Watch LittleBigPlanet's Sackboy battle a boss
There hasn't been too many continuous gameplay videos of LittleBigPlanet, but here's one that's getting us even more excited for this upcoming PS3 exclusive.
The video starts with Sackboy jumping over some obstacles and platforms, but soon encounters a small boss battle. Machines attempt to attack Sackboy with what appears to be bombs. In addtion to avoiding the explosives, Sackboy uses a contraption that bounces the bomb back at the machine when timed correctly.
We get the vibe of an awesome Genesis-era Sonic boss battle from the video, but how about you guys watch it and tell us your thoughts.
[Thanks, GhostViper!]

Everytime I watch these little sackboys (sackpeople?), I get this dumb smile across my face :) Can't wait!
Brett from Atlanta @ Jul 20th 2008 9:18AM
I'm right there with you. somehow, little big planet has the ability to tap into everyone's inner child and keep us all smiling.
NotSafe4Work @ Jul 20th 2008 11:15AM
hope they give away sackboys with game purchases
spyker @ Jul 20th 2008 12:55PM
Hmm.. maybe a preorder gift. EPIC.
ModderFokker @ Jul 20th 2008 9:29AM
Getting the same warm feeling as when i opened my atari in 1954 :D (...ok a but later)
Awesome game with unending gameplay (through user created levels).
crazypenguin @ Jul 20th 2008 9:37AM
i can't wait for this. and this video is something i keep thinking about how a boss battle happens. this is awesome. i might not make levels a lot, but objects there will be millions!
Sauvage @ Jul 20th 2008 10:02AM
They need to take a page out of the Spore cook-book and release a PC level editor before the final release. That way when the actual game comes out, there will be tonnes of levels already available.
stargateheaven @ Jul 20th 2008 10:06AM
Thanks to the beta, there already will be! :) along with the original levels that come on the disc!
Let's just hope there is no install for this game!
install + custom stickers + DLC = byebye HDD space.. :(
KarlW @ Jul 20th 2008 10:08AM
That animation is stupendously good. When he's pulling the bouncing thing on the rails, he looks very real. That's part of the game's fun - it's like a cartoon in the real world.
The graphics make all the objects seem very realistic, and the animation lends itself to that. And it looks like a lot of fun.
Also have to mention the music. Very cool. Sort of batman like cartoony music. I'm going to love this game.
acidwolvers @ Jul 20th 2008 10:16AM
Are you on crack? HD install is what will keep it from taking 2 weeks for something to load in game!
Also, in case you have been living under a rock, the "competitor" is copying what PS3 has had since day one.
Stop whining about HD space you can easily replace the HD with pretty much any size you want, and it won't void your warranty!
acidwolvers @ Jul 20th 2008 10:18AM
Damnit, the above comment is for stargateheaven...sorry
Kevin @ Jul 20th 2008 10:54AM
I don't think that's the music they will really use.
I like it but I don't hear any explosions or anything from the bombs.
Also I've never actually heard music from LBP.
farfisa @ Jul 20th 2008 2:38PM
You're right--that ain't the music. That music is from a stock music library (on a disc called "Fromage a la Funk").
ianroeder @ Jul 20th 2008 10:56AM
Kratos and Killzone sackboys for me pls
mike @ Jul 20th 2008 10:56AM
wow looks amazing and unique could very well turn out to be sonys big play against the 360, i dont think they will ever catch the wii but it could very well help them get 2nd place
Carbon60 @ Jul 20th 2008 11:27AM
Unique? Well, it's "just" super mario gameplay m8, nothing unique about it. But still - it will be great fun I guess.
I will buy it (more or less) for sure and it DO looks like it will be one of the best games for the PS3 - but I do not think it will make any big difference on the hardware situation. The 360 is still a much better gaming console, but hey - who cares? If we will get hours of fun out of LBP, it's a win/win in my opinion.
mike @ Jul 20th 2008 11:32AM
Oh yes i remember creating my own levels in super mario, and it making us of physics, coop, level sharing...
The 360 has nothing and i mean nothing to compare to thisand thats why it will never break out of that hardcore base
Playstation @ Jul 20th 2008 1:31PM
@carbon60
But how many good SMB -or shall I call it "platform games"- out there across all consoles (aside of SMG, R&C and a few others).
Beside, it doesn't play like SMB at all. Let me repeat it DOESN'T at all.
Jonathan @ Jul 20th 2008 11:17AM
im so glad that there are chat bubbles, now i can re-enact the Illiad. FOR SPARTA!!!
JerJerBinks @ Jul 20th 2008 12:13PM
Wrong movie, Troy was the most recent movie to take on that subject. The 300 had nothing to do with the Illiad.
Jonathan @ Jul 20th 2008 12:29PM
my 300 reference was a joke, troy butchered the illiad btw.
Moe-Ali @ Jul 22nd 2008 12:38AM
very nice but i was expecting a more 'action oriented' gameplay but that was good anyways
and they should make levels with killzone sackboy (i dunno just an enviorment like killzone) with a little gun ... but as an upgrade that doesnn't last long .. like only 20 bullets and since it has tto be an E rated game they should make the bullets something rather childish but also fin

