The Last Remnant roundtable discussion: still no PS3 release date

Don't let the subject line fool you -- while there's still no firm release date set for The Last Remnant on the PS3, it's coming and it's about time we learned a little more about the game. A bunch of press members sat down with the game's producer, Nobuyuki Ueda, then tried to get some information about the game's battle system and storyline. We'll summarize the important bits and let you decide if you want to read the whole thing.

The game is supposed to appease both Western and Japanese gamers. English development is ahead of Japanese, so the English dub is proceeding along smoothly, Ueda says. The battles are as large-scale or as small-scale as you'd like. You have control over five "unions" with five members in each union, but it seems like you directly control either one at a time or the leader of each union during battles.

Once battle starts, a timer is in place that'll signify when more enemy units will join in the brawl. The greater the number of enemies you choose to encounter, the greater the reward. Think of the DS title The World Ends With You to get an idea what they're going for. The morale meter does not indicate rewards; it helps you see how well other units will pay attention to your orders. While the game sounds like it keeps many traditional RPG elements, it also sounds like it may be more hands-off than expected. We don't know for sure, so we'll not make any judgments until we play it for ourselves.

MS has been spendin glots of $$$ to get these square games, its sad that square has yet to release a ps3 but has al these 360 games planned, they realy are screwing us over. Im gonna be looking at other companies for RPG's, like SEGA with Valkyria Chronicles.

No, you should buy several copies of all their PS3 games instead! That way they’ll realise that there is no need to bring their games to XBox360 as well, and that exclusive software on the PS3 sells plenty :).

I agree henry huge bs if they really end up making us wait on the xbox version of final fantasy 13. I know that they are saying both will be done at same time, but I don't that as being possible unless they wait to do traslation on ps3. As for this game man I am stoked hopefully the wait won't be too long.

The terrible Unreal Engine is the cause of the delays on PS3. I wish developers would just stop using it. Many developers have had problems with it, it dosen't seem to work well on PS3.

Right or wrong, like it or not, Square has to consider that much of their news as of late is going to piss off *some* of their North American PS3 fan base. You can tell people to go buy a 360 as much as you like, but when it comes down to the business side of things, there are always PR ramifications.

I don't know much about this game, but from what I read above it seems to me this is going to be like a pretty version of Bladestorm.

First off I want to say I also think this entire S-E problem is total BS. Honestly if any Xbox fanboy even thinks for a second that S-E "choose" 360 with out a huge M$ pay off think again. Even one of the big wigs at Sony acknowledged a big pay off:

I sincerely hope to hear something about the PS3 version of this game along with other RPG related announcements at TGS. I did expect White Knight at E3 this year but you can bet it will show up at TGS, Japan is the better place to show off RPG's from a business stand point.

Yes this may make us mad but u cant blame square they have to go where the money goes and besides the ps3 is at the bottom of the sales charts where come 2009 we shouldnt be for much longer
