thats M$/MS and Bungie did jump ship cause they aren't MS owned another meaning if they wanna make a new IP on the Wii then they can. I believe Guerilla could jump ship cause if Killzone 2 doesn't make them millions then why still develop for em? They won't they'll either leave or buy the company from Sony.
Mr Khan @ Jul 18th 2008 6:14PM
He has always been fascinated by the FPS genre
Dwag @ Jul 18th 2008 6:22PM
He kinda looks like he's going 'meh nothing can beat the Wii'.
phuphroo @ Jul 18th 2008 6:34PM
hes probably thinking to himself "@#$%! i should have known that graphics in video games DO matter!
HanzoTheRazor @ Jul 18th 2008 9:51PM
Hahahahaha!
cycopl @ Jul 18th 2008 6:38PM
Yeah! Miyamoto needs to ditch nintendo and start making some PS3 games now.
JeiShi @ Jul 18th 2008 6:40PM
Miyamoto playing the PS3=AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
heckteck @ Jul 18th 2008 6:46PM
i remember that an article said Reggie admited that Little Big Planet was on the wrong console
Calmojo @ Jul 18th 2008 6:48PM
lmao Stalker-cam or what? if you watch, when Miyamoto looks at the camera man, he moves the camera like hes watchin the screen :P
Xtechnolgy @ Jul 18th 2008 6:55PM
killzone on wii... lol
biggrapp @ Jul 18th 2008 6:58PM
who was the cowardly camera man(?) that panned away when Miyamoto turned toward the camera? that was funny. scaredy cat camera guy.
Tristan @ Jul 18th 2008 7:25PM
Apart from their not being much more in the way of news, I think this is quite interesting. It would be funny if he secretly has a PS3 in his home and other systems. No one ever knows what these guys themselves play. Game developers and designers, and produces never reveal what they like and enjoy.
Dwag @ Jul 18th 2008 8:16PM
They don't want you knowing where they got there ideas from. I think the Nintendo people generally stick with Nintendo consoles I believe they are that loyal but Sony and MS people probably go on each others console and see which features they want to copy next.
Comtar @ Jul 18th 2008 7:35PM
I'm currently more impressed with Resistance 2 then Killzone 2. I would have been Meh at Killzone 2 also, but been like WHOA to Resistance 2... maybe I just need to see more of Killzone 2...
Xoonaka @ Jul 18th 2008 10:00PM
Just for the sake of fun, let's assume he didn't just want to "check out the hype". Let's assume it was research and he only spent his time on it because someone told him to go check out "X" about it.
So with these assumptions either Killzone 2 has some pretty unique and well implemented motion controls (Did I see a valve turn in there?) or.... Nintendo's next Wii Sports title will have a lot of Hunting Games! Wii Sports Lodge!
ACEDOH @ Jul 18th 2008 9:10PM
Do some of you guys really think the game developers are as fervent about their homeconsoles as Fanboy's??? The reason they develop games is because they love games. Just like Athletes, musicians, and other artists. They appreciate the art and talent that goes into the product. I am sure most game developers have all the consoles because they can afford them. I am sure Miyomato played his share of Sonic in the 90's and I am sure he has played plenty of games on the 360 and PS3...
Dwag @ Jul 18th 2008 9:26PM
If some just do it for the money.
HanzoTheRazor @ Jul 18th 2008 9:30PM
@ACEDOH, your right. Ofcourse they would own and play all games, only makes too much sence. I think if he is there looking at a Sony game, it is a complement in it's self!
HanzoTheRazor @ Jul 18th 2008 9:36PM
@Dwag, are u aware that M$ has offered Miyamotosan any amount of money and benafits he wants, to jump ship and make M$ exclusives? You know his answer, right? So, is money all that matters to everyone?I guess M$'s endless bribes have limits.
grunto @ Jul 18th 2008 9:49PM
Damn u PS3fanboy, ur getting my hopes up just to be horribley let down about Miyamoto liking the PS3 and maybe dev'ing on it based on KZ2 performance. No matter how good any game is on any console i believe Miyamoto is Nintendo loyal. Then again I thought that about Squenix.
If for any reason Miyamoto does dev on the PS3, he will be horrible at it. He doesnt know what developing for a "real" console is. All he knows is cutsey, lack luster visuals on a not so next-gen Nintendo Wii.
SkeetSkiLee @ Jul 18th 2008 11:54PM
shame on you! for saying such stupid stuff. Visuals on game can easily be upgraded. its the gameplay Miyamoto is known for. If he can do it on the wii, I bet you that he can easily do anything else on any console.
Brodie-san @ Jul 19th 2008 1:28PM
Considering you've never posted before let me explain why you can barely see your comment anymore.
When talk NONSENSE they get voted down. You've just insulted one of the most well resected game producers (if not *the* most well respected) in the industry.
Show some respect. The man is a legend.
John @ Jul 19th 2008 10:12PM
Nah. I would love to see him do a Mario on ps3. Maybe 2012.
vask @ Jul 18th 2008 9:55PM
he had to have been impressed if he took his time out to check it out. its not like it was the first time they demonstrated the game anyhow he must be real intrigued by it.
exetermako @ Jul 18th 2008 11:23PM
My guess is that he hated it with a passion. I've already heard that he doesn't play modern games anymore, so I'd think an ultra-high-def and ultra-high-tech FPS would probably get on his nerves.
SkeetSkiLee @ Jul 18th 2008 11:45PM
this game's been blessed with the power of Miyamoto! lol but from i what can see(barely) he never took he's eye off the game, most of the time(a sign of interests?) he even had someone talking to him... i think but paid more attention to the game. but that's what i saw in the video.
Dwag @ Jul 21st 2008 2:18PM
HanzoTheRazor
Man first off all would you stop with M$ buys everything it gets pretty old man seriously? You keep sounding like a dumb Fanboy, I mean seriously I've read a lot of your comments and none of them seem to be anything good about MS other than a few exclusives to you but yet everything Sony does is godly you have no criticisms for any of there games not even when its just a generic. Do you own a 360? Did it RRoD on you so everything MS does is hated by you or is it just blinded Fanboyism for a console that you miss out on the exclusive games other consoles have to offer?
Come on man like seriously you think MS has that much money? I bet you use some MS products but yet you and others act as if they are evil. Do you truley think that if MS offered Sony a merger that wouldn't do it? LOL if you think not. I doubt they'll offer him a deal after seeing that he makes more money then anything they can offer him.
Reality is some companies go to MS cause they know money can be made there. MS may shell out big bucks for companies but oh yeah so does Sony and you know what I'm glad MS pays for shit it shows they fucking care it shows they are willing to put a billion to get that RRoD problem fixed, it shows that those Exclusive to other platforms get to see light on the box, it shows that my fifty bucks paying for online ain't going to fucking waste. All sides of this Fanboy faction are just getting plain retarded. I go to PS3fanboy to get news on PS3 games and shit(read comments, comment myself on the news, see the reaction of that comment and so on.) not to read a bunch of comments that have only idiots hyping up a game and then on release it fails and I'm like I told ya so cause I actually saw a head of all the hype and actually thought about why the game might do bad so if it does I already expected it and not to such a huge letdown.
hedpe @ Jul 19th 2008 7:32AM
he's taking notes. mario fps coming soon.
MrDaBucket @ Aug 4th 2008 7:37PM
5 bucks says when asked he pretends not to know what Killzone 2 is, and once again, only give credit to "his own" games.
William @ Jul 20th 2008 12:26PM
Lol, I hope he impressed by Killzone 2.