In an interview with SCEE president David Reeves, he states, "So, for example, what we’re trying to do with LittleBigPlanet is almost iTunes meets eBay in the sense that once an individual or a developer has qualified by producing certain levels or certain add-ons, they will then be able in the future to exchange these and make money out of them. Eventually, it’s feasible that you might well see the first LittleBigPlanet millionaire!
Even if you charge less than one euro, it doesn’t take many downloads if you’ve got a really strong LittleBigPlanet level for people to be able to make money. It’s a great way for people to show others what they can do."

If this is true, I am very much considering NOT buying this game on the first day and waiting to see how charged user-made content will work out. This is very disconcerting.
Brett from Atlanta @ Jul 20th 2008 2:17PM
I don't think you should write off this feature just yet. There will be people who will like spend hours, if not days creating a unique level, which could have more complexity than some of the level put into the games by the devs. Why should we not reward someone for their hard work? I do agree partly with you though. I think that sony should set a price cap for people that choose to charge for their levels. I think that even a dollar would be too much to ask. If they set a fifty cent price cap, or maybe something lower than that, then I would gladly grab a few of these levels and support the people who created them.
Hammer @ Jul 20th 2008 2:40PM
It is quite a shock, but there will still be plenty of free content streaming daily. This is just an incentive for those people that spend days on a single level to keep going when they may otherwise consider giving up. I think I would be willing to pay a dollar or two for a great level I knew I could never replicate myself.
DukeofNewYork @ Jul 20th 2008 3:38PM
Does anyone know the name of the music playing in the background?
farfisa @ Jul 20th 2008 4:38PM
It's stock music, so no way to tell who else might've used it.
It's called "The Big Heat" and the composer is Dennis Farnon.

My deep dark hope is that this might be that game I use to get my wife to try video games (beyond Karaoke Revolution).
Nozz @ Jul 20th 2008 3:52PM
Brilliant!! im sure i heard that all the levels that are supplied on the disc will be editabe as well!!
MM is defo onto a winner here...
P.S. on the payment subject, THB i would only pay for content that comes from a official source, i dont think user created content should have a pay option but they should be allowed to upload it to MM to be judged and if the content is any good it should be included in official expansions. Theres way too many scammers out there for a payment system to work effectively
orange-taiko @ Jul 20th 2008 5:43PM
According to glorious Shazam on my iPhone the music is "Taco Brazil" by the New Dance Orchestra. And invest in a 320 gb HDD, pronto. It's easy as pie to backup and switch HDDs, just make sure you use the exact right screwdriver or you'll strip the dang screws.
biggrapp @ Jul 20th 2008 5:37PM
pretty hot! why am I seeing Sack Boy t-shirts and other merchandise in my head? I got a feelin' LBP is gonna be HUGE in the merchandising arena.
david @ Jul 20th 2008 10:17PM
x @Carbon60
You're right - the 360 is a much better gaming console - it is more reliable and Microsoft has tons of first party exclusives unlike the PS3. Sony just nickle and dimes us to death with things like making us buy a $100 attachment just ffor wifi or charging us for their online service....wait I may have my consoles mixed up...I take it back...you're a moron
justsomeKAI @ Jul 21st 2008 4:06AM
No amount of words can describe how cute this is...
I cant wait for the game. n_____n
RPMd70 @ Jul 21st 2008 4:34AM

uber sweet.
pABSO @ Jul 21st 2008 10:59AM
Awesome! Don't know which I enjoyed more the gameplay or the music.
