Keep in mind "overall" PS3 operations means more than simply selling the console. This means peripherals, software, and downloadable titles will contribute as well. It might not seem like something important to the gamer population, but unless the PS3 can do this, shareholders and other decision-makers may start to question the longevity of the console. We're not worried, though.

GTAV wont be the next game. A number release means a new engine, generally, and there isnt anything inheritly wrong with the engine they have now.
We will get chapter releases, like all of the GTA games on the GTA3 engine.

Sony's biggest problem is PS3 OWNERS! Simply put, they dont buy games. Very few games are million sellers, especially compared to the amount of million sellers Wii and 360 has. If people bought games Sony would make money and 3rd party's would make exclusives for PS3. Look at the 360, its not losing exclusives...

He's not saying there are no games worth buying on PS3, which is what a true 360 fanboy would say. Just that people don't tend to buy them in very large numbers.

actually, i see a quite a few good titles coming up. more good titles than my college wallet can handle, it's not that the games are bad but my wallet is thin. so far, i'm definitely getting Valkyrie Chronicles, White Knight Story, Little Big Planet, Wipeout, Disega 3. At this rate, I might need to sell my wallet just to squeeze out a few dollar

Profit = not losing money. They got a long way to go to actually MAKE money from the ps3.

I meant that Sony is still in a ~$3 billion debt. Making a couple bucks a months isn't exactly something to cheer about.
Still, i'll be supporting them $60 at a time (more for a LE of R2 or GoW3)

His point is that Sony's accumulated losses (aka: investments) from PS3 so far will take a long time to recoup, even if the system does begin turning a profit next year. Although there is a lot of truth to that statement, it would be good news for Sony if their PS3 investment can "turn the corner" this fiscal year.

As far as I'm concerned, Sony is its worst enemy when it comes to making money from the PS3. They should have had an iTunes competitor and video download service nearly 2 years ago. It really looks like Sony is making it up as it goes along this generation.

Stop promising and start delivering. This is something Sony needs to learn. They have shot themselves in the foot in regards to people wanting to own the console because they keep delaying stuff that they said would be out. They are behind this generation and they need to step it up by bringing out more original, fun, creative, etc. IP's earlier rather than later if they continue to lose (what used to be) 3rd party exclusives. If the more time they on games take adds just as much or more to the fun-factor then I'm all for it, but to take a long time because programming is harder or they don't have enough "resources" to do it is a reason I won't feel sorry for. Sony, profit will come soon, but you can't make profit until you start offering consumers more than the competition.

I've committed to my PS3 since I got it when Metal Gear came out, I've pretty much made my transition from 360 to PS3. So Sony gets majority of my business now, don't let me down Sony!

Granted I have been trashing PS3 for the past week. However, its not because I am a 360 fanboy, its because I call it how I see it. In the past I sung the praise of the PS3. But now I am at the point where Sony is pissing me off. Its because I LOVE the PS3 that I b*tch soo much. That might not make sense to you but it does. Ex: A parent is harder on their kids than the neighbors because they want/expect better.
And dont EVER say I praise the Wii. Now that system I COMPLETELY HATE and think will lead to the downfall of Hardcore Gaming.
If I had my way PS3 would have all the great games and I would never touch my 360. But at the moment I have no choice.
If it seems like I am sucking off M$ its only because I call it like I see it and right now (unfortunately) they have the better system for gaming.

How is 360 better for gaming? because more of your friends play on it? Able to talk to others outside of a game?
Pretty much any game on 360 will be coming to PS3 or PC same day or sometime soon, so.....I don't see what it is offering over PS3 currently...
Gears 2, Fable 2 are great "exclusives" but they won't be enough IMO to make it "better" than PS3.

Sony said last year that they were starting to make a profit on a quarterly basis. That wasn't quite enough to generate a profit on a yearly basis though. So this announcement is slightly different.
Not that its a big deal. A lot of companies take an R&D hit when introducing a new product. A lot of companies also take hits on specific products, if it means selling more of other products. So its not really a big deal if the PS3 alone is losing money, if it gets people to buy more software and peripherals. This is why Sony is always talking about the ten year plan.

I believe Sony on this one I have a feeling that that big announcement at SE's party is FFXIII released in JP by the holidays and done PS3 just sold another five million especially with the lower price and lower production cost I believe they made a profit.

I also want to say is PS3 has already got the 360 beat in my opinion, they gain ground so quick on the 360 that its not even funny. What is it like 19 mill to 14 mill and MS had the head start damn. PS3 will take second place and if they wanna milk it like they are doing the PS2 then yeah they basically made a profit. PS3 is 2nd place with 360 3rd is my solid prediction.
Don't get me wrong the 360 is doing good but it was obvious from the start they were doing a 3 console strategy and frankly its working pretty well so even if they lose again they can win the next gen. They already gained the market percentage(if VGchartz is to believed) they need so now basically they can focus on trickling out some good 360 games until 2011 when they release that new console(Blu Ray include and probably they actually got nVidia back on board from what i've heard) Also they can start throwing money into studios instead of third parties they need a good in house development team like Nintendo and Sony if they plan on winning anything next gen.

Well nVidea oined Sony because M$ went with Xeneon and as long as Xeneon is around nVidea wont get back in. And blue ray is tricky since Sony has a big part in saying on who gets BD. Yes Sony would make a profit of every BD sold but keep in mined by 2011 Sony wont be needing that extra profit anymore. Not to mention Sony probably doesn't want a Gaming console/BD player competition. And besides M$ already said "digital download will be the future".... And at the moment M$ owns 31% of the gaming market, however beginning 08 that # was 35% so M$ lost 4% in 6 month and Sony gained 2% if this keeps up Sony will own the greater % by mid 09. so to be honest i dont think M$ will ever win any console war (and its probably better that way)

Kinda believe you're wrong with thinking MS shouldn't win a console war.
I believe nVIDIA will make a graphics chip for MS just for the money and ATi will go with Nintendo and that Sony will give BD to MS I mean come on sure Sony wants to make money and to make that money they will give in to MS but what I'm thinking and so far everything is on track is that MS and Sony will caloborate on a system together(I know far fetched but its looking like its gonna happen more and more) called PSX(sounds cool in my head).
PSX will be a colaboration of MS and Sony and will be the most technogically advanced game machine alive maybe even beating some high end PCs and they will go against Nintendo's newly innovative high end machine proving that high end machinery and innovation go together.
Sony and MS colobarating=best thing for the world. MS will be the never ending money half of the operating while Sony will deal with the rest and both will deal with the console,marketing and software.
Nintendo's Console will still be a match for PSX(I know there has been a console called PSX but they'll find someway to make it work).

I can't see this happening.
For one, PSX was already a system in Japan. Two, the two push each other too much. Hell "hardcores" said the N should of stopped after gamecube but look at it now!!
One can't expect to hit gold every time and right now I really think the "in" thing to do is to bash sony. However I think later down the line we will be the ones laughing. IMHO of course :D.

For 600 dollars, I got a blu ray player, wifi built in, i can put in any hard drive I want, I can use memory sticks, I can use usb etc.
for 400 I have to still BUY a wifi adaptor for xbox, an hd dvd player add on, pay 50 dollars a year for xbl, use their add ons and etc. on top of worrying about RROD.
So no. Let sony charge 600, it cost them well over that to make the damn console, unlike microsoft who ships out garbage then expects you to pay more money after you've made the purchase.
