It's over. E3 has come to an end and the Sony camp has stolen the show. To some people. To others, they did nothing. Still others claim their opinion lies somewhere in the middle. Today, the Poll Police are putting these different opinions to the test: will more people think back on E3 positively or negatively? How did you feel about this year's E3 for Sony?
We looked back at everything that was announced or displayed at the Sony press conference and there actually was quite a bit worthwhile mentioned. However, did the
Final Fantasy XIII announcement overshadow a smattering of decently good things? Were the Sony offerings not your cup of tea? Whatever your reason, it is justified simply because it is
your opinion. That's what matters.
Our last poll relied on your opinions, too, and look how that turned out.
[Update: we had a snafu where two polls were displayed. The error has been corrected and we apologize for any inconvenience and confusion.]
It turned out well. A lot of you voted and a lot of you agree -- the troubles people had with upgrading to firmware 2.40 was largely an internet-related phenomenon. Over 87% of you experienced no trouble or didn't get to download the update at all. There you have it, then: most of us were fine, but we probably got a little worried. Thanks for voting!

I said worst E3 ever. But it also had to do with Nintendo and Microsoft too. This E3 there was nothing that really wowed me. There were rumors that God of War would make a showing and it did. I am not a shooter fan so seeing more shooter games like MAG were a let down to me. The only thing that really wowed me and makes me thing MS won was because they stole FFXIII and if the rumors are true they payed a lot for it and that makes me sink.
But if this site is to me trusted MS really payed a lot for FFXIII and so all I can hope is that MS does not get FFvXIII too.

Main question is whether Resistance 2 can get polished up a bit more to be even more compelling than Gears of War 2
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Jul 20th 2008 8:24PM
I was quite dissapointed by the show, expected a lot more.
kiwidust @ Jul 20th 2008 8:38PM
It was mediocre all around. MS really "won the show" but not for the reasons people are talking about. The redesign and avatar system looks well-done, the Netflix annoucment was a coup and the "You're in the movies" game just drills home that Sony's left one of its greatest assets, the Eye, out in the cold.
The FF XIII announcement is nice on paper, but does nothing in practice. Nothing's changed in Japan (where it really matters) and the game won't even be out for as long as two years (which means perhaps three years for English localization). By then the game just isn't going to matter.
Sony did have some nice things... but nothing great. "Little Big Planet" as Powerpoint was one of the cleverest things ever... but then they didn't mention the game. They gave "Resistance 2" some time... but totally ignored multiplayer and PSN integration. "Home" was noticably absent along with any mention of the Eye, a new game from Team Ico or any of a dozen other things (20 Seconds of pre-render does NOT count as "showing" God of War).
The video store annoucement was nice (and the video store works exactly as you'd expect it to) but the bottom line is that we're still playing catch-up to the competition.
Wes @ Jul 20th 2008 11:41PM
The video store imo does not work exactly as expected. There's a big puff on engadgethd about there being only stereo sound on rental movies. No 5.1 audio like on said competition.
Not that surround sound is bad or anything as we put up for it on regular tv for years and years. It sounded pretty good back then and sounds not bad even today. It just doesn't seem next-generation. Stereo sound seems somehow game cube/n64 as even the ps2 and original xbox support more than 2.0 channels.

Not a bad E3! With all of the coverage from multiple sites and G4's hours of coverage, I personally got to see all of the games I've been psyched about, plus got excited for many more (inFamous and MAG, anyone?).

Thought it was fine, nothing special, but certainly not crap like half the crybabies were claiming.
I dont look at E3 as 'whats there that i want' but more what interests me and what i think is good for the future of the PS3, and i think people just ignored most of what went on during the conference and expected to hear about tons of new projects, but the thing is most of it gets leaked beforehand, or is kinda expected.
If you insist on knowing what your getting for xmas, dont be disappointed when you open all the presents and theres no suprise there. I think theres too many spoilt little brats who want to know everything and still be suprised by dozens of things which they want, and god forbid something is announced which isnt of interest to them but is to others, thats just a waste of time.
E3 just confirmed for me the reasons why i bought a PS3, its too hard keeping everyone happy throughout the year while still holding back stuff for E3, and similar events, i just enjoy seeing where things are at and where they're heading.
Alex @ Jul 20th 2008 9:35PM
i too expected more from Sony's conference.
i watched that whole thing and came out thinking, "huh?"
aside from little big planet, nothing really stood out for me.
i'm sure resistance 2 and killzone is hyping up other people, but definitely not me. understandably, they stayed mum about the FFXIII announcement neglecting to even mention it at all.
i was hoping they had something. something to tell the audience, "alright, we lost FXIII exclusivity. but check these out!" i didn't really get that from their presentation.
but then, that's because i'm not into shooters which made up a core of their PS3 exclusives.
KarlW @ Jul 20th 2008 9:37PM
I hoped for more, but it wasn't a particularly bad showing by Sony. It just lacked that something special.
That said, we're supposedly due for a great time in Leipzig. 12 announcements to be made, or something like that.
I'm actually in Leipzig now. Leaving next week. I've been to the GC for the last couple years, but thought it's be the usual E3 rehash and didn't bother to stay for it. Kicking myself now.
cristian @ Jul 20th 2008 9:51PM
Why don't you use Engadget poll system? I don't like being redirected...
Anyway, the only game I had my hopes to get some new content was FFXIII, and the only thing about it was 360 will also get and a trailer that showed nothing new.
It was kind of bad.
Seminole @ Jul 20th 2008 10:03PM
While the true impact of losing FFXIII isn't that big (we still get the game, big deal), the psychological impact was huge. While Sony pretty much matched Microsoft with their conference, they really needed something to take away the effect of losing FFXIII exclusivity. They didn't have anything that could do that, so they were overshadowed by Microsoft.
David @ Jul 22nd 2008 9:42PM
it was ok, though i felt like sony were holding a lot of stuff back. there were a lot of games that weren't shown at all.
A person @ Jul 20th 2008 10:31PM
It wasn't the best and it wasn't the worst. There seemed to be a lot more hands-on demos, but nothing huge came out of it either. I said it was okay.
dontlikeitmodit @ Jul 20th 2008 10:54PM
The media blitz is what is killing E3. Every outlet that uses advertising to make money needs to push as much out of E3 as they can. Even if its crap.
I don't understand why the producers and developers don't hold their own events. Do they feel that in the information age we need people physically all in one place? How 80s.
OddyOh @ Jul 20th 2008 11:20PM
More than enough shooters...boring...Sony's PSN HD download of Part 2 of the press conference is framed incorrectly. Jack's head is cut off just above the eyes... :( Parts 1 and 3 or ok though.

I had the filling that I wached the same thing one year before. Almost all the title where shown one year before.
But the additions like Fat princess , Rag doll kung fu where the best of the show. I also felt good with inFamous and I really respect the thing that they haven't overloaded as with news the past year.
Roto13 @ Jul 21st 2008 1:14PM
I voted "worst E3 ever" without reading the question properly. xP It was the worst E3 ever overall. But I think we all remember Sony's worst E3 ever. >_>
